The 46 year old man after struggling with a cop already, and allegedly pulled out a 8 inch knife and and proceeded to approach the cop"menacingly"
"The cop started crying immediately," Anthony Tessitore, 27, told local news site DNAinfo. "You could tell he was remorseful for what he had done." Tessitore was on his way to work when the shooting happened.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The wounded bystander, who was hit in the wrist, and one officer were transported to Bellevue Hospital for treatment.

8 RepliesEdited by Stickman Al: 5/21/2016 12:49:47 PMIt would suck to be the innocent bystander. A possibly life changing injury through the cop's error would be hard to deal with. I would have thought a non lethal weapon would be much more suitable. Firing a gun in a place where innocent bystanders can get hit is pretty irresponsible. Don't they give cops tasers over there?

6 RepliesThis man should never have been a cop, along with all the other cops who shoot first and ask questions later.

8 RepliesMy thoughts: A cop killed a dude trying to kill him. Oh no.

1 ReplyAn article where a cop shoots someone for a reason? Dear lord am I high?
wort
He accidentally shot someone, that's fair game, it's when they shoot an unarmed person 7 times and plant a taser that the issue comes

People forget that cops are just people doing a job. It's a difficult job and certainly not for everyone - many can't take the stress or otherwise aren't cut out for it - but to have worn the badge means having passed the entrance, including the psych evaluation. It's when shit gets real that people can make mistakes, no matter how well prepped they believe themselves to be or how well trained. Are these incidents unfortunate? Yes. Yes they are. My sympathies go out to the cop and his family just as much as those of the bystander. Blame lies with the guy wielding the knife. Don't agree? Think you could have done better in that situation? Don't speak - do. Go prove it. Go into law enforcement.

18 RepliesHow far away was he standing ? 9 shots to take a guy down is a bit much

2 RepliesHm... nothing about race in the article. That's a step in the right direction. Another school of though says this is a ploy to demonstrate officers have feelings and paint them in a more positive light.

2 RepliesKilling someone isn't a pleasurable experience......unless you're a psychopath.

Apparently people on here think they know everything that the cop should have done and how he was supposed to do it. Plz don't criticize until u have been through the situation yourself

1 ReplyThat doesn't look 8 inches. I thought you classified knives length by the blade not the whole thing.

7 Replies"The mans not black so there clearly was not a problem here." Every liberal ever.

Whatever happened with that cop that shot into a crowd and wounded multiple civilians?

2 Replies *puts on a puzzled disposition* It's nice to see a report that shows the human side of the officers rather than demonizing them.
But what's with the cuffs? Do they cuff them just in case they're not dead?
NYPD? crying about wronging somebody? that's a real first. a couple years ago, they tried to shoot one guy who was a successful murder-suicide(got laid off, then killed his boss and then himself with his illegal 1911) and hit 9 innocent people and were just like "job well done" and ""we're proud to not have to touch a gun for training more than just 2 hours a year". they're popular in hollywood but majorly incompetent in the real world.

1 ReplyI go to school two blocks away from where this happened. I heard the gun shots while walking to school. It's Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis by the way if anyone was wondering
