Was I wrong?

This is not a short story but I've been thinking about it ever since and I just need to know if it was my fault. If you don't have the time to read then sorry I guess? I've been known to not have a filter when I joke so I say some rude thinks and piss people off. I never mean to harm anyone but if it happens I do say sorry. Not to be nice, I just want them to shut up. Months ago I joined a clan in Warframe that was pretty f*cking cool. The people were nice and the rules weren't so bad. About a moth in there was an argument in the can chat between two guys about whatever and I was instigating it. I was bored! So when an officer stepped in I said "Oh shit, here comes Mr. Digdickswinging." But I was joking and I thought it was obvious because everyone had a good laugh. Everyone but the officer. He told me to stop and I did. I don't care what anyone say about me, there are two things I believe in: Honesty and respecting authority. So months go by and I keep going on with my jokes. Everyone laughed and knew I was just joking. Everyone except for the four horsemen (officers) of course. One day I was complaining about the PvP in warframe and said that I made a list of changes I would make. Death says "To who?" I replied "Myself. F*ck you, don't judge me." This pissed him off and he warned me "Say that to me one more time." I backed off immediately and tried to explain that I was just joking and that everyone knew I was joking. Another clan mate stepped in to agree with me telling Death "Yeah he does. With all of us." I was kicked from chat for a day and demoted to the lowest rank possible. I freaked saying I did nothing wrong and that I wanted to talk to the horsemen. Finally they invited me to a party where I was told that they have had it with my jokes and that I was being disrespectful. Again I tried to talk to them to explain that everyone in the clan knew I was joking and I was never told that I was offending anyone by clan mates. But they told me that I was on my last warning and I wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for my honesty. Famine got suspicious of my age because I have a young voice. He demanded to see my ID because this was a 17+ clan. So with my new knowledge of that I was close to being kicked I became a perfect little angel. I was kind, helpful, respectful, etc. But my clan mates were not. They were being smartasses and just plain rude to me every damn day. Did a horseman come to my defense? No. Did they receive warnings? Of course not. I had to sit there an be bitched by clan mates and I knew if I said one little thing out of line I was getting the boot. These were people I helped in quest or farming or spent time Googling answers to their questions. This one girl joins the clan and is so rude to me. She'll jump in my conversations with an attitude and try to make me look bad. Then this guy that I thought was cool is the biggest smartass I've ever met. So one day I'm talking to a guy named Squirrel. We met in clan chat and were just chilling. The Lady and the Tramp come right on cue and start being assholes. The girl and Squirrel start arguing and I realized that this wasn't worth it. Why should I roll over and be the horsemen's bitch if they won't even defend me against my own clan mates. So I cheered Squirrel on in the clan chat and got a swift kick out of the clan. But I said "F*ck you bitch" right before I did.

  • Piece of advice. Join a clan that treats everyone equally first of all. One that doesn't use a dumb ranking system horseman, sargent, major. I prefer a clan that is laid back. You simply are either in or out, none of that "oh I'm second lieutenant in the clan!" bullcrap.

  • Its okay to have your fun in a game, but you gotta learn where to draw the line. Even though a lot of your clanmates thought the joking was funny, the higher-ups didnt. It seems they wanted a friendly clan, and a self-proclaimed instigator such as yourself is the last thing they want. Although a lot of the clan liked it, the people with power didnt, and theyre not the ones you wanna mess with.

  • Jokes are funny....but not when they're always directed and at someone elses expense. It's preference. I can tell you that some people would have a blast playing with you. Others, you'd rub the wrong way or seem annoying to. So find like minded people.

    • Being crass and super sarcastic online, even in jest, is a dangerous business. Not everyone will appreciate the joke, and it's really only the ones who get offended that you have to worry about. But considering that, according to your story, you changed your behavior but found that you were not being given same respect expected from you, I'd say leaving was the right choice. Though I would have just left, as opposed to triggering the leaders to kick you out. Sounds like the leaders had it out for you no matter what, maybe due to the way you had joked around before, and were holding grudges.

