• If they're effectively dictating how a game should be played *COUGH* DESTINY1/2 *COUGH* Then they aren't worth my attention.

It makes me cringe and it makes me feel old. But if people find entertainment value out of it then who am I to try to stop them. My biggest gripe is that for certain games or activities, it’s expected that you know exactly what to do before you even play it. Experiencing new things in a game firsthand is now apparently antiquated.

    • I like them, but the ones who are arrogant and act like they're better than everyone else or that they deserve special treatment because they're a stream are dumb

    • I don't mind it, Since that are a few that watch as long as they are clickbait heavy or get themselves in drama and more things that I can't think of on the top of my head.

    • Fine with em until they bring their life into it because imo that’s not why people are watching em and it just comes off as arrogance

    • It’s just as much of a career as other sports players. Basketball players are paid to play a game. Sports commentators sit there and TELL you what’s happening. Anyone can do that. It’s literally the same thing as watching someone play football or some other sport.

      • If they are making good money, I can't really blame them, but I don't really watch streams since I find them about as boring as being over a friend's house and watching them over their shoulder. As far a health, if they are pulling all nighters just outrageous hours of gaming, ehhh maybe they should trim it down so they aren't full potato mode.

      • All stupid and need a life. But some of them are good though. Like Andrei Terbea. Or whatever his last name is.

I think it’s fine but sometimes unhealthy but I want your opinion
tworls stoche
-edit Streamers/youtubers that play for hours and hours
I used to watch a streamer on Twitch, found him back in 2016 and only stopped watching just over a year ago, he has a great community and friends he would play with, as well as sub game nights where he would play games with subscribers. Before I stopped watching him he had played on two Atlas servers, one a normal server on which he played with his friends and subs, the second an RP server, and a GTA 5 RP server. Most streams he played for a good 8-12 hours, he also stated that he spends a good several hours before he goes live answering email and other parts of buisness, such as meetings with server admins about changes to servers(for the RP servers.) He has also tolled a few stories from his time as an IT/"geek squad" and how he was getting board with it and was about to submit his application to his local police department when his channel took off. He's the reason I found out about and subsequently started playing many of the games I have. I would have subbed to his channel back in 2016 if I knew I had the ok back then.

          • More often than not, I’m indifferent to them. But that can vary depending on my mood, the YouTuber/Streamer in question, what they are playing, the content they are making, and the service they are providing. I visit YouTube quite often, sometimes for tips ( finding all the Collectables in games like GoW series, or Uncharted games, or even Destiny ) or walkthroughs of various games. I also watch full play through s of games that I’m vaguely interested in, but have no desire to play through myself ( Sekiro, or GTA5 ). I don’t really do Twitch, or Mixer, or any of the other alternatives. The only Streamer that I’ve watched on Twitch is Brianna White ( Strange Rebel Gaming ) and that’s because I wanted to watch her play The Final Fantasy 7 Remake ( she’s the voice actress for Aerith in the FF7 Remake ), and none of her FF7 videos are up on her YouTube page yet. I don’t like the Twitch format, but I can see that it’s a lot of work being a Streamer. Brianna spend hours interacting with her community, and I can see right away that what she does, not everyone can do that, be entertaining ( and nice, and likeable ) for multiple hours a day. There’s also the tech side of things, trouble shooting sound and video issues on the fly. On the other hand, I have a very low opinion of Destiny streamers in general, mainly because of their influence, and how it’s affected the game ( franchise ). I suppose it’s a side effect of Destiny being a multi player action game. There’s less respect for the story, a lot less appreciation for environmental design. More emphasis on rushing past stuff, and blowing up shit. The banter is different to say someone who’s playing a solo player game. The playerbase comes off as less mature, less civilised. And PVP bores the ever living shit out of me. I have no interest in anything PVP related, which covers 80% of Destiny streams. I like the lore guys, and I respect the crap out of them for what they do.

I see no problem with it. Respect to them for taking a chance in such a competitive environment, and for being willing to make a job out of video games. It sounds like a dream on paper but if you get stuck being a streamer for a game you don’t like then you have to keep playing that game to keep your job, case in point literally every destiny streamer. I guarantee you if they could switch to another game or become variety creators and not lose business they would do it in a heart best. You really think they WANT to keep streaming trials all weekend long, getting error coded and matching cheaters? Same goes for fortnite streamers. Tfue is a good example. One of the biggest names in that community, has made MILLIONS off of it. Yet every day tweets about how much he hates it and can you blame him? He made a name for himself when the game was universally considered good. Now he has to keep his name when the game sucks. He’s started playing the new cod and has lost a bunch of viewers and subs because when people think of Tfue they think of fortnite and theres no way around that. So respect to him for keeping it up.

Never found any interest in watching gamers. Then a couple years ago I was trying to decide if I wanted to buy a game I was interested in. So I watched a couple videos to get an idea of the gameplay... stumbled across a channel called Neebs Gaming.. and now I’m a 42 year old man who eagerly awaits new videos from 5 old dudes playing video games. 🤷‍♂️

I don't watch streamers, but I watch YTers. It's usually for information or entertainment, like game news, guides, tips, and lore, subbed to some commentary channels and comedy. I honestly don't care if they make money off of it. It's a market for people and they probably should tbh. Lots of creators pour heart and souls into their work. Nothing different from a different artist.

          • Idk, entertainment seems like such a random industry anyway, if you can convince people to give you money then ride that wave as long as you can. I think in general it's a good thing that ordinary people can monetize their talents/hobbies/whatever much easier than before.

          • I have no use for them what so ever. To me Youtube is just an information/instructional tool, or a means of recalling past events, things I was not able to see in person,... As for watching people play games, I just can't understand why anyone would watch that. "It's entertainment". Maybe, but I can only see so much of the same thing or little happening for any period of time before you lost me. From what I have seen, too many streamers try too hard to 'be' funny or whatever. To me it's all about the attention they get, or they're trying to get paid for not really doing anything. It's just not for me.

          • I don't watch 'em but I don't see a problem with people seeing a market and cashing in on it. That said, I do find the illusion of how "easily" one can become a streamer to be a bit dangerous. I've had more than a handful of students whose grades went down the shitter because they spent all their time streaming due to being convinced they'd "make it big" one day, only to end up failing courses.

            • The people that are there to actually play games and entertain their viewers are the ones we need to support. IG models who have never touched a controller in their lives are turning to streaming now to get desperate guys to give them their money. Twitch Thots as everyone calls them.

              • There are people out there who make more money & whose jobs are even less valuable to society, so I don’t see why not.
