Like if you think D2 won't be half bad

Let's get this out of the way. I don't support some of the desisions made for D2
P2P
But I'm giving Bungie the benefit of the doubt. The game looks good. The gunplay still looks smooth af even at 30fps. PvP is primary based supported by abilities and power weapons, so it won't be a fest of OHK weapons and abilities. I'm crossing my fingers that there's a good story. I hope Ghual is just as badass as Oryx was in Regicide. I hope most exotics come from adventure quests to make it feel like a proper RPG. Most of all I just hope people won't as toxic then. Give the game a chance. If you don't like it remember GameStop a return policy. If the game turns out to be trash in the beta than we can all whine about it together. Just my little rant.

  • The only thing I'm truly concerned about is whether or not they've learnt their lesson about proper DLC pricing, $20 for five vapid story missions and one broken raid is not a good thing.

    • It will not It will be 100% bad they transformed my favorite game into a complete useless lazy and laggy shooter, easy raids and easy loot No more rewards for doing hard stuff and no more fun in crucible I'm sure that if the fresh start of D2 look like the actual D1, D2 will not survive more than months Until they release another dlc so pve players feel special

This is from this weeks TWAB. Matt: Every activity in Destiny 2 is hosted by one of our servers. That means you will never again suffer a host migration during your Raid attempt or Trials match. This differs from Destiny 1, where these hosting duties were performed by player consoles and only script and mission logic ran in the data center. To understand the foundation on which we’re building, check out this Destiny 1 presentation from GDC. Using the terms from this talk, in Destiny 2, both the Mission Host and Physics Host will run in our data centers. Wait, so we do have dedicated servers? Matt: We don't use that term, because in the gaming community, “dedicated servers” refers to pure client-server networking models. Destiny 2 uses a hybrid of client-server and peer-to-peer technology, just like Destiny 1. The server is authoritative over how the game progresses, and each player is authoritative over their own movement and abilities. This allows us to give players the feeling of immediacy in all their moving and shooting – no matter where they live and no matter whom they choose to play with. Why peer-to-peer? Are we trying to save money? Matt: Nope! We've invested heavily in new server infrastructure for Destiny 2, including using cloud servers for gameplay for the first time. We really believe this is the best model for all of Destiny 2's varied cooperative and competitive experiences. Engineering will always involve tradeoffs and cost-benefit analysis, but as a team we’ve got no regrets about the unique technology we’ve built for Destiny 2. With Destiny 2 coming out on PC, does peer-to-peer networking put players at risk of being cheated? Matt: The PC platform poses unique security challenges for Destiny 2, but our security Ninjas have spent several years building a plan for how to engage with this new and vibrant community. We have a variety of top-secret strategies to ensure that the life of a cheater in Destiny 2 PC will be nasty, brutish, and short. And, regardless of what platform you play on, all changes to your persistent character are communicated directly to our secure data center with no peer-to-peer interference. Does this mean I’ll never see a player warp around the map or shoot me through a wall again? Matt: We think those controller-throwing lag-induced moments will be reduced for Destiny 2, but we can't promise they’ll be eliminated. Fundamentally, we are trying to strike a balance between three hard problems: (1) make the game feel responsive, (2) make the game accessible to players all over the world, and (3) make the game fair for all. We’ll continue to refine that balance as players engage with the Crucible in Destiny 2. So what can we expect at launch? Matt: We have a Beta coming up this summer that will be the first chance for players to get their hands on Destiny 2 and kick the tires on its networking. We have spent a bunch of time working on matchmaking, latency, and responsiveness, and we feel pretty good about it. As with everything we do, we'll be monitoring the situation after launch and reacting to the community's feedback.

Yea I think I'll like it. I'm not that demanding of a gamer. Give me a good story, some cool looking shit to collect and use, and give me fresh, varied content on a consistent basis and I'm a happy guy. If the pvp is fun I'll play it. If it's broken I'll simply skip it. There are other very good pvp games out there, no sense in wasting time in a broken one. All this dedicated server and 60fps vs 30fps stuff has never mattered to me, ever in any game. I played on a damn Gameboy for over a decade, I can handle 30fps on my big screen. I've been playing online multiplayer games for over a decade, I've learned how to deal with lag. I just don't let it bother me. I'm a chill dude who plays videogames for fun, I don't let them stress me out. I just stop playing, and move on to the other 8+ games in my back-log that I havnt even completed 50% of lol So far, destiny 2 looks like it is delivering on most of my wants. I think I'll get my money's worth.

      • I made a post over a year ago on the things I felt needed improvement. The lack of a substantive and cohesive story was perhaps my biggest gripe with the game. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/168307226?page=0&sort=0&showBanned=0&path=1 Turns out Destiny 2, at least ostensibly thus far, addresses most of my complaints. I even specifically mentioned that the Vanguard leaders should be developed more.
Characters like Zavala, Cayde, and Ikora could be a lot more than what they are currently. As someone who's just stepped in, they all just seem like empty entities who's sole purpose is distributing a few quests and wares. .... Content which showed us why characters like Zavala, Cayde, or Ikora came to be in the Vanguard, could do a lot to draw people into the game on a deeper level, and to make the game about more than simply murdering things and stealing stuff from their bodies.
And it seems that's exactly what they're doing in this installment. I can't recall the devs of any previous game I played addressing my concerns so comprehensively. So even if it ends up not being everything I could hope for, it's pretty clear the Developers at least made a genuine effort to make improvements. So I really can't complain. I'll be awaiting future reveals to see what more they have in store before I purchase though.

      • Aye, looking forward to it but afraid it'll get old real quick seing as we've technically done it all before. Wont hold my breath for crucible being any better though. Tired of those lies.

        • I avoided (so far) any of the reveals but I plan to get it nonetheless . I put a fair amount of time into the first game (more so than any other title to date). While I can always find something that I would have liked to see different in ANY title I play I still believe I'm buying someone else's creation and tend to see if I enjoy what they envision and brought to life. I've bought plenty of lemons out there and even so just chalked it up to a bad title and moved on. In the case of Destiny 2 I feel regardless I'll have an enjoyable experience. I've found that gaming of late is ruined more by the anonymous participants you encounter online than the game itself. This is unfortunate because the design of the game relies heavily on community. Just my two cents worth.

        • My thoughts.... If you played D1, liked it despite its flaws, had good times with friends and what not. Get it. Don't get it... if you think 30 fps is trash, wanted dedicated servers, hate the new weapon layout..... etc..etc... Those things are out of your control and will not change. My fireteam will be there to enjoy all future shenanigans of D2.

          • I dunno I'm a huge fan of this game but since the reveal I'm grown less excited. Like an article I just read said, it seems like there taking things away just for the sake of doing so to grab New players. I HATE the new loadout screen, hate the whole two primary weapons. 4 v 4 is a joke and the supers don't impress me except warlock. Don't get me wrong I love the new warlock super. But I just deleted my second warlock to create a titan because every raid needs a bubble. So with bubble gone there is no reason I need a titan. I wish I still had two warlocks.

          • I'm excited for D2, but also wary. I won't really be able to get a feel for what D2 is like until the beta and I will be reserving most judgments about the game until then.
