Hello everybody,
Why was Zavala even in the story to begin with? From what little we know about him he has no connection with Ana Bray or Rasputin, and he doesn't want to use the power of the warmind for personal reasons that he never clarifies. Plus I though Hunters fell under Cayde jurisdiction.
It would have been way better and make so much more sense if Cayde was involved in this, here is a scenerio:
After the events of Twilights Gap Cayde becomes the new Hunter Vanguard leader and this puts him in distraught since now he can't go out into the wilds enjoy the freedom and learn about his past. So he gets in contact with Ana and makes a deal with her, he knows she wants to investigate her past which may have a connection with the warmind so he fakes her records saying she's dead and she is free to find the Warmind which my help Cayde learn who he was before becoming an Exo.
I'm an amateur at storytelling yet I think what I put here is beyond better than in game, I may be getting full of myself over something I made up but what do you all think?
Edit: I am extremely surprised by how popular this became, guess people really don't like Bungie's continued poor performance for in game story.

I like how he’s like: “Traveler BAD! Traveler DAANGEROUS!!” But then, in the D1 S.A.B.E.R strike, he specifically said: “if we are to ever reach a second golden, it will be with Rasputin at our side.” Bungie??

So for those of you who have seen Lance Reddick's interview on Eric Andre, i would have very much enjoyed it if Zavala entered in a similar fashion.
warp speed dont rainbow read me n****
1 ReplyHe read the script and just turned up on Mars, desperate to try and help bring coherence to the narrative . Ana and Lord Guardian Player 1 were as surprised as anyone.
-
Fuq that, I’m more curious is Zavala voicing Venom in the new Venom movie...? “We can do whatever we want” line sounds so like Zavala...!

Edited by STARWoLF00: 5/16/2018 4:21:56 AMI believe Zavala started freaking out with the whole siva thing. He was red to use Rasputin before, but was like nah fvckdat. Ana bray was broadcasting on official vanguard channels for an extended amount of time. That’s how he knew she was there. Also I swear I heard background npc talk of warsats falling on mars. Also, Ana isn’t in the vanguard or under its control. She -blam!-ed off a long time ago, possibly before cayde took the position of hunter vanguard. As for why he appeared behind the door, he simply tranmatted there. We had to help Anna clear the area and activate a lot of shit. He simply dropped in after we smoked everybody and said hold tf up this bro may not be our friend and this shit is too dangerous. They could have presented it better imo. A bit choppy

2 RepliesI really loved how his stance on Rasputin completely flips from D1 to D2. In one of the strikes in D1, Zavala says, “if we are to enter a new golden age, it will be led by Rasputin.” But now he -blam!-ing hates the thing. Great storytelling really.

2 RepliesEdited by Codykins: 5/15/2018 1:33:09 AMMy co-worker Miki legit thought Zavala was the real Rasputin when the door opened and he walked out of the vault, no joke. I busted up laughing when she said that.

2 RepliesI dont understand how they forgot that Ana Bray was thought to be dead. How can they not acknowledge that?
-
3 RepliesAbsolutely, he just literally pops up out of nowhere behind a door. At first I thought it was Rasputin trying a hologram but no, he was just there..... for some reason.
-
Zavala was only in the DLC story because the voice actor needed the money and Bungo got him on the cheap...
-
Zavala did not belong there. He was like the oppressive boss who looms, waiting for you to make a mistake. It made me hate him. That said, it is better that cayde gets the taken king-style big dlc, now that the activi$ion contract is satisfied.
-
Ana: Ok Guardian so behind this door is Rasput- Zavala: hey guys scarce here Ana: WTF!?!

