So, I decided to figure out what a Fatebringer is "worth". Here's the math:
1. I've seen it posted that the drop rate of Fatebringer is approximately 10%. That seems about right based on my experience. So, on average you'll have to run 10 raids to get one, and each raid takes approximately one hour. (let's just assume you do the full raid and don't bail after the Templar.) So, that's 10 hours.
2. Once you have it, you'll have to level it by completing bounties, killing enemies, etc. Taking a wild shot in the dark, let's say that takes another 2 hours. So now we're up to 12 hours of "work".
3. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the average hourly wage in the U.S. is around $25. Therefore, a 300 damage Fatebringer that took us 12 hours to obtain and level is worth 12*25 = $300.
But wait.... Now you have to ascend it. So you have to get yourself an Etheric Light. So that means running the PoE on 34 at least once. That's another half hour, or another $12.50.
So, all told, a Fatebringer is "worth" about $312.50.

I find it amusing that most people have issues with the one number you actually provide a reference for. I can click the link and actually see the number. I might disagree with saying it is an accurate representation of the average American, but the number is there and it is what it says it is: the average.

You should probably base it on the minimum wage. The lowest minimum wage. I say this for a couple reasons... 1. No experience or college/high school degree is required to purchase/play. 2. Based on some of the comments people post here, that's all they'll ever be making in their life. Yet, they will still be over paid.
If someone wants to pay me $25 an hour to play destiny, please speak up. I'll walk off my job right now!
$25 an hour? Fack off that's so untrue. Maybe if you include the 1% that make several million an hour, sure, it could offset the millions of Americans making minimum wage.
-
1 ReplyBroken data It doesn't take an hour to kill 1 boss

4 RepliesBy your standards it costs me 25 dollars to take a shit...

6 RepliesI don't think $25/hour is right....

I spent way more than 12 hours. I don't want to think about. Just glad I got my first one (and a second) and was able to enjoy them for several months.

10% chance each time. A flipped coin has no memory of it's last flip.

actually the worth of Fatebringer is based on the value an individual places upon free time, which means if the person is playing destiny instead of taking extra work for extra money, then we have a greater than working wage value, Fatebringer can be worth maybe around $100 to someone making minimum wage to some ridiculous sum of money depending on the top end wages that people playing destiny earn. Either way, the relative value will always be the same, equal to 10-11 hours worth of free time which is assumed to be worth more than work time

I got super lucky with Fatebringer, just recently switched from XB1 to PS4 and on my very first VoG hard raid I got The Vex Mythoclast and on my second run I got Fatebringer and Praedyth's Timepiece!

5 RepliesMy Gjallarhorn is worth approx $13,000 then!
-
10 Replies25 bucks average hourly? Wdf? how does that even take into account the mass majority of Americans on minimum wage or unemplorment?
-
Since it takes an avg of 47 levels to get my non-existand Dead Orbit shader that makes it worth $123,890. The bidding on Ebay was just opened.

This is why player trading doesn't exist lol.

1 Reply"Average wage" is misleading. The average hourly wage between myself and, let's say, Donald Trump is about $750,000. Let's look at median wage instead, which, for 2011 (last census data available) was $26,695 a year, translating to roughly $14 an hour. This is calculated simply by taking all the earners in the U.S., lining them up from lowest to highest, and choosing the one in the middle. The "median" figure doesn't skew towards the highest numbers the way an average can. A few extremely wealthy individuals can throw off the average figure very easily. That cuts the cost of the Fatebringer by about 3/5, at a quick estimate... since I'm too lazy at this time to do the math. Feel free, though.
