Same reason people still use icebreaker, felwinter's, and other year one guns; they're good. In thorn's case, it's also pretty fun. It's nice to be able to use a gun that feels and looks exotic, without feeling guilty because nobody can counter it.

People finally realised that there is no level system to crucible and it finally clicked that year 1 weapons can actually be used in crucible. You'll get a break during IB .. You'll just be getting pissed with TLW instead.
