Sincerely Sick and Tired of Pinnacle Grind

Here’s my situation. I need boots and a cloak on my hunter in order to achieve 1060 true Power. My Warlock needs a helmet. At this point - after hours and four weeks now of grinding powerfuls and pinnacles - I am literally at the mercy of RNG in order to hit max power. This is a joke. Power in and of itself is a meaningless number that does nothing but force us to run activities we have been running for years whenever they up the cap every few months in order to run new content. THIS. IS. HORRENDOUS. Bungie. Did you not learn way back during D1 OG VoG days and forever 29? Why are you taking my ability to level out of my hands and forcing me to hope for a good drop to hit max Pinnacle Cap? Why is Power still a meaningless number that you keep increasing to create artificial grind? WHY, in this action RPG, does my level mean NOTHING in the grand scheme of things?? I don’t feel more powerful as I climb in power. Ever. And I never have. At this point it’s just a number that pushes me to run boring activities so that I can efficiently run new content. This is not fun. It feels bad. Please, PLEASE fix this in Beyond Light. Thank you for reading. Edit: Thank you all for the replies. A lot of people asking why I want to hit Pinnacle Max if Power is meaningless as I say. Honestly - I enjoy Min - Maxing in games like this. Pinnacle Cap is an achievement that I would like to hit and the path to that cap is not fun. It’s complete RNG which is very bad. Leveling should be completely in the hands of the player and not at the mercy of a slot machine type of system. And to those telling me that I offered no solution - here is one - remove Pinnacle Cap, go back to how it was in D1 where you could gain power by simply playing the game and collecting engrams, and create more difficult endgame activities to compensate for the more lax power grind. On a larger scale, however, they should borrow from how The Division 2 does their leveling after hitting level cap(SHD Level) and give us small bonuses for ever level of power we have achieved(think Borderlands Badass Rank or Elder Scrolls Online Champion Points). Or something similar. Create true meaning for that power number. Make us feel more powerful as the number gets bigger, albeit in small bonuses that cumulate over time. That being said - I will no longer respond to people, especially those attempting to tell me how I should feel about my own personal gameplay experience. To me, the current Power Level system feels bad. That’s my experience and I won’t apologize for it. I appreciate everyone’s opinion, but when it comes to trying to tell me how to feel, that’s a no go. Thank you again for how large this post has become and please be kind to each other! Happy 4th of July!

  • Game has always been like this. It is bad. The team at Bungie are a bunch of incompetent douchtards. You should just give up and play a game that is actually fun and hopefully enough people will do this and Bungle will pull their heads out of their collective asses. It’s a long shot, but until enough people stop putting up with this garbage Bungle’s only concern is milking the most out of players with minimal effort.

  • Sunsetting is what gives us amazing legendary weapons like Falling Guillotine! How are we going to balance them anyway without them taking the top spot forever? It's not a system we like, but it's one we need. STOP CRYING! It's going to last only for a year, and that's enough time! Besides Bungie is not taking it away from you, child! So go off, and create experiences, not slavish devotions to weapons! I don't play Destiny for the weapons, I play Destiny for the gunplay and atmosphere! Destiny is a looter shooter, not a looter hoarder! Just relax, Destiny 2 has sunsetted before! Why complain as usual? Destiny 2 has sunsetted TWICE because they made your Y1 weapons and 1.0 armour obsolete. Have you ever used them? Also, Destiny is a grinding game, and have you played games that reuse content before? Like have you played any game ever in history? Just don't play Destiny 2, your brain can only complain about statement so simple! Bungie.net is so toxic! All you do is harass people! We direct other users away from your evil lands! DIE TROLL! PU PU PU PU! Like DeeJ said, starve the villains!

  • I would like to know if does -blam!- people that work at bungie realize that by the time I'm actually able to do a pinnacle nightfall or a pinnacle reward nightmare season almost over ,cuz every -blam!-ing season they reset all my artifact power an over and over they raise the power of does activity by 70 points above your light

    • Welcome to destiny where the loot is stingy and there is no loot protection. If bungie wants you to get that skull of ahamkara 7 times in a row then you have no choice

    • If there is one thing I've learned is....bungie doesnt learn, ever. They repeat the same mistakes over and over. In all actuality they are completely horrible at managing and developing this franchise.

    • My advice is just play for the fun of it. Run a raid or two every week and you will get your 1060 soon enough.

      • Pinnacle is annoying like you said but I think if there was some RNG protection with the drops and the Power grind was only after a Fall expansion I'd be fine grinding it. An increase every season is getting tiring very fast. And as Mtashed said, at least we are passively powering up during the Fall Expansion because we are doing the Campaign and quests and then by the time we are done we would've already leveled up a good chunk. The problem with seasonal increases is that there is no new Campaign or side things to passively level up in. The only ways to level up are through the same old content because all the new seasonal content is too high to play.

      • Used to try and hit it but now given up. The time investment is ridiculous. Bounties over and over and over. It’s just a slog. Good for you if you want to hit max power though, but you are in a minority in getting there. I have a friend who is 1181 and he plays it all day and does not work.

        • The longer you're not at cap, the longer you'll play to reach cap. If you reach cap, get bored, and leave, then you can't spend money at Eververse.

          • I used to stress about this stuff. I get its a personal goal etc etc as I used to do it too. But now i'm just not bothered. A couple points of light will not help this season or next season, or DLC or whatever word they attach to it. If you're shooting for a day 1 raid it also won't matter if you're a few under current cap. Blues will outpace your current level in an hour. Changing my approach based on this truth has really helped me enjoy the game more and not feel stressed to complete every pinnacle, every powerful, and move to the next char. I just do what I feel like or if the clan is on help out.

            • So don’t grind it. 10 light literally has no impact in pvp and you’ll hit that power in the first minutes of the next season. Totally not worth it

You can’t compare being 1059 for a week to forever 29. You will be 1060 on Tuesday.

              • I honestly don’t know why people are complaining about reaching pinnacle cap on gear this early in the season. No matter what system Bungie puts into place, it will not be enough for everyone though.

              • You're complaining like this is a serious problem. It isn't. It's just something extra to dox and you're giving it more meaning that it deserves credit for. Stop being insecure.

                • Why are you making it the main focus , play and enjoy with your friends, eventually you will get it and don’t blame destiny for your impatience it’s a hobby a game first before anything. And you knowing max power doesn’t really mean to much why make it so important in your mind that’s your fault !!!!

                • Hitting max level takes much more time than the first game. Also, level increases happen far too frequently. Raise max level only once per year

                • I've said it elsewhere, but I'd be totally fine with power or light or whatever being removed entirely in favor of gameplay difficulty instead of number dictated difficulty. Or if that's not going to happen, which is likely the case, for the rewards to not up and disappear after getting them the first time in a week. Giving us the ability to grind as much or as little as we like for our upgrades would solve this problem neatly without impacting the gameplay mechanics as badly. That, and those of us who dislike PVP won't have to touch it. At all. Ever. Even if it would technically be the fastest way of grinding levels, we'd still be able to ignore it entirely which would honestly be great. I've tried to work up the willpower to wade through more rounds of crucishit twice this week and so far I just couldn't.
