Simple. Usually, a Thrall is (almost) a one shot. If you used an pulse or an auto rifle, it is possible that you damaged one without killing it. Then, the Thrall probably got a misadventure (a lamp, friendly fire or just falling into the Abyss). Maybe 10 Thrall died with a lamp explosion, but only the one you shot counted as an assist.

Sometimes there is friendly fire but it's so minimum
