What bothers me most about destiny's story
Okay one of the most frustrating parts of the story for me was how the game didn't give any good reason WHY it was hiding stuff. Clearly bungie wanted to save some of the big reveals for later games and expansions. But the information exists in the game, the vanguard know stuff, the ghost knows stuff, and the speaker knows stuff.
AND THEY DON'T TELL YOU JACK SHIT!
The worst part is they are willing to tell your guardian! The game just doesn't give you the option to ask.
like the exo stranger. She said she didn't have time to explain, but at the end she did have time and didn't say anything.
Or the scene where the speaker says "I could tell you" but be doesn't. Why? -blam!- you that's why.
Or how about that HoW grimoire where Cayde 6 explains the prison of elders in depth. He says "wait you don't know? Weren't you on the strike team that killed that Archon Priest? Let me explain".
He knows, and he has no hang ups about telling you. He just didn't until now. For no reason.
Our what about when your ghost says "we've heard the legends about the black garden" NO I DON'T!
I STILL DON'T! all I know is that it's vex, is on no known map of space and time, and has some big black evil thing in it.
Still haven't heard the original legend.
Also they never tell me what killing that black thing even did.
They designed these characters to know more than you.
And they designed them to be willing to teach you.
Then they made it so no one teaches you anything.
It's bull shit.

1 ReplyAgree and disagree. Agree, current content feels broken up and disconnected. Whether on purpose, whether cut last minute to trickle out in pieces over 10 years, whether a drastic story change late in development due to losing key people....it's not very complete. That said, I disagree in that I look at the story, canon, and lore of the halo universe and am shocked at how much story has been flushed out of such humble beginnings. No way I thought playing halo:CE that one of the most in depth storIes in gaming history was being started. It had groundbreaking mechanics and environments, but the story was fairly straight forward, fight bad aliens, keep them from blowing up earth, silent protagonist. I think there is enough history with halo for me to think that despite the story's current state, that the ultimate story is salvageable. In the meantime, I'll casually grind along...

2 RepliesI have a few points. First one, you are right there is no reason why your Guardian shouldn't know certain stuff, like exactly who the Lords of Iron are and what they did. Second, some stuff is in the Grimoire like the Black Garden legend but we should be able to access it in game. Third, your Cayde-6 example is weak cause until House of Wolves what the Prison of Elders is was irrelevant. Finally, killing the Heart of the Garden has allowed the Traveler to start healing, hopefully in TTK we will see it do stuff.

There are so many things in the story that don't make sense, and sometimes the actual characters contradict each other. The example I have to mind at the moment is the Sword of Crota mission where we go to destroy the Sword. Cryptarch tells us to go and kill the swarm princes to [i][b]steal[/b][/i] the Sword. You spawn: Ghost: "Alright, according to the chryptarchs the only way to destroy the Sword is to kill the swarm princes" Me: *to screen* But we're trying to steal it! At the end Sword breaks, ghost: "The cryptarchs won't believe it" Me: You broke it because they wanted us to steal it. Game doesn't even follow its own storytelling.

The storyline is complete garbage. I don't care what the excuse is for such a horrible campaign story. Millions were spent to give us an end boss that had no face, no name, no body, and was just a big pulsating glob of goo. Everyone keeps hanging on to hope that this game will change or become better but I'm sorry to say we have all wasted our time (a lot of time) on this flop of a game. It is beyond fixing and should be allowed to fall into obscurity where it belongs.

The lore of destiny is kind of amazing, and the fact that it isnt in the game pisses me off to no return. As angry joe said in his review "external material should enrich the lore! If I have to LEAVE THE GAME to understand what is going on, that aspect of your game HAS FAILED"

the story was completely rehashed after joe staten left the company.. they didnt had time to fix the leftovers so they decided to tell nothing.. and have some third class writer put the grimoire together.. all because the engine they created out of the blam engine of halo 3 wasnt able to carry the content that was needed for a full story..

Well, "Destiny" and "Story", the two words really don't go together. If you want a game with rich stories, you should probably look elsewhere, say, umm CandyCrush.

3 RepliesI'm pretty sure there will be no main storyline advancement until destiny 2 (sept 2016). We are kinda paying for an extended beta. Destiny 2 will be able to be much closer to what was originally promised (think 2013 e3) because it will finally be current gen only.

6 RepliesWhat do you expect to get from a story that was broken apart, boiled down, and then mashed together? There are files all over that show the story was supposed to have an actual plot, with 3 THREE! Separate openings depending on which race you picked. They chopped it all up to sell it later. They fired the lead writer, and then reduced everything to this mission shit because that's all 12 yr Olds can handle apparently.
