Some basic tips for Gambit (Mainly for solo-queuing)

Here are some rules that EVERYONE needs to know if they want to get into a Gambit match and NOT have the rest of your team throw their gaming platform thingy out the nearest window. Rule 1: (the most important one) I do not care, how good, how amazing, how spectacular, how confident, how incredibly breathtaking you think you are at Gambit. When you hear the Drifter scream "Bank and you'll summon a Primeval." or one of the other 50 phrases he says, that means... STOP: I do NOT care what the heck your doing, the second the Drifter says you can summon a primeval, that means you run as fast as you can to the bank, and drop in your motes, I don't care if you are one hit away from killing that random yellow-bar servitor, I don't care if you have your super charged and there is a big group of enemies just BEGGING to be killed, you STOP and you bank your f***ing motes. You bank your motes, you summon your Primeval, you win (usually) Rule 2: Stop always going for a large blocker! there are so many times when sending over 4 small blockers can be WAY more effective then sending over one large blocker that gets melted in 4 seconds if the other team is smart enough to focus their fire on it. Especially because the small blockers can push your enemies off ledges, getting rid of any motes they had. Sure a large blocker could also kill some people, (not really) but nine times out of ten, a few small blockers can be way more effective than one large blocker. Rule 3: STOP INVADING RANDOMLY! I don't care if you think it's your turn to invade in Gambit, stop just randomly invading when you have nothing, only to die, lose all 15 of your motes (another mistake; invading with motes) and then scream in the mic how the other team is hacking. ONLY invade when you have a: Your Super OR b: Power ammo Now it's not like if you don't have these when you invade you're automatically not going to get any kills, but it would most certainly help to have them when you invade. Rule 4: Kill the wizards first! This one not many people may know about, but if you kill the wizards that spawn near the primeval when it spawns in you will be able to deal more damage to the Primeval, so it is always a good idea to quickly clear out those wizards before engaging the primeval. Rule 5: Do not invade the moment the enemy gets their primeval. Trust me, this does absolutely nothing, save that invasion portal for when they have started to deal a bit of damage to their primeval to reset their progress (and remember rule 3 before invading) if you invade right as they spawn their primeval, sure you may kill them and set them back a tiny bit, but you would be doing so much more if you just wait until their primeval has taken a bit of damage before invading. Rule 6: If you have zero motes, and there is an invader, well congratulations buddy, chum, pal, friend, amigo, (insert other friendly words here) you have just earned the title of invader finder/killer. If you have zero motes, stop cowering in a corner, and go hunt down the invader, kill him before he can kill you. Besides, it's not like hiding will actually do anything as the invader can see where you are through walls. Rule 7: Always try to focus down blockers. Oh hey! would you look at that! There's a big ol' taken knight standing right beside your bank and he's really upset so he's not gonna let you bank your motes, so what's the logical thing to do? Kill him! or her, I don't know, do Taken have genders? Anyway, legit though, focus down the blockers, because guess what, all those motes your collecting really don't mean anything if there's still a blocker in your path, preventing you from banking any motes. Anyway, this has gone on long enough, those are some (yea, there's more) of the basic rules you should know before heading into your next gambit match. And BTW don't think I'm telling you that you HAVE to follow these rules to the word and only focus on winning and not on having fun. NO that is not what I am saying, I am just trying to help you with some tips on how to be better at Gambit, and trust me, the better you are at something, the more fun it is (usually). By all means, have fun! It's a video game, after all, it's supposed to be played for fun! However, I can guarantee you that your team will be very thankful if you know these basic rules. Now, eyes up guardian, go have some fun. :) EDIT: To all the people who think this was just copied and pasted. (Particularly one individual, who's name I shall not say) this was NOT copied from some random website or something. Do I claim that these pieces of advice are mine and mine only? NO these are pieces of advice that I found from videos, playing the game, and watching others play the game. If there is some trick or website where you verify if this is copied then by all means do so. But I can assure you that this was not copied and pasted from reddit, or from another post on the forum, or whatever other website you may think. I wrote this. Am I claiming that I invented these rules? NO I am NOT I know I did not make these rules. I am not taking ownership of them.

  • Good stuff. I only take cover when an invader is present if I'm holding motes, usually because there was a blocker or two on the vault that everyone ignored. One more..... Rule 8: If you're facing hive or vex, shoot the shriekers and hydras first, same goes for cabal, take out the machine turrets first. It helps the whole team. Especially when the hydras can jump around at will and those torch hammer shots are lethal.

