My girlfriend won't let me join....
So my girlfriend won't let me join the Marines, saying "she doesn't want the military as any part of her life"
It's been my life long dream to join the Marines.
What should I do?

6 RepliesJust please think of what you're life could become if you stay, you could end up having a family... Sorry but in my opinion real war is terrifying. I'm glad that you're that brave but, just think of your options ok?

If you're really going to join the Marines join, don't let other people deter you from your dreams! I wanted to join the Marines but they wouldn't let me I got a couple of screws in my knee, I'm joining the Army pretty soon I'm -blam!-ing pumped!!

She's probably right. The marines isn't what it use to be. Now it's all glorified. The thing is, you are just fodder in the eyes of the elite.

Look man join the military if its been your life long dream. If shes holding you back from doing something that will make you happy then she probably isnt the one

I've been in for 6 years. If she doesn't want it as part of her life. Tell her ok then join. She'll either realize she misses you or move on.

This isn't the place to search for answers to such a life changing decision,you need to do a little soul searching and talk to real friends and family they can offer more than any random person on these forums.

I'm not a Marine but I am active duty Air Force, one of the best decisions I've made. And it was totally worth it. Don't let some dumb girl choose your life decisions, if this is what YOU want to do and something you aspire to then do so, if she cared about you and your relationship with her then she'd be accepting and understanding of it regardless of how she really felt, if she did care yea she wouldn't agree with it but she'd still stick with you cause she cares and loves you. Listen to your heart and your guts dude.

Can you get a girlfriend that WANTS to be part of your military life? If so, you get both the cow AND the cowbell... sounds like a deal to me. You can do it dude, discard your current gf and follow your dream... dreamgirls can only be found in your dreams. Its a possibility you can find her in the middle east or south america, good luck friend!!

Do not ever let someone who claims they care about you dictate what you want to do especially Joining the military. It is a good thing.

Your girlfriend is not your wife. Just saying, don't make life altering decisions on a relationship that is not committed. I don't know you or your girlfriend at all, but a good relationship will enhance your life, not hinder it. With that said, I would probably not get advice from people of the Internet and discuss this with real friends and family.

If it's your life long dream, then she doesn't have any say in it. If she doesn't support your decision, then she is obviously not the right one for you. Also, this has nothing to do with #Destiny and should be retagged #OffTopic.

Unless your in a shitty spot in life I wouldn't do it. I know plenty of marines, and they don't recommend joining
