The "diverse weapon system?" You know what's diverse? Having a primary, a utility, and a heavy hitter. You know what's not diverse? Having two weapons with the exact same utility.
I was so hyped for this game, until I learned that shotguns are now heavy weapons, which pretty much kills the run and gun, auto rifle and shotty, high risk, high reward play style I loved in the first game. You know, auto rifle your way in taking out a yellow bar's shields, switch, take him down with a few blasts of your shotgun, switch to RL to mop up a cluster of mobs, then switch back to auto rifle. Rinse, repeat, and feel like a badass while the Hunters and Warlocks are taking potshots with their Scout Rifles.
SMGs are apparently the new close range secondary, though they're basically high fire rate auto rifles with less range and a movement buff. No substitute for a shotgun. So now, up close run and gunning has all the risks, but none of the rewards. You don't have any burst damage to take down medium targets like yellow bars.
Instead, we get two primary slots, even though all primaries are basically the same: mid range, aim for the head, the only difference is how often you press the trigger and the magnification when you aim down the sights.
And you'll never have shotgun or sniper ammo, and if you want a shotgun, you won't have a Rocket Launcher for bosses or crowd control.
Instead, you'll run around, spamming your primary... Until you run into a shielded enemy. Then you switch to your OTHER primary, kill their shields, then switch back. Except, more likely, the damage difference will be so negligible that you won't bother switching. You'll just use your primary for everything. You'll have to use a Sniper or RL, and save the ammo for that for hard targets and bosses.
Whoopee. Using one gun for 95% of the game. Sounds like a real fun and diverse time. I mean, Destiny isn't repetitive enough, right? Let's take away a third of your build! Such an improvement from the utility and fun of the first game. I wonder why they made such a design choice... It couldn't have ANYTHING to do with PvP, could it? Even though most of the game is PvE oriented?
God, I -blam!-ing hate it when PvP ruins PvE. This change is enough that I'm not going to preorder. I was prepared to hand them my money earlier today, but I found out that they're taking half the fun out of PvE. Glad I did.
If you think I'm exaggerating, watch some gameplay. A lot of the YouTubers seem to forget that they have a second weapon, instead using one for five, ten minutes at a time, then the other for five, ten minutes at a time. The two primaries are pretty much interchangeable. There's no situational changing of weapons, because they're pretty much exactly the same.

How are you not muted? Oh wait, fixed it!

4 RepliesPeople bitch because they changed things, while at the same time bitching because they didn't change things........... And yet the one thing overlooked, they haven't played it, and we haven't seen alot of gameplay from those who have.

1 ReplyI've always wanted a HC and a Scout at the same time, so I think this is going to be awesome.
-
28 RepliesPretty sure my Scout has a different utility than my Auto. Pretty sure my elemental Primaries have a utility of their own and my non-elementals have theirs as well.

5 RepliesHey look another noob that won't shut up about a game that hasn't come out yet.

1 ReplyMany streamers have noted the abundance of power ammo in both the crucible and PvE. Fusions, Shottys, and grenade launchers will all get ammo per kill proportionate to their total inventory. That means you will be able to use them more. Also having less dps options is ok. That means Bungie will have to design mechanics instead of just sticking a bullet sponge boss at the end. Strikes like Sepiks Perfected, Taniks Perfected, The Blighted Chalice, and the new Nexus Strike. Each has added an interesting mechanic that's simple enough. Yes you will have less firepower, but that just means Bungie will have to get creative (which I'm honestly not worried about). They have had a great creative track record at the end of D1. Give them a chance and they might surprise you.

4 RepliesI can believe I haven't muted you yet. Here's one ;-)

8 RepliesEmbrace change You'll enjoy life a lot more.

7 RepliesGet over it. Sooner you accept the change the better, that's if you actually get d2. If everything you've seen puts you off then don't buy it. Nobody is forcing you to play. New system just means you have to think about your loadout more. And until you actually play it you can't truly judge it.

1 ReplyEdited by AuroraUnit486: 6/17/2017 11:16:15 PMI didn't know that auto rifles had the exact same utility as scouts and pulses. Or that elemental damage is identical to non elemental damage. Huh.

