Re: Everyone who hates the Sleeper Simulant in Gambit

I feel your pain, even as someone who owns (but seldom equips) a Sleeper Simulant. I don’t like hearing “Invader on the fi-“ and immediately being blasted by the most annoying weapon in Gambit. Even so, nerfing the Sleeper is a bad move. The real issue in Gambit is the Invader’s “wall hacks”. If they actually had to search and play the peek game without the ability to always see where we are or when we are counter-peeking, suddenly things get much more even. Now, seeing as Invaders aren’t safe from being Sleeper’d by about 4 enemies at the same time, I’d say granting them an extra-enhanced motion tracker and a buff to their overshield is only fair. Sleeper is only a symptom. The Invasion mechanic is in need of tweaks. Edit-1: Seems Sleeper Simulant is getting a slight nerf to Aim Assist and Heavy Dispenser ammo. I doubt either of these will make any real difference in Gambit, and players will still be pissed, but let’s wait and see. A bunch of great responses, and I thank everyone for at least remaining civil to each other, regardless of how you feel about the Sleeper, Invasions, or Gambit as a whole. Edit-2: I think invading is an excellent idea, just (as usual) not implemented in the most thought out way. Because weapon choice is always going to go through a meta, and to be honest Sleeper Simulant isn’t the only weapon that can turn invasions into total crapshoots, I had the idea that Bungie could treat Gambit invasions like the games Evolve or Left 4 Dead; *Give a player control of a “Special” Taken miniboss.* Invaders would spawn in as invading red Taken Knights with a boost to speed and melee strength, and could chase down Guardians and hunt their motes. Thoughts? Keep the discussion going!

  • No. The problem is that you have PVE players who lack basic PVP skills (use of cover, managing sightlines) and Sleeper is a powerful tool for exposing that lack...and punishing it. The problem is that you also have PVE players who stubbornly refuse to acknowledge that PVP is an instrumental part of this game....and you need to prioritize it when it happens....and the possibility of Invasion need to always be in the back of your mind. I play mainly solo queue. I lost a match last night where one of my "team mates" died with SIXTY-ONE motes on him over the course of the match. That is absolute BACKBREAKING. There is no getting out of the hole you put your team into when you die with that many motes on you. I died with 15 on me at one point in that match because I got caught with 15 on me. I was forced to go to platform and try to sweep it clear of THREE blockers (which I did)....but then the other team dropped an fourth one on us (an Ogre)...and then Invaded. I made the percentage play and ran for cover....and then tries to stay in motion in hopes I could lead the Invader on a chase and stay alive. But he naturally came for me, and eventually ran me down. That wasn't what pissed me off. What pissed me off was the fact that after I respawned THAT SAME -blam!-ING OGRE WAS SITTING ON THAT PLATFORM. While I was running for my LIFE trying to keep from losing 15 motes...NO ONE MANAGED TO BOTHER THEMSELVES TRYING TO CLEAR THE PLATFORM. That kind of absolutely MORONIC lack of game sense and lack of understanding how this game works is why Sleeper and "wall hacks" seem to be an insurmountable problem. If you have no motes on you....WTF does it matter if you die in an invasion during that part of the game? What GOOD are you, if you stay alive....but leave the team in a position where they can't bank motes. The game mode is fine. The "problem" is that this game FORCES you to think on your feet...multi-task...and to be adaptable. ...and those capacities are simply beyond some people.
