100%. I've been saying this for 3+ months. Part of the reason fusions are used so much is because of shotguns. Once fusions are balanced out, the game will go back to being as stale as it was before. The game is stale already now but it'll be far worse again. Shotgun range is too high. Mindbenders is the worst offender. It's impact is higher than dust rock yet most rolls I see have less than half the range of a God roll dust rock, yet it consistently works at greater ranges than the already OP dust rock. This is an issue with the way the range stat works. High impact shouldn't overwrite the damage falloff caused by having a low range stat, yet it does more than that, it makes the weapon better than one with more range and slightly less impact. I know some people mention that shotguns have an RNG element to them and sure I can certainly see that but that doesn't so much affect the top performance shotguns as it does things like lightweight frame shotguns such as parcel of stardust. I've been using that this afternoon on my dad's account and almost point blank, I'm not always killing. Shotguns need a nerf but like many things, need to be made consistent as well.

It's been a shotgun meta for the past year and honestly it gets kind of boring just watching people spam slide to gap close, which makes them harder to kill because they shift their hit box and can still shoot and melee after. I am by no means defending erentil...but the most used special in the game...is the most used special in the game for a reason, which goes to shotguns. The range doesn't even really matter because the ease of use with shotguns is so high that pretty much anybody can pick one up and slay with them. The fact that in their own respective ranges, they can easily secure kills without slowing you down is a big reason as to why shotguns are meta. Erentil, although it is also insanely easy to use, has the deficit of charge time which can be a problem if you get caught off guard. You can get back up plan on it (which is stupid) but at least that cripples it's range a bit because you can no longer use range finder. Again, I am not defending erentil, just using their differences as my argument. One has no charge time and can instantly kill someone at about 8 meters. The other has normal primary ttk charge time but insane range and kill potential. The trade off sometimes don't matter on fusions with precharge being put into play, but that's the same thing people slide with shotguns for. I hope they nerf erentil, but shotguns shouldn't just be left alone due to erentil being the only other special people are killing people easily with. Shotguns were the meta and still are. Toning their kill range down on the high impacts and precision frame shotguns by about half a meter MAX would be fine. I think that the adaptive shotguns (or whatever parcel of stardust is) could use a 0.25 meter range nerf as well. I'm talking overall, not in terms of the range calculations. The shotgun meta has been a long lasting one and honestly a little tone down is needed. I respect that they have low range, but 8 meters is still 8 meters of death and even then about 10 meters is still going to put someone into critical if the pellets spread in the right way, which allows for an easy follow up melee for a kill. I'd like if smgs besides recluse had more breathing room to work with, same with side arms. They practically share the same range and that can be a problem. Even recluse only has about 14.5 meters of range before fall off and that's way below the other primaries (for good reason). Just an observation on the whole thing. Erentil damage needs to be nerfed to about 44 damage and tone down the range. This requires that you hit 5 bolts to kill somebody instead of 4 and a decrease to range will reign their kill range. I think erentil, with as much range and range finder, should still be able to kill at about 25 meters and then need really good recoil control to extend it. 25 meters is also fair given the charge time.

Maybe you shouldn't run down the middle of lanes, or maybe utilize cover more. You could try dodging or sliding. Just don't forget, if you're marked for Vengeance just run away. Dont challenge. 99 percent of the time I see a fusion rifle, it's used by some loser OEM Titan. Shotguns are in a good place.

Don’t get me wrong, high impact fusions DO need a nerf, but there’s a reason you see so many damn shotguns in the kill feed, they’re super forgiving and easy to use. I’d be happy with a range nerf but consistency buff for shotguns and harsher damage falloff at range for high impact fusions.

2 RepliesIf you're going to nerf erentil, do it right. Bungie has a horrible track record for nuking fusion rifles every chance they get. Range nerf: fine. I want it to still have enough range to live in the same space with max range shotguns though. If the erentil ohko range is 30m, and dust rock is what 8-9m, then erentil should be dropped to maybe 15-20m. Backup plan nerf: fine. Replace it with another perk if you have to.

Only nerf I want is Backup Plan removed as an available perk. The trade off for higher range is charge time, and the audio cues allow smart players to bait bad fusion riflers. Backup Plan ruins both checks on fusion rifles by allowing fast charge time and therefore less audio cue to adjust to. No reason a max range Erentil should one shot be from a range where my pulse rifle is already experiencing damage falloff. Plus, I’d like to see a bit less damage per bolt, so you need to land one or two more bolts per charge to kill.

Fusion Rifles are fine. Shotgunners are just mad that they can't run in a straight line anymore.

I do prefer fighting shotgun apes over fusion gun monkeys. The range on fusion guns combined with backup plan is too much. I wouldn't mind if they reduced the range on fusion guns and a bit on shotguns too.

I get where you’re coming from, but it is also an unfair comparison, dust rock is just a really good shotgun but Erebtil is just straight up broken beyond belief

I get annoyed by shotguns just as much as anyone but Erentil is a whole different league. It’s the only fusion rifle that is practically a linear fusion rifle without being one.

22 RepliesYou realize that Erentil can secure a OHK at 30+ meters right? Shotguns have a OHK range of about 7. Even with a nerf, Erentil will still out-range most shotguns so there's no point in nerfing them.
