PvP has, once again, ruined another update. To balance PvP, you unbalance PvE. You punish people for using the very things you create for them to use. If people want to use something let them use it the way they want.
Video games are supposed to be fun:
In this video game when you make something weaker it is not as fun. It's more fun to be strong, that's just the way it is, at least in destiny. Instead of bringing classes down to a level, try making the underpowered classes stronger and thereby more fun to play with. Also if something is the way is it's because that's its nature. It's the nature of a hunter to be fast and agile, it's the nature of a warlock to be powerful, it's the nature of a Titan to be physically stronger. That's the way you created these classes. Same goes for guns. You are punishing players because they use the full potential of each class according to its nature.
Your reasoning for not separating the mechanics of the two game modes is also, I believe, illogical. PvE IS different from PvP. When you make a change in one it affects the other that's just the way it is. There can never be true balance between these two modes because they are different. Every time you try to balance one you unbalance the other. These two game modes need to be separated because they are different. Keep the basic mechanics the same in both modes, just alter the power output. You already alter our health and damage output on weapons so it shouldn't be that hard to alter the power output of classes. If you want to make supers weaker in PVP then do so, but make it to where it doesn't affect PvE. We actually need that power in PvE. You said that you want us to be able to have the same muscle memory for all gameplay, altering length and power output for just one mode will not affect us that much. We will adapt. PvP is already a different experience in gameplay, a little adaptation to switching between power differences shouldn't be that hard for us to get used to.
PvE IS the game. PvP is an additional game mode. An extra mode. The main part of destiny is playing the actual game, not against other players. PvP, more specifically PvPers, destroy games. Saving the Galaxy through strikes, night falls, raids, story's, etc. That's the game. Yet you listen only to the PvPers. You alter the gameplay for PvP. You NERF and buff for PvP. Again, for the most part you listen only to PvPers.
I wrote this in anger so I know that I probably didn't think everything through properly, but I believe that most of it rings true for many of us. I will update destiny when it comes and test out the changes. If warlock is as useless as Titans are now then I will quit. Not that anyone cares, but BUNGIE, you ought to care. Because I really like destiny. But if it's no longer any fun. I will move on.
Guardian Out.

Thing is they can keep them together and separate at the same time, to a degree. I'm going to be very specific, but there are many valid points (and etc.); ammo. In a patch/weapon tuning in year one (can't remember which annoyingly) they decreased starting ammo for all special weapons for PvP only, showing they can separate the two on ammo. This can be further show this with the fact they can decrease the amount of ammo given by special and/or heavy ammo boxes in PvP. The point here is that the nerf to the inventory ammo of machine guns and all specials bar sidearms is a punishment to PvE (yes they say special will drop more, but have not said heavy will, and this increase in ammo drop is rendered mute in most situations you need that ammo reserve (raid bosses, encounters where your pinned, etc.). In addition, the nerf to the machine gun ammo increase perk on armour has no excuse to be affecting PvE, as they have shown with Touch of Malice, they can change perk effects depending on whether it is used in PvP or PvE (I believe this was shown in a Planet Destiny review on the weapon, where the signature perk affected damage differently in PvP than PvE). In short: keep everything handling the same (so to speak), but they need a separation in terms of ammo and perk effects. Or ruin everything that is fun until there is nothing left but a desolate void of stress and limp, pathetic gear that makes you question your life choices by playing this once enjoyable game (note: some bits are still fun, but it begs the question when the most fun thing since The Taken King came out (including itself) had been sparrow racing league and the festival of the lost) I don't want to be negative, especially since I have been so excited for the new stuff, and when watching the stream, but this 'balancing' PvP by nerfing PvE of it's fun is counter to everything this game stands for. I play mostly PvP, but I would rather have fun PvE any day. What we need is respect for PvP players and PvE players. Bungie, I know you're trying, and I like and respect that, and I like destiny, so please do not take this the wrong way. You are communicating so much better (this is seriously good, keep it up), and the updating Prison of Elders was something very much wanted (by me). Just, if it is possible, stop crushing the soul out of my PvE weapons/gear/classes/abilities. Seriously, I feel less a Guardian of the last safe city, wielder of the Traveler's Light, and more like Bad Luck Brian ...oh, Deej, I almost forgot, where can I get some of that secret recipe, patented, room temperature water? (When I saw it on steam I started throwing money at the screen...)

Plain and simply put you cannot have balance between PvE and PvP. They are 2 totally different beasts. PvE players arent looking to make things more "equal" vs their enemies. The faster, better, more efficient even, way to kill them is what is wanted. PvP on the other hand need a more level playing ground with weapons, powers. So that fights should be determined by skill and as will happen, luck. Will there be a need for balance with weapons in both modes...of course. But the difference between the two should is why you cannot "balance" them both "equally".

Surely the ultimate answer would be to address the actual weapons (and armour) that PvP activities give, to make them more desirable for PvP events? If PvP users are using weapons that you can get within the grind of PvE, does that not suggest that the weapons and armoured offered for doing PvP are not as good? And if that is the case, surely by addressing such matters and making them better, equally as good as the weapons you can get for resulting end game PvE grind, that will in itself make for better game play for PvP activities and leave the balancing of PvE based weapons alone. The reason PvE weapons do the damage they do (or did), is because they are (or were) balanced for end game bosses who have a lot more health and need a lot more damage doing to them to do the job! So with respect, TL;DR - If the game is edging towards PvP - then make better, and more desirable PvP weapons and Armour!

