ok so i went through all of these suggestions and my fix was simply opening up "sounds" settings and going to recording devices and disabling the hands free audio option and it fixed the issue and back to quality sound and i can hear everything again!

This has plaqued me for years, only having weird work arounds like adding a second pair bluetooth headphones to put its as standard com device.
