F***ing sick of sidearms

I'm trying not to use one but seriously what's the point. They are superior to any primary except scouts, hence scouts fast becoming the meta. But that doesn't make the rest balanced. Sidearms are quite literally the lowest skill weapon you've ever placed in this game. It's no different at all to when Last Word was utterly broken, except sidearms are even more accessible. Airborne accuracy? Not problem, just face vaguely forward and you'll get 100% headshots anyway. The ammo makes it worse. But come on Bungie, you've already identified in your own weekly notes that sidearms and NLB are overpowered right now, so where's the fix? Crucible is a joke at the moment. Just take a look at the stats on Destiny Tracker where sidearms are outperforming everything in the entire game. AS OF RIGHT NOW, WORMWOOD ACCOUNTS FOR 10% OF ALL PVP KILLS. That's just one f***ing sidearm. Never mind the rest. One gun is responsible for a tenth of all the kills in pvp. The reason sidearms are overpowered is that they have no real weakness, and can be used as a primary weapon. They were meant to be a reactive weapon to suddenly save you and get you out of a tight spot. But that isn't what they are being used for at all. They are being used to roam the map, and they can go head to head with any primary. They are "bad" at long range but when we say bad we really mean worse. The fact is that you can still comfortably use a sidearm at pulse rifle range, and whilst you might not get a 0.6 second kill, you might get a 1.5 second kill instead. The problem is that they excel at short range, are good at medium range, and aren't a complete joke to use at long range. There are better choices for long range by far, but you can *still* aim a sidearm and bag a kill if you catch your opponent off guard. Add to the fact that they require zero skill to use because of the max stability, very high target acquisition, and free ammo, and that's why it's getting the use it is.

  • Though I agree with your title, the rest of the post is flawed. Sidearms are more abundant now because the poorly implemented special ammo nerf, but they are not any more powerful than before. In fact, if you look at stats, Vestian Dynasty (from HoW) is superior to Wormwood. These posts are exactly the reason things get nerfed. For once, I'd like to see the annoyance with a meta translated into a buff for those things anti-meta, not a nerf for the meta. I mean, we are seriously at the point of nerfing No Land Beyond. That is where nerfs have gotten us. The Wormwood is the most used sidearm not because it is too powerful, but because its vendor roll is good and it is easy to get. As for Scouts being the only competitive primary to sidearms...that is just nonsense and purely situational. Handcannons are still the most used primary and both handcannons and pulses can outrange sidearms. How do you figure sidearms are low skill? Is it because of the frequency of times you die to them? or because that is what a lot of people are using? I remember a time...way way way back in the day...when Matador 64 was called the cheesiest, no skill special weapon in the game. It might be tough to remember longer than a month ago though. Never recall sidearms being complained about when shotguns were king. And they didn't get a single direct buff. But, now that you nerfbabies cried about shotguns so much, sidearms are indirectly buffed due to their intrinsic ammo retention and are magically
literally the lowest skill weapon you've ever placed in this game
You guys are absolutely ridiculous.

      • At close distance, they are superior. They are special weapons, so they really should be better. But, they keep ammo, which makes them the best choice for specials.

      • Seriously...sidearms aren't OP. It's all a matter of perspective, you perceive them as being OP because you die by them alot. And that's purely because of the special ammo economy. I guarantee you if they changed the special ammo back to how it was that you would see very little sidearms compared to a overwhelming resurgence of shotguns.

        • It IS a fast firing gun, keep that in mind. It's like whining about how much damage a shotgun does to you when you are up close and personal.

            • Less special means a more passive meta. Simple as that. Special allows you to push more often. People may not think it is the case, but having sniper cover mixed with shotgunners allows for a push since that's what a lot of guardians favor. Toss in one or two teammates with primaries and you have a well rounded push that's hard to beat as long as everyone is somewhat skillful. You have all ranges covered. That loss of special upon death was a middle finger to our best snipers and best shotgunners because they allowed the pushes. What they couldn't kill outright, my primary would finish the job. Likewise, when I chose to shotgun rush (not a good sniper, too impatient), they would clean up what I sacrificed myself to damage. The problem is that our PvP (aside from the fact our PvE and PvP system is one) is based around balance in Trials of Osiris. Now, I'm not dogging Trials by any means. 3v3 Elim is a VERY tough game mode to play. There are just too many variables to balance in Destiny for it to be acceptable as high tier PvP. Combine that with people who aren't as skilled at PvP, each patch leaving clear advantages, with the bravado of guardians and you have a recipe for PvP dictated by what Bungie's math failed to keep in check after every patch. At that point, you're either highly skilled and able to counter plays with any setup, you're stuck abusing the meta advantages to the point everyone is sick of seeing it, or you're not good enough and losing and the community cries for nerfs/changes regardless of which of the 3 categories you belong to. Tl;Dr Too many variables. Sometimes tons of weapons ISN'T a good thing.

                  • I stopped playing crucible long ago not only because lag and abused meta BS but they keep messing with everything. Hopefully destiny 2 has dedicated servers, standard loadout for everyone in pvp, and maybe a gametype with all powers and usual loadout equipped like iron banner. There was so much less whining back in halo 3 when everyone had the same guns for pvp and bungie didnt try to force us to use certain weapons to try to battle whatever weapon they felt like overpowering.

                  • The thought that sidearms take less skills than a SCATTER weapon (shotgun) automatically labels you as a person that needs some help. None of your points are correct. As someone who has used sidearms since they came out in HOW your view that sidearms are overpowered is wrong. I like the ammo change that is coming with it as I've never had a problem finding ammo. Other weapons have simply been pulled in line. The changes are coming when moments of triumph drops, that's how they always do these, I would imagine it's an efficiency thing.

                  • To much complaining and nerfing... one day we will be playing crucible, iron banner and trials with a deck of cards... I only do Iron Banner and sometimes jump on the Crucible for fun or do quests, I use any type of weapons but my main one if I want to get a bit more serious is a Does Not Bow with focused fire, hand loaded and third eye, it's an auto riffle that I been using since HoW and it does very well against all other weapons. Then i'll see what I want to use for special and heavy. Last iron banner was using Does not Bow, Telesto and Silvered dread. I think I did ok, managing to get top 3 many times. Also used trespasser a shotgun and sidearm one round or another. I used hand cannons and NLB with side arms before, they were not overpowered then... they were considered a joke. NLB takes a lot of practice to use, it's not like you equip it and go 5.0 KD I know my KD is low fell free to look at my stats for the last IB and make fun of them but like I said before I go weeks without doing crucible, i'm mainly pve so I don't have the same experience and knowledge like many of you out there that play Crucible on a daily basis I also like to use my three Toons and classes so I don't specialise in any of them. One thing is true, if you are good you are good and can kill with shotgun or side arm it doesn't matter, If you ask for a Nerf because you get killed by this or by that then you are not good at all because you can't turn the situation around by yourself so you cry to get attention and have all the work done for you. At the end of the day it's a player skill that counts, if your good just using shotguns for example and can't get your KD higher because you don't have your shotgun then you are not that good because you can't adapt. just my opinion for all that is worth

                  • The problem isn't the sidearm itself - It's a reaction to the special ammo nerf and most players not willing to be without at the start of each new life. At least you can duel with sidearms, right?
