I'm not an expert on the Hive, so bear with me.
There are 7 sects in the Hive force.
The Hidden Swarm-commonly found on Earth, most likely the Hive's main force
The Blood of Oryx-servants of Oryx, as the name suggests, found on the Dreadnaught
The Silent Brood-they act as wardens of the Dreadnaught's prison, found in the deeper areas of the Dreadnaught, like in the Darkblade strike
Spawn of Crota-Crota's servants, found on both Luna and Earth
The Cult of the Worm-found in the Prison of Elders
The Venom of Oryx-an extremely rare sect, found only in the First Firewall mission. May be Oryx's elite.
The Scarlet Brood-Unknown.
Remember Urrox, Flame Prince? Hive boss in the level 32 PoE, real pain to take down with his habit of lighting the ground on fire? He may be the missing link. His grimoire states that he kept(past-tense, important) watch of a long forgotten brood. That may be the Scarlet Brood, especially because of Urrox's special figure. But he isn't the only one of his kind.
Swordbearers bare a striking resemblance to Urrox, with the glowing...scarlet...vein-like structures and the 5-pronged head, Swordbearers may have been Urrox's Scarlet Brood. But they're not the only one of their kind, as we're missing Acolytes, Thrall, etc. Whatever happened to the Scarlet Brood, their numbers have dwindled so much that only a handful of them exist. And remember, TDB was before HoW and the Prison. Meaning that chronologically, it would make sense that Urrox would be the only one left.
But OP, what about the Swordbearers in Last Rites?
-I'm getting to it.
The Swordbearers in Last Rites could be Swordbearers from the Dreadnaught. Urrox most certainly would not have known this, because the Dreadnaught was Oryx's personal ride. Even if Urrox did know of other Swordbearers in the Dreadnaught, he couldn't watch them. At around HoW, Oryx had probably just noticed Crota's missing tithe. The Dradnuaght wasn't on the other side of Saturn then, it was most likely at the far reaches of the Solar System. Point is, he was far away, and Urrox couldn't lead them from such a great distance. And this is only if he knew that Swordbearers still remained.
What about the Hive seen with Urrox?
Cult of the Worm. Probably a bunch of captured Hive, along with a captured Urrox, banded together. But the could be all sorts of different Hive.

I suppose Taken Hive also count, or just Taken in general as a faction of the Hive.
4 RepliesEdited by DiscTrapG4m3r: 11/19/2016 5:28:48 AMPersonally Urrox is one of the most intriguing Hive champions to me.
I plan to write about him next in my #chrota tagged BoS unnoficial add on. Yes I did just plug my writings...check them out.
This is purely speculative but I believe that Urrox could have preceeded Crota in visiting our system with his spawn. I know that Crota first appeared during the Great Disaster but that was the first battle the City had with the Hive...not the Reef. It seems that the Hive sects are the offspring of the one they take their name after and also just the plain old offspring of either Oryx, Crota, the other two Hive god Sisters, etc. If they are indeed Urrox's spawn then when he was defeated by the Awoken (the only likely outcome as he is in the Prison of Elders) the remaining brood fell under the command of Crota. They are only seen in his ascendant throne space or following up behind stupid Thalnok (still sword bearers). I always theorized that Urrox and Crota were indeed brothers hence the title Urrox, scion of Oryx...but Crota was considered the heir to the Osmium throne. Of course Crota has many brothers and sisters but I believe that as these two ascended the power ladder they altered their appearances to be more "glowy" and so did the offspring. My other guess is that they could be the remnants of Alak-Hul and Verok's Hive babies with the larger part rebelling against Oryx with their father and dying/being taken.

1 ReplyGreat post OP! Really informative--I love figuring out which sect is located in which area, for whatever reason. It adds some motivation to each enemy you kill.

4 RepliesWait, isn't that invincible ogre from the new rise of iron strike (forgot the name) part of the silent brood?
-
1 ReplySimply put? They're cut content and/or yet another missed opportunity.

4 RepliesWas this before or after Sylok became "defiled"?

1 ReplyEither the Scarlet Brood is the Silent Brood's stage name (which wouldn't make sense since the Silent Brood was in Destiny's earliest trailers) or a future sect. Maybe it is Savathun's personal army?

Sounds like a whore house.
-
This is a logical assumption. Urrox was sent to watch over a forgotten brood, so it may be possible the Scarlet Brood was his.

6 RepliesThere are also Helium Drinkers, which closely resemble Hive, according to Book of Sorrow I: Predator.

I mean his card does say his brood is long forgotten. So I'm assuming his brood was killed off or disbanded once he was captured. I feel like the Scarlet Brood would have been an interesting enemy to have in a main story line though. Urrox was more badass than Crota or any other Hive prince. Urrox deserved his own story, imo.
