I love destiny & I did my very best to avoid the spoilers coming out of PAX in regards to the raid armor. I wanted to be fully surprised when I got my first raid armor drop & to see for myself how it would look. Reading the TWAB just now I do think the raid armor looks really great & I enjoy the light effects. However, once I scrolled to the Phenotype Plasticity armor set I felt like I was looking at armor that truly exemplifies what destiny is all about.
This armor is unique, plays on the alien schemes we really enjoy, shines, & immerses you into the world of destiny. The titan has a sweet looking arm blade, the hunter has a vex style leg, & the warlock has one of the best helmets & robes I've ever seen. The center of each chest armor has similarities to the vex, and those comparisons & similarities have been absent in the raid armor so far. This armor creates a true destiny feel as it works with components of the Destiny universe that are so unique to Destiny and only Destiny.
I do feel the team at Bungie is incredible & they make some great things for us that we definitely take for granted. I wanted to speak out & say something this time as the phenotype plasticity armor set is some of the best, or maybe even the best, armor in the entirety of Destiny's history & there should be a level of prestige & remembrance in obtaining it, instead of the cool story of how I bought it with bright dust.
*Update*
If the armor set is tied to season rank in a way that there is a level of prestige to having it, I'm all for it after seeing all the points people bring up. I think it'll add another piece of endgame to chase which I am excited about.
Am I happy that the raid armor is a reskin? Not at all. It should be unique & brand new but it does look nice & there have definitely been worse looking armor sets.

1 ReplyAs someone who doesn't raid nor particularly wants to raid/doesn't particularly care about raids I will agree on this point, that stuff is one of the best looking sets of armour out of those 6 we were shown and I kinda feel like if you raid you should get it for raiding and not be given what looks like season 2's EV set with some glowy stuff on it. Most of the raid armour in the game looks great, only ones out of all of them I was never keen on Eater of worlds or Spire of stars sets but OG Leviathan looks great but that's just me lol However that all being said I'm gonna be a tad selfish and say I'm glad as a non raider that it isn't the raid armour cause that means I can actually wear it lol.

Tons if stuff in this game is reskinned and kitbashed from other content. Part of the artests job is to reuse as much as possible in order to stick to deadlines and keep costs down. My guess is that they thought the community wouldn’t have an issue with it. For example: the warlock Menagerie robe is mostly a reskin of the Rise of Iron with different shoulder pads and nobody cared.

Theres definetely an argument to be made that the cool vex themed armour should have been the garden raid armour, but i think one thing to consider is that if they did in fact swap them wouldnt people just complain that the really cool vex armour drops from the raid and lets be honest, the amount of universal distain with the raid armour being a kinda reskin seems odd to me, mainly because only a minority of the community even raids at all, let alone raids enough to get full sets of armour, to be clear im not trying to be a bungie apologist but this strikes me as the community complaining just for the sake of it.

2 RepliesI actually don't care about the armors at all. I just want friggin' hoodless cloaks >:(

6 RepliesI think it's cool and smart that Phenotype is the pass rank reward. It'll help the game grow way more than if it was the raid reward.

1 ReplyI’m going to laugh when the new raid ends up being the lamest one yet. I think Bungie just figures why spend so much time on an activity less than 10% of people complete, let alone run more than a few times, when we can make content for the +90% which includes all the people willing to spend extra money? I’d like to see raiding take the back seat. They aren’t that great anyways. I wouldn’t hold my breathe for the weapons being that great either.

Edited by neonsox42: 9/7/2019 9:37:58 PMIt looks ugly. Aside for the Titan Gauntletsand some of the warlock stuff, it looks terrible. Despite the raid gear being a reskin, they turned some of the worst looking sets into something that looks amazing. The helmets with the lights in them are really cool and the dark, faded design looks really neat. This is how you do a reskin. Reskins aren’t great and I don’t condone them... if they aren’t done well. This is some of the best looking armor we’ve had in D2 and better than a good portion of D1 armor. Also, with the return of many other sets as 2.0, there are tons of options. The wildwood warlock chest and the Io Hunter Gear both are very nice looking designs I’ll be going after.

Why do that when you can make more money by putting cool cosmetics into microtransactions? Remember, people don't have to buy Shadowkeep to get access to the Premium Battle Pass or Eververse armor. Talk about money grab tactics 😂😂
-
These armor sets dont look all that great.
-
9 RepliesIn short, no D2 raid gear tops D1 Year 3 Raid Gear and Ornaments.
-
5 RepliesI try to vouch for bungo, but I am a little pissed that the coolest set is premium and the raid set is reskins. The raid set look cool for my warlock, but not I feel for the titans and hunters with that cool ass armor
-
2 RepliesShould they have? Yes! Why didn’t they? They probably didn’t want to put up with 5000 messages from “solo players” and people who refuse to play raids, complaining they can’t get the cool vex armor.
-
7 RepliesIt's fine for eververse to have good looking armor but it can't be the only source for it! They are slowly dumbing down armor that you earn while increasing the desirability of eververse looking armor so that eververse becomes the norm for aethetically pleasing gear.
-
3 RepliesDon’t exaggerate. All of their current content is utter trash money-grabs. Regarding the armour, yes, eververse armour should have been the raid armour obviously instead of the re-skin. In fact, there should be no eververse armour or eververse at all. We have already paid $500 to what basically amounts to a single game (D1 & D2 are pretty much the same in terms of reused assets, just sold separately as a scam), excluding eververse, that is half-assed, recycled, and monetised to hell. These scummy hacks will not rest until they scam us out of our very last penny, all while doing the absolute bare minimum in terms of content. Don’t accept mediocrity.
-
Surprise! Recycled content

1 ReplyThis season is just about pushing us back into the eververse. They backed off for 1 year but are back in full effect
-
4 Repliesthe new raid gear is just Omega Mechanos gear 2.0 - what a waste of an opportunity. I agree that the Phenotype or even the Empyrean sets should've been the new raid gear for they look fresh and exciting to obtain.
-
No one is talking about how the raid weapons are wet garbage?
-
4 RepliesWe all know why the best looking gear goes to eververse or now the battle pass instead of in game. Devs these days are all in on maximum greed for least investment

17 RepliesEdited by DeathPony07: 9/7/2019 1:45:33 AMBungie has to suck every cent out of their player base through microtransactions, because Forsaken sales tanked, and Activision peaced out. In D1, the raids had their own unique armor sets. They looked cool too. I don't know know what happened to those armor designers, but I wish they would come back. The amount of reskins in D2 is pathetic. Bungie used to take pride in their work. Now they don't even try, because "content is hard" or something.
-
29 RepliesAll of the sets looked cool. Even the moon one.
-
2 Repliesshould have been the raid armor, but sorry, imo the dark below armor is the best destiny has seen, this other armor is a very close second. black with green glowy stuff is nice.
-
2 RepliesAll the new armor looks great, stop it
-
I have never once in destiny 2 had gear I just rocked because it looked so good.
-
All new shadowkeep armor looks hidious and the eververse chrome is even worse.
