Why does EVERYONE use shotguns in PvP?
I understand if you like using shotguns for going into a small room or turning a corner but so many people just use shotguns all game to the point that I don't really get killed by any primaries. I think that special ammo needs to be spawned in a more spaced out manner so that nobody can use any special weapons for an entire match every match. I want to see more diversity in PvP not just Felwinters Lie and Thorn :(

It really annoys the crap out of me when I play on shores of time and all the players choose to blink and shotgun or if they fail double melee and even grenade spam. It's really irritating at times. Heck it's hard for me to even find someone that knows how to use a scout primary and have a strafe battle. Shotguns=CQC/not a weapon to run around with endlessly as the scrubs using them only know how to earn killstreaks with them.

1 ReplyBecause there's hardly any long range maps that cater to you using a mid to long range weapon set. Think of it this way you can cover yourself at mid range with your primary. And at close range you can cover yourself with a shotgun. Now the majority of maps in rotation right now are all pretty much close to mid range maps. Guess what that means? Going with whatever primary you want, having a shotgun as your secondary will cover you for a majority of the engagements you'll face on these maps. The only exception is Shores of Time. Long range engagements are possible here, so equipping a sniper isn't a bad idea on this map. You'll just have to keep yourself distanced mid to long range against other enemy players.

1 ReplyLevels the playing field for people not good at pvp. I used to play Dust 514 and went 31/0, problem is people new to the game went 0/21 and quit within days. You had to grind for months to afford the good mods to be able to run all over people. Sorry but supers and corner twitch shooting is a good idea. Sometime I go .90 KDR, sometimes I go 4.0. But there are always people playing and I always have fun.

The maps are too small for snipers and fusion rifles have to charge. If you're being flanked you don't have the time to charge a fusion file, but you can use your shotgun.

I never used to use shotguns that much but I have started using them more lately purely to annoy other Blink/Sliding shotgun users. One guy sent me a hate message the other day yet he had Universal Remote & Found Verdict equipped. Made me chuckle

Because there are only 3 types of special weapons and sniper rifles suck, so people either use fusion rifles or shotguns. And everybody hates getting killed by both of those guns, but not everyone complains about it. Stay out of shotgun range.

I've tried to explain this in a lot of threads. The reason everyone uses shotguns is because the maps are designed for shotguns. They were designed poorly in the sense that not all weapons are created equal on these maps. What makes the problem worse is the blink jump. This is because normally a person with a shotgun has to sprint to close the gap for their shotgun to be effective. But with blink, if a shotgunner sees a medium range gap they need to close in order to make their shotgun effective, they simply teleport to close that gap. The maps either need to become bigger or less cluttered, which will make shotguns more situational rather than being used all game as a primary

Its a play unfortunately. The idea is to be an aggressive player originally. But now it's a camping method. I personally carry a shotgun but I use it id say 40% of the time playing crucible. Hawkmoon is always my primary especially for Iron Banner. Bungie just needs to limit the amount if special that appears is all.

The same reason people use fusion grenades/flux grenades/magnetic grenades. Can't be bothered to aim or shoot twice.

I don't, snipers or the occasionally fusion rifle. Mostly primary either red death/super pox or scouts pre buff and after.