    • Lmfao gaming clans are hilarious. I think some just need it to feel authority in their lives. It's just kids bossing other kids around or adults with crappy jobs trying to make themselves feel good. Unless u were making profit in that clsn, who cares.

        • Clearly you were the only one laughing at your jokes if your entire clan began punking you on the daily. I get it, you apologize when you have to, not because you mean it, but so they'll shut up. I do the same when someone tells a lame ass joke... I'll laugh to get them to shut up, which is probably what your clan mates were doing with you in the beginning.

              • Your first phrase wasn't really a big deal but in all honesty the second phrase was a little overboard. I totally get that you listen to and respect authority but those officers probably get those same words from people who don't. Then, with their new miscommunication they labeled you as someone undesirable which led them to be lax towards other people saying that crap to you (which is something a person of authority shouldn't do). Then they just waited for an excuse to kick you. Conclusion: I won't pretend to know exactly what happened but it sounds like you just made an honest mistake in judging their standards, as long as what you are saying about being sorry and stopping is true, and they misjudged you. It's alright. In a chat room with people you don't really know, stuff like that can happen. Just don't get too worked up about it.

                • Ehh, it's just something to keep in mind for the future. For me as a guy used to MMO guilds and PC game servers with admins, the first rule I always follow in any clan or setup where people have administrative powers is to get a feel for who they are and what their sense of humor is like. If you make a bad impression because they're the kind of person who either naturally takes things seriously or wants to be responsible for their position and monitor things, correcting that needs to be the top thing on your to-do list and you have to make sure it's clear between everybody, not just you and them, that you don't mean anything bad and nobody has a problem with it. If anyone does, make a note not to target them in the worse jokes or talk to them in a way that won't cause conflict. Not everyone's going to like you and you can't know how they feel about what you say unless they tell you, so it's best to nip that kind of thing in the bud so you can get comfortable and stay on good terms. As a general rule, I'd keep officers on that list until you know they're friendly and comfortable with you, and even then it's something to be careful about. As for the people who were bothering you and started the fight you got kicked out for, always go to the people in charge about that even if they're angry with you. That's the best way to find out if they're trying to do their jobs or seriously hate you, and that'll make the whole situation much easier to deal with. If it's not personal, you'll know that and it won't be hard to act normal and get comfortable again both for yourself and them. If they have a grudge, you can go to the person above them about it and provide proof that you approached the officers first and they didn't do anything if necessary, taking away their power to just do whatever they like to you. If there's nobody above them or the person above is friendly enough with them to take their side arbitrarily despite evidence, the clan isn't right for you and you should advise anyone you're friends with to get out and find a better one. Just my thoughts on the situation, and some stuff to keep in mind for the future.

                  • Man. Only thing i found you being in the wrong was staying in a clan full of sensitive ass people. My friends and I do nothing but talk shit to each other but we know we're joking. Sadly not everyone is like this. If someone disrespects me I'm gonna do the same back to them, your admins or whatever are clearly asshats

Yeah, you were in the wrong. You were in the wrong for bringing up Warframes PvP. Devs have said time and again that it is never and will never be a priority. They only added it to shut a handful of people up but they told them not to expect anything more. And your whole post is the reason I don't group with anyone outside of my friends (the friends i've grown up with, not "e-friends") and I never join random clans/guilds/free companies/whatever they call them in any given game. I can't be bothered with peoples bullshit. So many folk bring drama into games and I game to relax not listen to them bitch and complain.

There are a lot of variables you can't account for when you're in a clan. Some of your clanmates may not have been ok with your jokes like you thought. They could have directly contacted the horsemen to complain about your behavior, which is what caused them to watch you in the first place. It doesn't seem like you tried to contact the horsemen with your issue about lady and the tramp so they would have no reason to step in. They could have assume that those 2 were just joking with you. Or the horsemen were abusing their power because they don't like you.