3 RepliesI feel like in an effort to give us lore in game, they've taken amazing characters from the lore( ana, xol, nokris, etc) and just given us a shell of them. And how about that dialogue, Are we playing the scifi my little pony? "You did it! No, ana, we all did, we're a team now. " * rasputin becomes self aware and basically threatens all of humanity* "We've got this. "
-
1 ReplyHaven’t we mostly heard about Rasputin’s connection with the Vanguard through Zavala up until now? I remember there being some lines about it in D1. So I don’t think they just threw him into the story out of nowhere.
-
3 RepliesCayde is indeed the Hunter vanguard. But given his personality, I don't see him and Ana being in conflict over her doing things her own way. It would be the pot calling the kettle black. So if they wanted a conflict, an alternative perspective, Zavala made the most sense.

8 RepliesWe learn everything we need to know from context. Follow me here, We aren't the only tool in Zavala's toolbox. He's got his own past and agenda when it comes to the Warmind. Ana Bray was, what, exiled? Kicked out of the Vanguard? Whatever happened, she had to walk around like a sucker to find the facility. Ana got in trouble, she issued a general distress signal, we heard it and responded and landed where she said to land and started hoofing it to the facility like she did. Zavala (obviously must have) heard the distress signal too, it was on the Vanguard channel and he has no problems communicating with us from across the solar system in real time. He beat us to the facility. The only way he could have done that was to transmat to a Vanguard beacon already on-site. Which means he's got transmat beacons we don't know about, and had already either gone to Mars himself to set it, or sent other teams earlier. What that means: Zavala's got secrets we don't know about.

2 RepliesBoo Zavala! Resurrect Saint 14!
-
6 RepliesZavala in destiny one Fallen Shank strike: “if we are ever to reach a new Golden age it will be with Rasputin’s at our side” Zavala in Warmind: “I will never trust a warmind” GG

I think that he was the only voice actor willing to come back for a quick paycheck.. in this dying franchise. Did you notice that Ana's voice is extremely similiar to Efrideet of D1? Recycle everything is Bungie's model..
-
Bungie seems really confused on what role their characters play. It's also getting a bit annoying that you(the main character) are treated like a 5-year old new guardian every DLC/story.
-
8 Replies"--BOOOOOOOOORING! You don't wanna hear about that, Vault Hunter! You wanna hear about LOOT! AND PECS! AND EXPLOSIONS! I'm Torgue, and I am here to ask you one question, and one question only: EXPLOSIONS?!"
-
I like how he was already chilling inside the Warmind. We go through all that crap and finally are able to open the doors to Rasputin then TA DA Zavala is there like “HEY! WATCHA DOIN’!!”.....
-
2 RepliesI think it serves to show a new side of Zavala. He distrusts Ana and blamed her for not being there when Ghaul attacked. He also sees Rasputin as a 'mindless' weapon to be used, despite it being a very advanced AI. Basically it showed some of Zavala's flaws, and he's still capable of being hotheaded. He also seems angry at how the Red Legion almost succeeded. When you pick up patrols on Mars, he sounds vengeful a lot of times. He's pissed. At first I also wondered what's going on, but now I think of Zavala's appearance like that. Ana though... puke. So first of all, the whole -blam!-ing facility came out of the Ice and looks perfectly fine? She never explained the bond to Rasputin and how it was possible. She also has a sassy/wannabe-cool attitude which I dislike. "We got this!" 😆 Anyway, Warmind showed us more of Zavala's character and I like it. He isn't a shiny, perfectly balanced Vanguard commander and it's good like this. I would still like to see an angry Ikora though. She seems to be the most steadfast Vanguard. Fitting for a Warlock, too, but everyone has a darker side.

Edited by Jake of Trades: 5/15/2018 1:26:17 PMZavala doesn’t trust Rasputin. Rasputin lets Zavala go through the locked doors.
-
What's funny is remember that skank strike in D1 and your running the ball to get past the electric room. Zavala says we need Rasputin power to beat our foes I'm like wtf in this DLC.!.!.!

1 ReplyMy character was out of place the entire time they played cut scenes. My hunter looked like an idiot just shaking it’s head every time the testicular challenged voice of our ghost said something like it’s a little dog. Our voices need to return and our ghost needs to die so we can get one with a mute switch or a new voice.
