Why do you play any game? I personally play them to have fun. Not to "accomplish" anything....

  • Maybe there's a large segment of the gaming community targeted by this game's structure that do wish to accomplish something? On top of that, what is the object of this game? Collecting loot? You've probably noticed that big inventory thingy on your menu? You might have heard about collecting materials so you can upgrade the stuff you've collected? No? Huh. I bet Bungie could hand you a shovel, tell you to dig a hole, and when you are done, tell you to fill it in and dig another one, and you would defend it as "fun". As long as it was a pretty shovel, I guess it would be okay.

  • 1. Then they are playng the wrong KIND of game. 2. To defeat enemies.....collect loot that makes you powerful....so that you can take on more powerful enemies...and collect more powerful loot. Rinse and Repeat. That is how this----AND EVERY LOOT-BASED (ACTION) RPG-----game works. 3. I've been playing games like this one for 20 years...and have been playing this one since the Beta. 4. If I found the act of digging that hole to be fun...then yes. If I didnt, then Bungie could ask me to dig the -blam!-ing Panama Canal for them, and I would hand them back the shovel. The point is that YOU have a responsibility to understand different TYPES of games, and to recognize WHICH type of game you are playing. Loot-based games----ALL LOOT BASED GAMES----don't "go" anywhere and don't "accomplish" anything. The point of the game is falling in love with the PROCESS that I highlighted previously. If you love that process, you can play the game for YEARS...and not get a SPECK of "new" content. Diablo II still had a thriving community nearly 10 years after its last expansion. If you need the accomplishement of tangible goals in order to be happy playing a game....THEN YOU ARE PLAYING THE WRONG KIND OF GAME, HERE.

  • This SO misrepresents the history of Destiny and Bungie I don't know where to begin. What you say you knew would happen before the release (per previous discussions) is moot... there is what Bungie said it was trying to do with a ground-breaking game that would mix single and multiplayer into a seamless experience, open world, wonderful story, blah, blah, blah. If there is a misperception, it's because it was hyped that way - intentionally - making Bungie dishonest in the eyes of most gamers. As their behavior doesn't appear to be changing soon, it's best to take the stance of "assume they are lying". Anyway... Bungie has marketed the game as something it isn't, and there isn't any way to get around that. People will be upset, and they have a right to be.

    1. Bungie is a developer that made its name making FIRST PERSON SHOOTERS. Those advertising claims mean somethign different to a ShOOTER gamer than they mean to a hardcore RPG gamer. Vanilla Destiny was a game that was being specifically targeted to the shooter gamer market. 2. Unless you're 8 years old, I don't CARE how the game was "hyped". You should have enough life experience to KNOW to NEVER accept ANY advertising at face value. Because its purpose is to generate DEMAND...not give an accurate picture of the product. So unless you are looking to sell a car...and prepared to tell prospective buyers EVERYTHING that is wrong with the car, you're something of a hypocrite. 3. You have a responsibility to yourself to be an informed consumer. IOW, to try the product you are buying (Bungie had TWO public betas) and to understand the product you are buying (the games types Bungie was borrowing from) so that you can make an informed purchase. I'm tired of listening to people who failed to do their homework before shelling out their money, blame BUNGIE for the decisions THEY made as consumers.

  • Huh. So if I read you right, Bungie lying = okay, it's the fault of the consumer they ever trusted a business with a previous good reputation. Got it.

  • So when you play a game...you just run around in circles and press buttons on the controller? You don't try to "accomplish" anything in the game like clearing levels, finding new items or gaining experience?

  • There is a difference between goals giving play FOCUS....and ACCOMPLISHING things. Minecraft is a game that lets you "accomplish something". At the ned you have built something new, and have a chance to show it to the world. There are no enduring accmplishments in loot-based games. Clear one level....the next higher one is waiting for you. Clear the highest levels, and modifiers and speed runs come into play. Collect all the gear and hit level-cap? The next expansion washes all that away, and you start the GRIND all over again. Which is why the players who do not burn out on these game are the ones who fall in love with the PROCESS of play. Not with accomplishing some sort of enduring goal. IOW, experienced loot-based/Action-RPG gamers EXPECTED that all Year ONe gear would be rendered obsolete. Because that is a staple of this genre of gaming. In fact, I was only suprised when Bungie tried to bypass this during HoWs. I was NOT suprised however with the later boredom people looked at the HoWs loot with....and that Bungie eventually had to abandon this and go back to the genre conventions that existed for a very clear reason. Which, Bungie had to (re) discover for themselves.
