I'm working with a new guy, he is a trainee from another store. Trying my best to help him out. It's super slow, no customers.
So I tell him since it's slow I'm going to go into the back room and do the inventory count but to let me know if he needs anything.
20 minutes later, he asks if he can use the bathroom. So I say sure, stop the count and head out to the front counter to cover for him.
At the counter I see drink stickers, straws, and scissors and a little model car that he has been making from them. He comes back from the bathroom over 20 minutes later.
I ask what he had gotten done as far as making prep and cleaning that I assigned him, and he says he doesn't know how to do those things, so he was waiting for me to finish the count and show him how.
I grab different bags of ingredients and show him how it has the instructions on the bags, give him the booklet with the instructions, and tell him I'm gonna finish the count and if there is something he needs help with or doesn't know how to do, to come ask me.
Making the prep involves things like:
"Add 1 litre of water to a pitcher. Add chocolate powder. Stir with whisk. Add 1 more litre of water. Stir with whisk. Pour into container. Place expiration date on container. This product expires in 24 hours"
Other tasks I asked him to do were things like sweeping the floor, stocking straws, cleaning some basic stuff.
I finish the count and head back out to the front. His model car is finished, nothing is done. I sent him home.
Just had to rant for a minute. Hope your day is going well.

Who cares? It is just retail.
-
His creativity is being stifled by a worthless dead end job.

3 RepliesI feel your pain. I work in retail and I’ve encountered my fair share of lazy S.O.B’s, but this story really takes the cake. This is what happens when you raise children in a society where no one is allowed to spank them when they misbehave, they grow up to lazy and entitled.
-
Try working a UAW job. Laziest cry babies I've ever seen. "It's not in the contract so I don't have to do it". I lost a damn good job because of them, 3 years ago.

That’s actually a pretty darn good car!!

Guy is supposed to make chocolate milk. >Plays with Hot Wheels instead.

2 RepliesMeanwhile, people are arguing and demanding $15/hr at their minimum wage job.

5 RepliesYou should have fired his ass.

You were just jelly at his craft skills

Despite being a millenial i can't stand millenials. We have hired 4 over the last 3 years and all but 1 have been fired due to laziness, lack of motivation, bunking off work before the end of their 3 month trial and their attitudes once they were told they were fired was "oh well" I basically face palmed.
-
I think you made the right decision.

I work in medical manufacturing. Our young new hires fresh from STEM studies in college are super bright and motivated. The young people we get in more entry level, assembly work though are absolutely useless. Lazy, entitled, and incapable of accepting constructive criticism. If it wasn't for my work experience, I would have written Millennials off a long time ago. They're not all bad.

1 ReplyI know exactly how you feel,I have to deal with lazy ass workers as well who don't want to do anything but play on their phones or talk when there's work that needs done.
-
1 Reply... I can't tell you what to do, but i would've canned him...
not included in the DLC
I think I’d probably do the same if I was working with you.

2 RepliesI bet that model car was a 10 / 10 though, am I right?

1 ReplyPost a pic of the model car next time

3 RepliesHe doesn’t sound lazy he sounds demotivated to do things. You might wanna keep an eye on him. Something might be causing him to be that way.
-
1 ReplySo I'm curious, what you're gonna do with him now he's proven to be lazy? Retrain him, harshly warn him or.. Give him the boot?