To balance PvP, you unbalance PvE
I wasn't aware balance was a 0-sum game. So tell me, how does increasing pulse damage imbalance PvE? Go on, I'll wait. Bump!!!
-
This. Bump. Signed Nerf Luke Smith
-
Bump. You actually wrote this perfectly and doesn't seem out of anger. It is all factual and it's very disheartening that PvE and PvP cannot be balanced differently. PvE is ruined due to PvPers; it is just a fact.

1 ReplyI feel you. Tired of this routine. Tired of Bungie's indifference. Tired of this foolish routine of cracking the game every few months because Bungie has mismanaged their development of D2. This was a solution in search of a problem.
-
What did they nerf now? I didn't have time to play yet since i'm in europe
-
2 RepliesHaha and that's why I quit playing destiny. Until they seperate pvp nerfs and buffs from pve the game is broken and it doesn't matter if u release more half assed content not many people are gonna come back and play destiny until destiny 2 comes out. Destiny 2 better have more raids with an optional matchmaking system in place. Come on bungie at least 6 raids should be in destiny 2 from the start and don't kill the game further by micro transactions
-
This game hasn't been fun since TTK released. Sure the new raid was fun...the first dozen times, but everything else has just been a dry and mismanaged slog through a pit of mediocrity.
-
1 ReplyImagine, there are people who actually think these consistent issues from year one will be gone in Destiny 2.
-
The PvP/PvE struggle is real!
-
Bump for brilliance.
-
100% with you m8, my feelings exactly. Very nice post.
-
Agreed Destiny 2 will be a full on PVP major league game . It will take over from call of duty as the top number one competitive PVP game in the world This is the way of activision and bungie seem to agree
-
2 RepliesOh, and to add... I'm playing it out until the download. I'll try it. My patience is very thin at the moment though...
-
3 RepliesYep, precisely. Total let down from Bungie. Destiny is near death to me.
-
1 ReplyThey are f u King themselves in a big way. I'm not looking forward to this update now.
-
Pvp didn't ruin it bungie did!!! We don't want those -blam!-ing updates man bungie is loosing it

3 RepliesEdited by SwedishBass: 4/7/2016 8:05:49 AMI'm going to make sure I enjoy my Triple Tap, Casket Mag and Spray and Play 1KYS (a.k.a. PvE perfect roll) as much as possible before the update. Also, literally no word at all about shotguns in the stream. Nothing. None. ...and yes, nerfing PvE ammo capacity for PvP reasons just doesn't make sense. On any level. There's simply no justification for it. Shotguns are already bad, now you are telling me they'll actually have LESS ammo in PvE as well? Here's hoping they bring back the full, HoW-era shotgun damage in PvE. With the PvP ammo changes trickling down into PvE, I might just quit playing altogether.

5 RepliesCan't take the pve pointless cross over nerfs anymore. I'm sick. And done.
-
Amen, amen, amen....pvp bullshyt is KILLING THE GAME
-
1 ReplyAgreed. The way things have been, I wasn't about to purchase any more DLC. No more money from me. But after reading the release notes for the upcoming 4/12 update, I don't think I'm even going to log in for that. The mindless nerfing of ammo capacity and Sunsingers... I don't get it.

18 RepliesEdited by TheArtist: 4/7/2016 11:29:37 AMDisagree.....but only after time and further reflection. When I first heard the proposed changes my reaction was much like yours: Theyr'e all-in for PVP. PvE is getting screwed again. All they know how to do is nerf.... But then I calmed down, and watched the actual stream this morning....and walked away feeling much better about the changes. Although I FUNDAMENTALLY disagree with what Bungie wants to do with the weapon system and PVP, they ARE getting smarter about nerfing weapons and classes in ways that don't harm PVE. IOW, they are getting better at parsing out how PVP and PVE players use weapons and abiltiies differently....and specifically going after those ways that are problem for Crucible play, but don't really impact PVE. The only things that they are going to do that will really hurt PVE play is reducing special ammo reserves, and the reserve ammo for the raid MG. Almost everythinig else is either a net gain for PVE....or just doesn't really affect it. Auto rifles are basically being buffed. Bullet hose ARs really aren't a PVE weapon. Fusion rifles are getting a stability buff which will improve their range and reliability Scout rifles were basically untouched (MIDA isn't a PVE weapon). Hawkmoon is getting a range buff, and all hand cannons are getting buffs to ammo reserves. Snipers are only getting a nerf that affect their ability to be used as close-to-mid-range weapons. Which isn't how they're used in PVE. Warlocks are getting a nerf to flame shield...but firebolt grenades are being left alone. With the sandbox guys basically saying that they left them alone because the grenades and DoT were too essential to the core of what the subclass was about. (IOW, they weren't going to nerf the class in a way that would basically cripple it. Esepcially in PVE play) Raid weapons are getting and across the board buff to reload speed, and the raid AR is getting a stability buff. So......once you kind of calm down.....there is a LOT here for the PVE player to be pleased about. There were weapons changes made. But the vast majority that will affect how PVE players play, will actually make us more powerful....and the rest largely don't impact how PVE players will play.

2 RepliesDo you really enjoy running the same strikes with the same ai that much?
