There has been so much discussion on these forums about changing Trials of Osiris. Let's make it SBMM or let's make it a tiered competition or let's force those who have been flawless into their own category. All of these different things to make trials more "inclusive."
The question I have to everyone is why do you want the lighthouse so bad that you have to change the system to get there. If it's grimoire, then I think there is an argument there. If a completionist wants the grimoire and can't get it, I see that as a potential problem, but don't ask to change the system for trials, petition Bungie to remove the grimoire from the lighthouse. Put that grimoire somewhere else like trials participation and playing a certain amount of games. If it's the rewards, then no, absolutely not a good reason to change the system. A player can achieve the same exact rewards by getting to 5 or 7 wins, except the lighthouse has adept versions and ornaments. That's the only difference.
In that same way, trials is essentially a tiered system. Those that can get to five wins, you get a reward for that, a sweet piece of armor. For those who get to seven wins, you get a nice weapon. For those that can get all the way to flawless, well you get that adept gear that shows that you have completed the ultimate test in destiny PvP.
If it's just to see the lighthouse, well you've got to earn that too. It's an experience that only the best get to experience because they worked to be the best. If it's the stat that says you made it, well that's absolutely not a reason to change the system.
Ultimately this is the question. Why do you care about the lighthouse so much?

1 ReplyI want the grimior and the adept since they look better
-
I do not care either way.

I honestly can't bring myself to feel compelled in any way to spare any level of concern for a reward that people cheat others out of to obtain.

3 RepliesI am terrible at PVP, and know that the Lighthouse is something that, I will more than likely never see, and I'm ok with that. Here is why, being older than probably a majority of you, (and please don't take this as an insult, it is not meant to be) I remember a time before participation trophies, and "everyone gets to play". When I was growing up, you actually had to try out for a team, and you might not make it, and if you didn't, you worked harder until you did. If you did make the team, but weren't good enough to start, you worked harder until you were. And if you weren't the champs, guess what... no trophy..... which made you work harder.... This is how I view trials, no effort, no rewards, even the hated streamers / paid carriers are guess what? Really, Really good, extremely skilled players, so good in fact, that they can go flawless while literally hamstringing themselves, by dragging 1, or even sometimes 2 lesser skilled players along with them... Personally I enjoy watching some of them weekly, I am amazed at their skill level, their reflexes, and how, like many professional athletes, they make a very difficult thing look easy. Bungie will not change the format of trials, nor should they, they accept that there are streamers, as these streamers are basically free advertising for the game. Trials would be "more inclusive" if the player base was larger, which it would be, if more players developed the work harder mentality, rather than the hand It to me mentality. A larger player base would invariably mean more "average" teams at 5, 7, or even 8 wins. But if everyone just gives up after getting pub stomped the first time, it will never get better... just my 2 cents... Oh yeah, and cross platform, have PS4, and XB1 merged for Trials, that would create a way larger player pool, but for that, you would need dedicated servers, which is another rant entirely.

3 RepliesI hate the current setup and I have two solutions in mind. Either make it 9 wins before the card's third loss or remove the whole mode and never come back in Destiny 2
-
They should remove the boon that counts as two wins, drop it down from 9 wins to 7 wins to get flawless as 7 wins is what you need to get to the lighthouse and after you've gone flawless once on that character you can't go back in, that should stop most of the streamers carrying people to the lighthouse then resetting the card and starting again that way every one on the team will have to win 7 games.
-
One word: entitlement. People thinkin' just because they bought the game, they have a right to everything within said game without having to earn it.
-
So what you're saying is, I'm bad for not using the meta weapons? If you really think you're good for using the meta, then you're wrong. In fact, I regard players as ''good'' if they're not using the meta and not bum rushing with shotguns 24/7, as well as using the least popular subclass of their class. Do that, and you can say you're good at the game. Otherwise, don't even bother.

Just for weapons and kicks and giggles

Terrible PvP'er and too old to speed up my reactions or aiming time. I don't want the guns, the armour or the emblem. I'd just like to unlock the grimoire cards. I came to PS4 for RoI and the change from PS3 was very noticable, trials is very unpleasant to play for me, every team in round one is scarabed and ornamented, I've lost before I've fired a shot. Seems the hopeless like me are all gone from trials now. Kind of a shame for us really, while I happily accept my limitations and know I don't deserve flawless gear I did enjoy my runs for armour and weapons prior to RoI.

Because red bars and cheaters arent fair

4 RepliesEdited by BulletTooth Tony: 1/8/2017 2:51:10 PMWhy do so many players defend the current Trials setup? The original concept is almost completely destroyed. Carries and cheaters go to the Lighthouse all the time. By that logic, I never should have gone, but I did. So what's the point? I'm not sure what the answer is, but it needs some sort of a tune-up.

