One Thing You Can't Say Is Bad In Destiny 2

The beta has plenty of threads going up at the moment. Most of them are people who accidentally took a shower in salt water instead of regular water this morning, but there is definitely plenty of feedback out there. Regardless of the beta's issues (edit: I do think that the beta does have a few issues), are we all able to agree that the Homecoming mission is by far a step in the right direction for story missions? There's actual cinematics, you can see NPCs fighting in-game, and you can even revive Commander Zavala if he dies. And Ghaul seems like a pretty menacing villain already when compared to the lack of a "real" villain in Destiny 1's vanilla story. Edit: Not saying Ghaul is like an amazing villain, just saying when compared to D1 he's better. Even if Destiny 2's story isn't anything groundbreaking, it already looks better then Destiny 1's story, in my opinion. Edit: Not trying to say that it's the best mission in any game ever or something, just saying it's much better than Destiny 1. Edit 2: A lot of people are getting the message that I think negativity is just salt because of my "took a shower in salt water" comment above. This isn't the case at all. I'm all for negativity if it helps the game. The salt water comment was just a sarcastic joke about the people saying "F U Bungie, the beta is trash." That has no useful feedback whatsoever. The same goes for positive feedback. Saying "Fantastic beta Bungie, good job!" is nice and all, but it doesn't explain why the beta was good, thus it doesn't really have any feedback. Multiple people now have misunderstood my original point, so I just wanted to clarify this. I don't think negativity is just salt, it was just a joke is all.

    • It's on par with most bottom of the barrel shooters these days (which's an improvement over the first one), but it's irrelevant because the writing's still god awful. "A Vex milk waterfall!"

      • Homecoming was pretty badass. Just very short but hopefully it's just a prolog mission and the rest take some time.

      • what i love about the beta is that its not a demo. its a real beta and a great taste of whats to come. we haven't seen anything yet. look at Destiny 1 there were 22 story missions we got to see 1.... thats <5% of what we are going to experience come launch day. how can anyone make judgement and cancel their preorders based on seeing less than 5% of a game ?? and thats not including PVP or Raids. and to make matters worse its on a build of the games that is months old. personally im trying hard to be objective and not fanboy the heck outta D2 but im not cancelling and i will be putting in for time off work to play come launch day. better yet to combat all the salt can we get a poll going to count those who will be keeping their pre-orders ????

        • Compared to the Vanilla Triple Big Minotaurs at the end yes he is more of a better villain. But Oryx was a much more entertaining boss in my opinion. I did not expect a Gigantic Hive God to be the big bad of TTK. Was very fun even if he didn't threaten the city much. I did feel they missed an opportunity with having one of Oryx's Lieutenants or himself invade the city and start turning humans into Taken. That would have made his presence all the more scary. Gaul seems like a glorified Bane/Primus but we will see what he is capable of in a few weeks.
Regardless of the beta's issues, are we all able to agree that the Homecoming mission is by far a step in the right direction for story missions?
Well...no because even while there's a functional story with plot and characters (rather than just endless setting, which is how you can describe both Halo Reach and Destiny 1's campaign experience) it highlights just how little humanity means to the Destiny universe for a story about losing our only home in the universe to be fixated on the traveler's plight (there's implication there but the indirect consequences of the Cabal's attack pale in comparison to the direct ones). Just about the only reaction (besides jocular one-liners) characters exhibit is unwavering faith. Under other circumstances that might be viewed as a positive trait but here it looks like the human species has been duped by a false god. If it weren't for how the Cabal villain was written, you could easily reinterpret the first campaign mission as a liberation action rather than an invasion. Basically, while there's positive steps taken with the technical aspects of Destiny's writing the specific narrative undermines large parts of the universe and player's role in it. We've lost an intriguing premise in favor of a stock action story. Depending on what you're looking for, this could lead to some good fun but I don't think (in providing critical review) that Destiny 2 can really be lauded for it (because it's possible to incorporate a fun story to a thoughtful premise, with both supporting eachother to create a greater experience.) Anyway, that's my take on it. Maybe Destiny 2's campaign moves in unexpected ways but for the moment I'm not optimistic about it.
There's actual cinematics, you can see NPCs fighting, and you can even revive Commander Zavala if he dies.
None of the NPCs look at you though, and invincible enemies that I can't shoot because I have to wait for Cayde to whip his pistol through the thick cloud of arrogance is annoying. Also, Zavala's shield is useless if you stand two feet away from him. They should have made it a game mechanic to have to run back to him/pop your own bubble.
And Ghaul seems like a pretty menacing villain already when compared to the lack of a "real" villain in Destiny 1's vanilla story.
Maybe, but I haven't even stepped into the game and I already think "okay, who's next?"
His story is of a guy who overthrew the previous emporer and trapped our light. So what? He needs to do something like Skolas did that has a higher impact on the future for me to care - because we already know we are going to beat him.
Even if Destiny 2's story isn't anything groundbreaking, it already looks better then Destiny 1's story, in my opinion.
Destiny 1's narrative was nonexistant, but its story was quite good - if a bit overextended. It planted the seeds of every potential story and created enough interest in my heart that I spent the majority of my free time from January 2013 to November 2016 analyzing every scrap of information I could find. I was enticed by the parallels the characters had to mythology, how the elements they spoke of were done so often yet where the vagueness of the Darkness and Light and Traveler and Osiris pointed to seemed oh so much sweeter than some fantasy-crafted "force" of star wars or the similar. Destiny 2 is now more concise in favor of a better narrative, but at what cost?

