Imho, non-game = non-canon. The rest is infinite forest glitches/"Vex Files".

    • The lore in D1 was more on par with what I was looking for. Mysterious, epic, dark. D2 is too quirky and trying too hard to be funny.

      • Not anymore. Once they fired the original writer it was just a matter of time before things would get bad. They have run out of his original content and now have to make up their own. (Not doing a very good job) That's why there is no more grimoire.

I used to be, a lot, but the total change of direction with D2's tone and writing have put me right off it. Now I just want more content simply due to still loving the game-bit, whereas I've totally fallen out of love with the universe it's set in. I'm not saying that D1 should have won heaps of awards for its writing or story, but man, it's way better than "LOL! vex milk xD", "Hey Hawthorne, we did it, now we're getting pie LOL! xD", or "Later, haters xD"; listening to and reading this drivel makes me feel like I'm in a Tumblr fever-dream Destiny-themed fanfiction as opposed to a piece of quality mythic sci-fi and as such, I've pretty much stopped caring about what's deeper than that shown at surface level, because the surface itself barely holds my interest, either. I liked Destiny more when every single thing wasn't just an excuse for the next quip and it took itself a little more seriously. They did an absolutely great job at having an actual campaign this time through, it's just a shame it was full of so much cringe and pushed the characters into the realm of caricatures.

          • Was interested in D1's lore, not so much in D2 because everything about D1 is just considered malarkey.

It would be amazing to have a phisical place INSIDE the game, like a library, with terminals and stuff where we can actually have access to the destiny lore which I think is really great.

            • The lore? Fxck yes. For those people looking for positive notes on Destiny? The lore has always been a positive. Always. Right up there with the other positives people list, the Art, the Gunplay, etc. The backstory is one of those things that is so good, it makes it hurt extra bad when the story is just meh. I used to read The Books of Sorrow on smoke breaks. Hell I'd even read the stuff on the Queen's War and stuff. The character races are awesome, their backstories are awesome. The whole thing with the Eliksni and how they used to follow the Traveler? The way the 3 sisters turned the race of the Hive into this sort of tiered force of "Only the Strongest" with Sword Logic? The Vex? The -blam!-ing Vex? And the whole perfecting the universe thing, with a race of cyborg networked creatures that time travel? Holy shit. I remember watching Myelin cover Golgoroth in the Kings Fall raid. He goes over the lore of Ogres, how they are made, how they are tortured with light. How the Wizards would peel the light off of guardians. I always wondered what those orbs on the ceiling were that you shoot, and why they give a buff. And why Golgoroth's challenge emblem was a spider or why he had spider legs on his back. Then Myelin combs the lore and starts to put together the whole "Orb Weaver Spider thing", how those orbs are the light of fallen guardians that he's stolen or whatever. And I was like, holy shitballs batman. Same thing with Warpriest. Ever wonder what sense it made to kill an add to hold that Aura open for DPS? The Warpriest is there not as an obstacle or an enemy to overcome, but also to put you to the test. Sword logic. You have to shed blood and prove that you are worthy to pass. It all ties back to the lore. But god fxcking damn it, it isn't in the fxcking game! Sure It's there for a loremaster to piece together. But why, WHY are they not tapping this stuff for the main story?? For side quests? How fxcking cool would it be for Eris Morn to send us on side quests that teach us about the Hive ways? A side quest that say, taught you to use that aura, to explain who the Warpriest was, What his purpose truly was. To understand why it's necessary to draw blood to deal him damage? Or how cool it would be to interrupt rituals where Hive Wizards are torturing thrall and warping them into Ogres? To see it! To be there with Eris as an NPC guide! To battle the Queenbreakers in a sniper battle in a canyon on Mars or Venus (already covered this one in another post) then win the exotic Sniper Rifle, the Queenbreakers Bow? How fxcking cool would that be? But it's not, in, the fxcking, game!! One of hundreds of missed opportunities. Sure there are some nice (sort of) additions with adventures where you find Failsafe's old crew, but it's just "go here, listen to Comm chatter about blah blah ship and blah blah crew". Why on earth would you not use the perfect foundation of the lore to enhance enemies, missions, activity structure like side quests and such, loot acquisition... fxck man. Yes. We love the lore. It's one of the reasons CoO was a letdown. Fxcking Osiris, the legend. And that's what he got? The Vex, and that's all they got? If you went off the lore alone, it could start to influence how other things in the game worked. Like fighting the actual no shit QueenBreakers, with names and personalities, and a specialized "sniper battle" in a canyon where you fight all 6 or 7 however many there were. And it being a hard ass mission at the end of several other side quests. And it rewarding you with the Queenbreakers Bow. You could put Cinematics in there, dialogue between NPCs and Enemies.... Fxck dude the potential was there, but instead each time we get "Something, Something, Something, Darkside... Sonething, Something, Something, Complete." ??? Like really? Bungie, you played through this shit and thought, "Yep, truly deep storytelling. Totally ties in with so much lore." Sigh. Rant over. Sorry. But that's just one example of something people had high hopes about, and love, but it's just like it's ignored. Fxcking epic potential with the lore, but we get a generic rise to glory story or no story at all really. C'mon man.

                    • Lore wouldn't fix the game. Especially when it never really mattered in the first place. A lot of people just liked having something to dig into, even if it didn't even really relate to the current game at all.

I would be if bungie did actually cared to put lore in game such as codex that you get and you can read it since bungie don't care why should I care listening to some youtubers is boring

                      • Never really gave a damn. I understand there may be a good story in there, but since so little of it was accessible in-game I never gave it much thought. Same with Destiny 2: just didn’t really care.

The lore around the Black Garden (dark tower), gunslingers, the Last Word (the gun of eld), Shin Malphur (the first gunslinger), and the light and dark (Ka) is the best, do ya ken?
