You don't have to release the full game anymore and there's really no reason to make split screen because Developers won't sell more copies that way. The isolationist couch potato gamer is number one priority now. On top of that now they just water down games so people can feel accomplished basically doing nothing but walk around with a gun in their hand from point A to point B. This is why we have Destiny now as a fundamentally broken game. They chopped up the game dumbed it down and made the AI stupid on purpose while taking away half of the complexities and strategy that made the first one at least remotely interesting. This reminds me of what Disney did to Star Wars, it doesn't matter if it's sucks as long as it makes money. And I think that's the sad Truth at this point.
They didn't go full Battlefront but they chopped up the game with microtransactions and hidden throttling techniques to keep people playing just like a casino. Although, arguably, mods and perks are right there on the edge of a full on pay to win system. At this point they are just creating an industry of addicts who just like to see the Pretty Lights and don't have to think too much. The priority of developers now is not to make a good game a worthwhile product, it's to make enough hype, Flash and bang to maximize exitement so they can turn around and exploit as many players as possible. The more they can entice you to keep playing the more likely you are to spend money. This isn't just about asthectics anymore.

I agree... It’s all about who can trick consumers into spending more money now a days. My only hope is that Microtransactions will soon start to die out. I’m fine with paid content updates like an expansion for WoW, but lootboxes, cosmetics worth $4.99? No thanks. I was actually hoping lootboxes would get banned. It was close, but no cigar I’m afraid

You don't see, do you. We do it for player choice and those long grind times are meant to give you a sense of pride and accomplishment
-
Plenty of games that aren’t like that. You just need to look outside the games you normally play
-
Ding! Ding! Or is it... Choi! Choi!

Why don't you just boycott games that are half-assed? I skipped buying plenty of games and have zero regrets. NFS Payback, Shadow of War, Battlefront 2, and others didn't get a penny from me. "Wow, I doubt companies care about losing one sale." Probably, but if a million did the same, they would care. People who buy the games are the only reason this practice continues. Idc if you ignore the microtransactions. By giving any money to that developer, you support everything they do.

2 Replies(This is going to sound snarky and sarcastic, but please believe me when I say I do not mean it as such.) There are literally THOUSANDS of games from consoles dating 30 years back that I couldn't afford, couldn't find, or just never got around to playing while growing up. Quality gems on the NES, SNES, Genesis (and all its add-on systems), N64, Gamecube, Dreamcast, Playstations 1 & 2... the list goes on. Even if you can't find an emulator online for these games, tracking down the original consoles and cartridges (and at the point, a TV to play them on) isn't that difficult or expensive. Go play some of these games. Before internet connectivity was a given on modern systems, games had to be released polished enough to work without patches or balance updates or any of the other garbage that's broken Destiny. I'd rather play Final Fantasy I for the 100th time, with a new party makeup I haven't tried yet, than grind the same damn thing every week on Destiny 2 to get junk that will be either broken down immediately, or rendered worthless in the next "balance" update, or just left behind altogether with the next expansion.

Edited by shell: 4/12/2018 1:13:16 AMI mean, sure, the industry sucks, if you ignore all the amazing games. Ignore Breath of the Wild. Ignore Super Mario Odyssey. Nintendo doesn't exist. Ignore A Hat in Time and Celeste. Good indie games don't exist. Ignore The Witcher 3 and NieR: Automata. It's impossible for triple-A developers to care for their games. Stay away from these games. Just keep buying shitty products and complaining. You seem to enjoy it.

It always has been, even arcade games were made to keep u pumping in quarters.

1 ReplyI’ll just sit over here and play The Witcher 3, Monster Hunter World, Persona 5, Nier Automata and a selection of other games that are still awesome

Edited by SinisterSmile: 4/14/2018 1:34:13 AMYeah, that is basically Gaming as a service business model. Which is why they also require you to be online at all times otherwise you cannot have access to the game you bought. As immoral as that sounds, that is business and it is a sad thing to see. I fear that this is the future of the gaming industry and we will be seeing it happen a lot. I could be wrong, but who knows. Edit: can’t forget lootboxes and lootbox like micro transactions.

2 RepliesIt's garbage. People pointing out a handful of exceptions to what is a now an industry standard aren't taking into consideration hundreds, if not thousands of games come out every year. It's continuously getting worse and I'm steadily losing interest in gaming because I have my own standards and most games don't meet them.
-
How are you trying to blame the industry for something the customers did?
-
Cell phone games changed the gaming world.

5 RepliesIf you want it to change, then don’t support the companies that push for it. Amd by that, I don’t mean not to buy the lootboxes, I mean don’t buy their games. Period. And don’t try making exceptions to the rule, either. Don’t say “oh, you can get X amount of loot boxes without paying, so it’s fine”, don’t pick up the game. You can whine about it all you want, but if you tell Activision how scummy they are for having loot boxes, and then go buy the next CoD, well, you’re still a paying customer, and obviously the lootboxes didn’t stop you from buying. If enough people will actually stand up to this, then that dent in their wallets will start to make them think.

*Mechanical cough*
MHW
But yeah I see where your going with this. But you gotta remember that not ALL games have loot boxes and shit like that. Although it is in the majority of games......... Let’s just hope that it ends soon.
Tbh there’s no sign of it ending soon
-
7 RepliesOn pc maybe, but on console you can't make money off of games so your points invalid.
-
Well I'd say it's more aimed towards the casual... I mean with loot boxes and the ability to buy time savers... But then again games like ffxv have a decent amount of content to begin with (unless you solely blast through the story) and then they have dlc just to add extra story and more content and features in general. And games like Nier Automata, persona 5 and AC Origins don't actually need any dlc to be great games. Whatever they do have, actually makes the game better...
this is just my opinion but I don't think I'm too far from the truth...
4 Repliesthats enough.. I am sick and tired of people’s loot box drama and the game devs don’t care drama! It’s not that hard to show self control with loot boxes and believe it or not devs do care! You people just need to stop I’m sorry if you don’t have fun playing but there are people who actually like playing and don’t need drama! So if you want no loot boxes or anything else I recommend you go play an nes, snes, or Atari game. There’s plenty of ways to get some and if you don’t wanna get the TV or original console then get a collection of them online! I just had to get this of my chest!

Looks like someone didn’t get the skin they wanted
-
Maybe the game industry you’re interested in. I don’t see them a lot.
-
They wouldn't make games like this if people didn't spend money on them.....therefore its the gamers fault they are the way they are in the first place. It started with the first person to ever buy a digital item. That started the ball started rolling and it has morphed into what it is now. Tldr: its your fault!!
-
Don't like loot boxes then don't buy them. Simple.
-
Ahem....Monster Hunter World has no lootboxes. *Drops mic*
-
It's come full circle.
