Sunlight On The Flat Earth: The Eratosthenes Myth Debunked

As many of you are aware, I have intuitively demonstrated the reality of a flat earth. One of the claims regularly put forth against the flat earth model, is the fanciful story of Eratosthenes. Eratosthenes was Greek, and lived in the Egyptian city of Alexandria. He performed a famous experiment, through which he erroneously concluded that the world is round. By observing shadows cast by the sun at two different locations, on the same day of the year, he concluded through a clever use of geometry the supposed diameter of a round earth. This video (though admittedly in error) by Carl Sagan nicely summarizes Eratosthenes infamous experiment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUxmCXSmtVo However, a quick look at my above gif quickly dispels any doubts that the shadow experiment may have raised: Eratosthenes assumes that the sun is a distant object. In reality, the sun is much smaller and very close (comparatively) to the surface of earth. The sun, acting much like a spot light (note above gif) circles above the surface of the earth. If we imagine Sagan's cardboard with two sticks perpendicularly attached, it is easy to see that the earth is flat: shine a spot light (the sun) directly above point "A" and it will cast no shadow. However, nearby point "B", as it is not directly beneath the light, will cast a distinct shadow. This obviously shows that the "diameter" of the earth, in reality, is an illusion based on the orbital patterns of the sun.

  • I commend you; now, if only you can prove the sun is actually closer to earth than the popular theory has us believe. That is the zinger- only then will this theory hold water. Its too bad NASA only shares CGI pics from space; or fish eye lenz pics from ISS. Read NASA's mission statement; protocol #1. I find it amusing when the establishment ridicules new or radical ideas/propositions. Keep pondering; dont take yes and sit down like everyone else. Youre on the right mind set! Kudos!!

  • This started out rather amusing. Now I'm getting worried that you actually, fully believe in this.

The moon's orbit is off in your scenario. The reason the moon goes from full to half to new is because of it's position relative to the sun. In your gif the moon is always full.

But spotlights and flashlights have parabolic mirrors behind them to focus the light in one direction. Are you implying that there is a large mirror behind the sun that we can't see? Otherwise, what is keeping the light from radiating everywhere like the light from a normal light source? If the earth is flat, why can't I always see the sun if I get to a high enough point?

I'm curious to know how summers in Antarctica would work with this model. Or just seasons in general. On the poles the sun doesn't set in the summer or rise in the winter, and with this model the light is only touching a portion of where you believe Antarctica to be at any given point. This wouldn't allow for a lack of a setting or rising sun on the south pole. The north pole could be more easily argued as it seems that the suns orbits that point on your model

                • But the sun is a sphere not a flashlight-like object. So light would go in all directions not in one focused spot. This post is just completely wrong

                    •
You have not countered any of my previous points. Time to add another to the list! MIRAGES DON'T HAPPEN BECAUSE ITS FAR, THEY HAPPEN BECAUSE ITS HOT. YOU ALREADY KNEW THIS. Here's my previous list if anyone was interested, and if this guy ACTUALLY WANTS TO RESPOND TO SOMETHING HE SAID HE WOULD.
Let's tackle jumping first. If you are on a cruise ship or inside a truck cabin, anywhere on a moving object where air resistance isn't a factor, try jumping. You won't fly backwards. Relativity is the principle here. If you are in a car moving forward, you may say: "The earth is still, and I am moving." You may also say: "The truck is still, and the earth is moving." There is no absolute frame of reference. If you throw a PAPER airplane off a moving truck, of course it won't move straight relative to the truck. It's paper. The wind will nearly instantly slow it down until it stops on the ground. The second one: centripetal force; gravity holds you on. Gravity would actually be lessened (the absolute force, at least), but you are still held on. You are being pulled to the center of mass in the earth. Also, how do you ignore the photos people have of space? Documentaries? Astronauts? NASA? And if they are miraculously fake, then why would nasa have a reason to make it fake? Why forge it and spend billions of dollars? On top of all that, where is the end of the "flat earth". If its flat, people will fall off the edge. How have people come all the way around the earth? Why does the earth get hotter the closer you are to its core of its flat? What's so hot that's underneath the earth if it isn't flat? Why does the earth only appear visible in a perfect circle when you are on earth? If its flat, wouldn't you be able to see as far as you desired without the horizon falling short? Why do engineers have to compensate for the earths curvature when building massive bridges if its flat? Please address each of these points one by one, and I'll take you seriously.
Edit: How do we have satellites orbiting? We know their up there, or else so many things in today's technology wouldn't work? How would they possibly orbit if its flat? If the world is constantly accelerating upwards, wouldn't the satellite just fall away once it went around the earth?
I will keep posting this until you respond. It's been a week now. You've still ignored me. You said "Bump for later", I did, and you never responded. I await your response.

Explain why Sun follows this path over an entire year. Be sure to explain why Sun appears where it does on the solstices and equinoxes, which, as an expert, you should know without me telling you. And further, any idea as to how to solve the retrograde motion problem?
