Auto Rifles are not a competitive option
Bungie.
Most auto rifles take 5 or 6+ shots to kill even with precision. It takes twice as long to win a gunfight using an auto rifle that isn't the Suros Regime. I recommend reevaluating the damage and damage drop off of auto rifles. They should do the most damage at close to medium range.

I'd like a vote here - with respect to the OP's not-totally-invalid position; I feel that the low-rof AR's, though once dominant, have given way to a well-perked high-rate AR. I never liked them, but in the new scheme they are phenomenally effective. [spoiler]public service message: I have an old Unwilling Soul with Crowd Control and armor piercing rounds. If you get a high-rate AR with AP rounds, try it before you dump it. The impact boost from AR rounds is nothing on a regular gun, but on this type, it feels like an insane advantage. [/spoiler]

I think that auto rifles need some more range, it should be the recoil that is the limiting factor on how far it can shoot (to an extent)

As you are hitting them they can't really hit you for precision so it's a almost even trade I still find The last word to be a problem for me to up againts tho.

1 ReplyThe only Assault Rifle I use is Payback SOS. It is a Dark Below assault rifle that has the highest rate of fire + the ability to have 60-80 rounds in a magazine depending on the perks I have active. This gun kicks ass on Crucible and has led me to many 20+ kill matches in the past few weeks. Outside of Crucible, I use higher damage/ more recent assault rifles. But Payback SOS will always be my trump card for PvP. Check my warlock!

It takes some skill to handle the recoil at longer ranges. Autos are one of my favorite weapons.

Edit: For everyone saying auto rifles are still crap, and they warrant 'skill'. Remember the laser beam Suros back in January? Yeah let's not go back to that.

That's why I'm using fusion rifles currently. It takes so long for someone to kill me I have all the time in the world to charge up my weapon

Auto rifles are the most accessible weapon and therefore should not be yielding very easy kills. I personally haven't used an auto rifle in crucible yet, but they seem to be in a pretty good place.