  • Good stuff. I would also add: Don't instantly pop your super as soon as the primeval spawns. Wait until after the other team invades at least once. The last thing you want is to have all that damage you did with your super negated by a kill or 2, and then you're left with no super for the rest of the fight.

    • Rule one: if the enemy team wins the first round don't try and win the second so you can get your gambit games done faster for breakneck.

      • Yeah I always bank 5-9 motes per "bank run." Maybe 10 if it happens right off the bat.

Too much blah. Here are my 10 golden rules for Gambit: #1 - Go for small blockers and spam them. They protect each other with their shields and are quite hard to kill when coming in numbers. A good player kills a medium or big blocker in three seconds with the Ikelos shotgun. #2 - Always kill blockers ASAP. Don't pass the bank and let a single mate deal with them all by himself. #3 - If you pass the bank, bank your motes no matter how few ore many they are. It is more important to get an invasion portal and invade than always have a blocker to send. You get a portal at 25 and 50 motes banked, and every 15 seconds once the other team has a Primeval. #4 - You compete with the other team, not with your mates. Don't snatch motes from their feet when they just need one more for a blocker while you are (almost) empty. I have seen too many selfish retards doing this. The result will be that neither of you has a blocker to send and you are infact helping the other team. You can see the mote count above your mates' heads. #5 - Kill the wizards at the Primeval first as that gives you a damage buff. #6 - Wait for the inevitable invader before starting to damage the boss. #7 - If you are a Titan, go as Sunbreaker and shoulder charge the boss (-> melting point). You can use your hammers to kill the wizards and other adds at the boss. Use a burst super otherwise (blade barrage, arc beam or nova bomb) and use them after melting point. That will take the boss down from 100 to zero health in a few seconds. #8 - Take your time to kill adds before attacking the boss (particulary the pesky snipers). #9 - If you want to invade while the other team is still collecting motes, wait until there is a sufficiently big gray area at their mote progress bar. That gray part indicates how many motes they have collected but not yet banked. Spamming blockers before invasion is vital as it hinders the other team to bank their motes while you are hunting them. #10 - If you want to invade when the enemy primeval is up, wait until it has lost health, as it can only get healed by guardian deaths when it is damaged.

        • Got to where you said “STOP WHATEVER YOU ARE DOING AND BANK FOR PRIMEVAL” and instantly stopped reading. First off, not everyone goes for wins. Second off, people are going for Bounties and such. And Third, if you want people to follow your opinionated rules then make your own Fireteam. Not every gives a crap about the shitty game mode.

            • Wow, holy shit dude. To much reading for a game mode that isn't that complicated and was put into the game in a beta version. Here is really what you need to know. Right meow, don't play gambit. Gambit is soooooooooo glitchy and full of so many purposely implemented bull shit game mechanics you do not want to waste time on it. It's unfair, it's unbalanced, it will piss you off most of the time. The few little loot rewards you can get from it are incredibly annoying to get and are purely cosmetic. So yeah cheers, have fun getting annoyed and wasting you time. Several months from now after Bungies gathered enough data from you they will fix gambit and all their CEO's will get a million dollar bonus. Lol.

            • If a player on your team invades and wipes the other team, let them do it again! Leave the Heavy Ammo in the middle to the person invading. So many times I've wiped the enemy team and some idiot on my team steals the Heavy Ammo, invades, and gets zero kills. If you let me have all the Heavy Ammo, I'll kill the enemy team and protect you from invaders with my Queenbreaker.

            • With regard to #1, even my wife - not a player, but she’ll watch from time to time - will start yelling at J. Random Gotta Get That Last Mote when the drifter says his thing. She’s taken to calling the randos by their mote count, and while I’m playing I’ll hear, stuff like “Twelve, get your lumpy Titan ass to the bank NOW. “ and “Jesus you need to step up your game, Nine.” Although now that I lucked into the Dredgen title, I’m so chill. I’m like, “Yeah, we only need 3 and you’re holding 13, but...hey, you do you. Charge that Scorn captain with a half-empty sidearm. It’s cool.”

              • Not banking the motes ticks me off the most. Running by the blockers and not taking them down, is second. I'll add one that doesn't seem like much, but.... taking out those sniping little ads, while waiting for your slayer stack, is very helpful.
