No.
The problem is that you have PVE players who lack basic PVP skills (use of cover, managing sightlines) and Sleeper is a powerful tool for exposing that lack...and punishing it.
The problem is that you also have PVE players who stubbornly refuse to acknowledge that PVP is an instrumental part of this game....and you need to prioritize it when it happens....and the possibility of Invasion need to always be in the back of your mind.
I play mainly solo queue. I lost a match last night where one of my "team mates" died with SIXTY-ONE motes on him over the course of the match. That is absolute BACKBREAKING. There is no getting out of the hole you put your team into when you die with that many motes on you.
I died with 15 on me at one point in that match because I got caught with 15 on me. I was forced to go to platform and try to sweep it clear of THREE blockers (which I did)....but then the other team dropped an fourth one on us (an Ogre)...and then Invaded.
I made the percentage play and ran for cover....and then tries to stay in motion in hopes I could lead the Invader on a chase and stay alive. But he naturally came for me, and eventually ran me down.
That wasn't what pissed me off.
What pissed me off was the fact that after I respawned THAT SAME -blam!-ING OGRE WAS SITTING ON THAT PLATFORM. While I was running for my LIFE trying to keep from losing 15 motes...NO ONE MANAGED TO BOTHER THEMSELVES TRYING TO CLEAR THE PLATFORM.
That kind of absolutely MORONIC lack of game sense and lack of understanding how this game works is why Sleeper and "wall hacks" seem to be an insurmountable problem.
If you have no motes on you....WTF does it matter if you die in an invasion during that part of the game? What GOOD are you, if you stay alive....but leave the team in a position where they can't bank motes.
The game mode is fine. The "problem" is that this game FORCES you to think on your feet...multi-task...and to be adaptable.
...and those capacities are simply beyond some people.

Edited by Ramirenzo: 10/5/2018 7:50:21 PMOh please, stop with your thinly veiled "git gud" BS. The problem is that the sleeper has unlimited range and good tracking, in a game mode with open maps where your enemy can see you but you can't see them. How does your incredible PvP prowess allow you to manage sight lines and cover against a target who's location you don't know until you're dead?

Are you serious go on YouTube and look up gambit and sleeper all those kills were from someone who was completely behind cover. Most people. Aren't standing still

Or that it has insane bullet magnetism?

Nope. Don’t need it to shoot scarecrows.

Lack of awareness is certainly an issue, I don’t deny that. Also, don’t forget the Gambit bounties that specifically require you to bank for a large blocker (the only time I purposely go for 15 motes, otherwise I try to stop at 10). Gambit is definitely harsher on those of us who can’t always play with clanmates. Even with all that said, my post was specifically regarding players who feel the Sleeper Simulant is killing the “fairness” of Gambit, and how my view is that the weapon doesn’t need nerfing (a moot point now seeing as its aim assist and ammo from the Heavy station are both being nerfed). As for...less than goal-oriented random teammates, such is the risk of life as a solo-queue Guardian. The option to get on mic and actually attempt to help your team is always there, but I’ll admit that even I don’t like using my mic when there’s already a toxic “teammate” calling us idiots for taking HIS motes, or grabbing the heavy ammo spawn HE was going to get. Instead, “hey guys, I’m at 12, let me get the next 3 motes” or “hey, I’m a decent invader, let me get the heavy spawn”. Big difference, and even without a “please”, it’s infinitely preferable to being a toxic jerk. I’ve gotten off topic. **TL;DR** Bad teammates is an inherent risk of being a solo queue player, but that is another (relevant and rampant) problem with Gambit. I still think Invasion mechanics need tweaking, but thanks for the input.

I REALLY hate seeing 2 people carrying 15 motes and still killing things...why? I hate seeing people ONLY banking when they have 15 motes...WHY? Please, if you're playing Gambo, just take 2 seconds and THINK what's BEST for the TEAM. Also, I use SS, but I don't use it when invading. I use it as a defensive tool when being invaded. I don't really mind the nerf, but I feel we're slowly creeping back to the things we hate from D2 vanilla.
I REALLY hate seeing 2 people carrying 15 motes and still killing things...why?
Only two reasons in solo queue. They're either playing stupidly....or they're playing selfishly.
I hate seeing people ONLY banking when they have 15 motes...WHY?
Foolish. They think they're dropping a big hurt on the other team...and don't realize just how quickly someone with the EP shotgun can kill an Ogre blocker. Especially if they have the game sense enough to be waiting there on the platform for it when it arrives.
but I feel we're slowly creeping back to the things we hate from D2 vanilla.
Because Bungie still needs to realize that the kind of complaining they are accommodating won't go away. If they want to see a wider variety of heavy weapons used in Gambit then they need to BUFF rockets and other heavy weapons. I don't think we'll wind up where we did for vanilla D2 though. Josh Hamrick isn't managing the sandbox with the clear PVP oriented agenda that Jon Weisznewski did....and I think Bungie got their hand burned enough to realize that no one is interested in playing a reskinned Halo at this point. Also Hamrick is being very gentle....and very surgical in his changes right now. As well as showing a propensity to buff things rather than hammering down anything that stuck out like Weisznewski did for three years.

Thanks for your input on the last point about the nerf. You, my friend, are a person of class!

You should know by now what no matter what the mode is people don't like playing the objective. They just want to kill stuff. What we see now with Gambit is both PVP and PVE sides of that.
-
Yep. ...and the misfortune (for me) in a new game mode that has lit my competitive fire. So losing really gets under my skin. Especially the colossally STUPID ways in which people lose at this game at times.
