I will admit that, with my limited exposure to anime, that the voice actors in the subbed versions are almost always better. However, I just want to lay in bed and watch tv, not read subtitles for hours, so I prefer mine dubbed simply for convenience.

Edited by Failure4Life: 1/21/2014 9:29:04 AMDepends. With the more popular ones like SAO and Clannad subbed. However with some of the smaller more "indie" ones the dub can often times be better (If it even gets one) the reason being that some anime have awful voice acting that people don't notice because they don't understand the language (I'm looking at you Elfen Lied). Funimations dubs are actually really good and I often take them over subbed. One of the better examples I can provide (Other than obvious ones like Baccano!) is for example Angel Beats!, the dub almost perfectly captures Angel, Yuri, Noda, Uyama, TK, and Yui. Otonashi is not the greatest however. I'll say roughly 80% that I watch is subbed.

I actually prefer having subtitles on everything I watch. Just so I don't miss any dialogue.

2 RepliesI don't know about anime but I prefer my Takeshi's Castle dubbed.

Was not expecting pretty much a 50/50 split. If anything the main reason why I "like" subbed more is not due to the VA's, but more as a result of what is more readily available. A lot of new shows aren't dubbed and a lot of old/new shows will never be dubbed. As a result I watch subbed far more than I do dubbed and pretty much the only anime nowadays I watch dubbed are from my childhood that I am watching for the nostalgia factor. Also OP watch enough anime subbed and the whole reading "issue" no longer becomes an issue.

2 RepliesDubbed because I prefer watching it in my own language. But a few are just plain awful dubbed (BELIEVE IT!)
-
Dubbed voice acting is usually horrible, so subbed.
-
Unless they find really good voice actors to dub the anime, subbed. I don't mind reading subtitles in the place of listening to voice actors who suck at their roles or don't just really fit them well.
-
Usually dubbed as much as I can I feel always having to look down at the subtitles detracts me from enjoying the show as much as if I watched the dubs or knew Japanese.
-
Whatever cast is better. Sometimes it's the dub, other times it's the sub. I'm not really a purist.
-
Preferably subbed, but I don't mind watching a dub so long as it's good. Like, Funimation's dubs are pretty good.
-
Medium Rare.
Dubbed.
I don't even realize I read subtitles anymore. And if I didn't watch subbed, I'd never pay attention to the show

2 RepliesFalse. 'Murican animation are be the best. The above video is proof.
-
Whichever one I first watch the show in, unless the dub is atrocious. Most of what I watch though is relatively new and outright lacks a dub, but there are a handful of shows that I originally watched dubbed and now have difficulty accepting their Japanese voices.
-
The only closest thing I've gotten to anime is the game BlazBlue: Continuum Shift, which is a fighting game with a pretty damn deep story of its own. I started to listen to the dubbed voices and grew costumed to them. They didn't sound bad to me at all. In all honesty, I don't see why anyone would want to watch anime in a language they may or may not understand, but quite frankly, I have little to no experience with anime. So yeah, suck it to me.

Edited by Fallen Hero: 1/21/2014 5:08:40 AMDubbed, though the only anime I seen as a child was DBZ and it wasn't till last year I watched Cowboy Bebop all the way through.
-
Subbed. I can speed read and watch the show at the same time. Much better voice actors IMO.
-
Short. *reads op* Oh... uh... dubbed.
-
Why isn't there a nonexistent option :c
-
Subbed, original language is always better than dubbed.
-
I hate the super weeaboo's that come into every dubbed anime just to say how much superior the Japanese VA's are.
-
It depends on the anime itself, but most of the time it's subs.
-
I normally watch fansubs because they're just... well, there, whenever I want.
-
Nonexistent.

Anime... Yeah, no.