Let's make it SBMM or let's make it a tiered competition or let's force those who have been flawless into their own category. All of these different things to make trials more "inclusive."
You paint inclusivity as a bad thing. I assure you it's not. You seem opposed to ideas that provide ways for more people to enjoy another endgame activity. Many devs are coming to the realization that forms of inclusion such as SBMM are better for player retention than exclusive modes like CBMM. Trials, as currently structured, is a turn off for many people. It pushes a majority of the playerbase away just from the mere mention of "it's not for everyone." Why push people away when you can offer both inclusivity and exclusivity at the same time?
If it's just to see the lighthouse, well you've got to earn that too. It's an experience that only the best get to experience because they worked to be the best. If it's the stat that says you made it, well that's absolutely not a reason to change the system.
Trials is far from the perfection you're trying to sell us on. It's actually a Catch-22. Bungie advertises it as "not for everyone," then seems to wonder why so few play it. It pushes alot of casuals out. They'd have a better chance of success if more played. But perception is reality. So as long as the perception is "hardcore only," it will become reality. What non-hardcore player wants to willingly be cannon fodder for no-life PvPers? This is where we're at. If a small portion feel this way, so be it. But currently it's a large portion, and when it's a large portion it needs to be reassessed. Bungie has done this thrice (farming the gold bounty with April Update, adding Trials to the record, and making the bounties "easier") and gotten it wrong thrice. They either don't understand why we won't play it, are unwilling to, or just unable given their atrocious engine and coding. I don't expect anything to change anytime soon. But if Bungie wants to attract more players, they will need to figure why we don't participate.
Ultimately this is the question. Why do you care about the lighthouse so much?
I think a better question is: If there was a way to satiate both hardcore and casuals - the inclusivity that allows casuals to feel apart of something and have some real success alongside the exclusivity that will still allow hardcore players the ability to laud their successes over others - would you be opposed to it? Would you receive it with an open mind?

I don't. Not until they make the gear better.

3 RepliesAdept gear is damn near exotic without being exotic. Outlining enemies while ADS and having the additional perk along with a solid set of other perks for pvp make some of the best primaries in the game. Throw in an exclusive area to explore in game that many have never been to (making it seem way cooler than it actually is) and a grimoire card for obtaining and you have an upset community because most can't get any of that stuff. The sad part is that the lighthouse is obtainable through developing your skill and finding a solid team that you work well with. The first team I went to the light house with are above average players but not anywhere close to the best. The issue is nobody wants to put in the time and dedication to develop as a team and insist that they need one or two amazing players that can just do the work for them with little effort. In come the streamers and paid carries, bringing more stigma that unless you are one of the best you need a carry. That's why many complain on the forums that it needs a fix. I honestly think peoples attitudes need a fix, not the game itself
-
1 ReplyBecause the view is incroiable!
-
If grimoire was the primary reason then they could open the social space to anyone to explore and get the card. But the reward chest itself to be locked and only give it's loot to those who've been flawless.

1 ReplyEdited by IMADAJ: 1/7/2017 6:46:04 AMYes, I want to get to the lighthouse. I have never even tried because I'm horrible at PvP. I agree 100% though that Trials should be a game mode for the best of the best. On the flip side I was one of those who argued back in year one that VoG gear should have been a mandatory step to raise light level enough to do any of the Dark Below DLC instead of buying ones way through vendors. (And again CE should be done to get to HoW and so on and so on) Two paths to get light for the next DLC: Trials and Raids. (People argued that the raid only path was not fair for the PvP people before HoW, and Trials fills that roll perfectly).

4 RepliesI don't see why we cant have a rumble version of trials. Certainly rumble will show more skill than elimination. Especially, since apparently trials has just turned into a carry fest.
-
I don't care about the lighthouse (Iv been once or twice) I just want to find players to play with as none of my friends play this game anymore
-
Because no matter what elites may think of it, to us casuals, it's an accomplishment. To say we beat the odds and bested other, real players, it's an experience that even raids cannot attain.

I want the helm so I can b called master chiefs Egyptian cousin

8 RepliesEdited by KitsuneSonow: 1/7/2017 4:00:27 AMMy biggest issue is how Bungie CONSTANTLY says things about wanting more people to experience end game PVE activities and does everything in their power to make them easier/more accessible, but then when it comes to PVP related stuff it's always "THE BEST OF THE BEST ONLY". Seems kinda hypocritical of them to be like "Oh here is one endgame/hardcore activity that everyone should be able to complete" and then turn around and be like "Oh here is another endgame/hardcore activity that only a few should be able to complete"
-
4 RepliesOnly those who pay or get carried to see. It's not just for the best of the best.
-
1 ReplyI want it because my friend runs it on my face that he got carried but I don't wanna go on twitch and still need a supportive team
-
Because it's hard. Because the flawless ornaments look cool. Those are my reasons.