Edited by Sixth Devil King: 6/18/2017 1:33:06 AMtbh theres no "more or less" the "diversity" stays the same. you can swap between 3 weapons, thats all. but if the game turns out to be good im looking forward to use a kinetic pulse, elemental auto rifle and a sword. maybe a grenade launcher.

Whoopee. Using one gun for 95% of the game. Sounds like a real fun and diverse time.
isnt that how the majority played pvp? shotgun and sniper only when special weapon was pretty much endless? people just seem to complain because they cant get their oneshots now and need to use a primary for once. srsly, you guys complain about stuff that already happend in destiny 1.
10 RepliesThe new weapon system looks really good. What you on about.

Not ONE MoT completed....opinion invalidated.
-
15 RepliesI haven't fully formed my opinion on the weapons available as yet but am fearful that we still won't be really customizing them. I hate those random (mostly useless) weapon perks and will not be interested in the artificial grind playing the RNG roulette wheel again.

7 RepliesYeah, diverse. You have a variety of choices you didn't have before. Run a scout for long-range, with an SMG for close quarters. Or auto + pulse if you plan to keep every engagement at mid-range. Auto rifle for wearing down shields, hand cannon for finishing shots. I came up with that in 3 minutes without even laying hands on the game. And I haven't even considered the 1-shot power weapons. It's a new game. You can't expect it to be D1.

Edited by Eververse: 6/17/2017 5:45:15 PMI like the system we have in destiny. If they had just added the ability to equip all exotics and changed the look of the menu in d2 I would have been overhyped. Here is what I wanted: Pvp and pve balanced apart ToO pvp to be it's own thing ToO and iron banner pve Something better that ingame clan system. Ingame lfg maybe Social space/ planet chat( there is none, in before "try it first".....there is none) BEARDS!!!!! Added subclasses, wind, rock, water etc Everything's infusible Limitless leveling Removal of the weekly resets (-blam!- you, it's what I wanted, make you own list) Omm/solo friendly egc (again, -blam!- you I'm a lone wolf) Shaders can be placed on any gun Emote wheel/replace default emote Hold d pad to pop synths 6v6!!!!!! 6 man patrols Bots in the private matches I would have been sold, would have got like two copies, and would have told everyone asking me about it to buy. My number one thing was online optional(-blam!- you again), but I wouldn't care about that if they had added this list.
Again, -blam!- you make your own wish list if you don't like this one.

im ready to be attacked
There's no situational changing of weapons, because they're pretty much exactly the same.
I think this weapon system is great, it solves a lot of problems Destiny 1 had in PvP and in PvE. I don't think this a PvP focused change. If it was, why does the energy weapon have elements? Energy and kinetic weapons don't mix. For example, a hand cannon that drops as a kinetic can't drop as an energy and vise versa. This new system works in spreading out gunplay in both PvE and PvP. We won't have two really high DPS weapon slots in PvE, but DPS is only a part of the PvE experience. My only concern about energy weapons in PvE is that enemy shields are still really weak, which defeats the purpose of an elemental primary slot. Here's what I have to say about people forgetting to use their two primary slots, no one is used to having two primaries, we've only ever had one. It's going to take time to adapt to the way this weapon system works in PvP, and when it does I think PvP is going to hit the mark its been trying to hit. I love the idea of holding a scout rifle as a primary and a hand cannon as a energy, so I can have two primaries for different ranges that both rely on Precision damage.

6 RepliesI'm looking forward to the change for PvE most of all, but I can't deny running around with a scout and a hand cannon in PvP is going to be really fun.
-
12 RepliesHave you played it? No. So just shush until you have. Datto and the rest seem very happy with the change and they've actually played the game.
-
1 ReplyHonestly it looks worse than D1
-
Edited by blades of honor: 6/17/2017 3:15:14 PMI feel like this change was mainly for pvp "balance" & the pve mains will not be happy about it after a few hrs of play. Who the hell would pick a shotgun over a heavy machine gun or a sniper over a rocket launcher? Barely anyone
-
3 RepliesI'm just worried about everyone camping for Power ammo and I would assume that more people will be using rockets if they're still as good as they are in D1.

15 RepliesThe new weapon system is perfect. Also, fun fact, technically it's the old weapon system.
