Bungie is too terrified of proper matchmaking that puts everybody on equal footing (like literally every modern competitive game in existence) because it would show off how small the playerbase is getting through huge queue times.

Just think if Bungie would only match full teams vs full teams. Epic clan battles, hard fought, friends on both sides giving their best. But we know how fast these "friendships" would be abandoned if there are no longer easy wins but only hard fights to get....