"Do Necromancer minions stay alive after the necromancer dies?" Someone else thought that up and has me confused too Also: who in the right mind made the final cut scene make it look like we are scared little bitches just staying on the ground like that? • I love the BETA so far, it's so smooth and flows so well. When a BETA comes out, we need to communicate the problems and the good as well. I am not complaining at all, been a fan since day one and always will be. I am solely here, to help benefit the game and the community. So I'm sure there are a few things we can agree on that need to be changed. Here are a few my clan and I came up with: When reviving or picking up ammo, the loading bar should continue to load while getting shot, it should not reset on impact. 1 super per match is basically what they are going for but it should be possible to get 2 at least. (If you go like 20-0 then maybe, just maybe you'll get 2 supers off in a match. They need to make it a little faster. Weapons not having different rolls is kind of off. I got three Better Devils and dismantled them right away because there is no need to have the same gun at all anymore. The sticky bombs used to be one hit kills, now it takes half their health. Two melees used to be the average amount of melees to kill someone, now it's 3 and sometimes 4...(the hunter has killed me with one melee multiple times). I think they should put back the one hit kill for certain things like a snipe to the head or a charged melee or a sticky bomb. Please feel free to talk about more good and bad and I'll edit and put your name next to what you said. More below: "The red on the radar in crucible is too thin for some people." -Anon "Blast Radius on the rocket launchers and grenade launchers are non-existent" -Anon "Bigger fire team for crucible, they need to have a 6v6 game mode, everybody that has a clan has to split up every time and it sucks" -Anon "The team shotting kinda sucks because I can stand next to my teammate and automatically his bullets are stronger..." -Anon "The K/D system is adding assists to your kills, that's BS...it should only be kills and deaths and then keep assists separate" -Anon Thank you, Fellow Guardian

                  • Here was my question for the Beta..... "Ok i loved d1... does this taste of the game give me enough to want to buy it"... Answer....Yes... That is the extent of my thinking for the beta. my opinion.. no one elses.. and not trying to cram it down anyones pie hole,.. but for me... it's just a way to test a build to see if it's enough for me to want to buy... and that answer for myself is a yes.

                  • don't think it was great level, it was typical destiny 1, narrow corridor to travel shooting enemies then a stand still and defeat 3 waves before progressing, it just all felt same old same old. it was good to see the NPC's doing stuff but they didn't interact with me it was like they were just part of the environment. To me they felt like they were just moving card board cut outs on a fair ground ride and only put in there as Bungies way of saying look we are listening this is what people wanted isn't it great. Zavalla just stood behind cover doing nothing until he had to use a bubble it was actually more immersion breaking than him not being there. I was really excited for Destiny 2 but this beta just screams to me of destiny 1 beta and the let down the final game was after release. They say there is loads more story but if it just more missions that are basically the same except for window dressing well that doesn't count in my eyes, narrow corridor 3 waves progress to boss. I was hoping because Destiny 2 is leaving Destiny 1 behind with retcons to lore and our items then they would be making some drastic changes and making the game how they originally intended after the disappointment of rushing D1 but it seems this is there vision and it is not something I want to spend a lot of money on to play anymore. I will be waiting for the inevitable deals on Destiny 2 around xmas and if the reviews are decent by then I will look to pick it up, but I am sad it isn't worth a pre order in my eyes anymore.

                  • No one can legitimately argue that it wasn't a great level. I'm just curious how much of the actual game will actually be like that. There seems to be 2 camps. "I saw a half second of new footage, this game will be better than anything ever" and "I watched everything but noticed that there is a lag when hitting the soccer ball, so this game is shit" Let's just stick with the, sit and wait approach.

But i will agree, aside from doing the entire thing with minimal ammo and two extremely underwhelming primaries, the mission itself was really good. It looked great and the story was cool. As far as gameplay tho... nope cant say that was enjoyable

                      • I would say they have also made good headway with the story aspect so far albeit a few hiccups with a few gameplay mechanics for example, I feel the guns lack the impact the first games weapons did alongside the effectiveness of each weapon category. Though the addition of additional abilities add a bit more flavor to each character class. Glad to see someone taking a reasonable view of the beta rather than just say it's terrible

Compared to Destiny 1 it surely is an improvement but is it perfect ? I don't think so , while watching the cutscenes i found so many logic issues. Like how silly the guardian leadership is. Last City has been attacked several times yet they realise that their city is attacked when the enemy parked in front of their door. It is extremely stupid and an insult to our intelligence. Seeing Raze Lighted - Ace of Spades is also an insult on our face when we lost our armours - weapons. Your guardian still can't interact with anyone. All we do is go defend X amount of waves etc.. There is no sense of urgency within the story which is also shame imo.

There are to many whiny cry babies out there I think the destiny community hates destiny it's weird, it's like they enjoy hating on the game they play. If your unhappy with destiny 2 then get outta here if your not gonna give constructive criticism. Its funny how some people canceled their preorders cause this is a month old build of the game and at launch things will be much different the reasons for cancelling it may not even be a problem at launch anymore. But these forms disgust me there are way to many haters and salt babies

                        • I liked the mission and the graphics were nice too. Visited the farm and I love graphically what I saw, nice detail, lots of foliage etc, so if the rest of EDZ is like it then I have found my new home. Much better than the strike planet. I found that very underwhelming and boring.
