I can't say for sure if this has been officially confirmed, but it looks as though Neill Blomkamp ('District 9,' 'Elysium,' 'Chappie') will be writing and directing a version of the 1959 Heinlein novel of the same name.
According to what I read it appears to be closer to the source material rather than like the 1997 Verhoeven cult classic.

1 ReplyEdited by megatron1984: 3/18/2025 1:01:56 PMI actually liked the original with its kinda slap stick. I hope that stays the same. I'll check it out once a trailer drops.

1 ReplyThat could be good. It was one of the first sci-fi books that I read back in the early 60s, right after Andre Norton's Star Guard. I've read all of Heinlein's books. I've seen Chappie and District 9, but not Elysium. Need to check that one out.

Anything modern is most likely garbage -
2 RepliesMeh, I'll pass. I can't think of a single reboot that ever did justice to the original. At least not at the moment. It seems as though there can rarely ever be any new. original anything come out of the movie industry that can stand on its own and succeed. The funny thing is, I've been seeing a lot of vids from 'Abandon Movies', or something like that, where it's a CG / AI short trailer about reimagined blockbusters only done in the style of the late 50's sci-fi. I'd watch them long before I'd watch any reboot done in today's settings.

I vaguely saw something in my feed but didn't click on it and dismissed it as probably -blam!-, but knowing who's behind it, I'm interested. I wonder who Sharlto Copley is going to play.
