Everyone comparing Division and Destiny

I get everyone is comparing it because they are supposed to be the big shooters for the console's. The thing I find strange about most people's comparisons is they arent comparing vanilla destiny to what division is now. The game just launched and it's being compared to destiny which has had 2 years now to correct glitches, errors, and add DLC. Personally compared to vanilla destiny division has better story. Gun play can't really be compared as division is very ground/cover based while destiny is of course sci-fi and has air dodging etc. I think Division has potential if the DLC goes well and adds more like destiny did. But I'm curious what others thoughts are.

    • Division also came out so much later after it was announced so the had more time to add stuff in. My issue with the Division isn't that it sucks but that Dark Zone is only fun for so long and then what?

    • The Division may have a better story but most of the complaints I've seen about The Division involve the RPG elements of the game. The Division IMO did not launch with enough content to opt not to have some form of dedicated PvP in its game. The PvE content in Destiny may have been lacking at launch but credit Bungie for having the foresight to include the Crucible in their game to try and offset those limitations. The Taken King left much of the year 1 DLC behind so essentially those players you speak of are comparing The Taken King DLC vs The Division. I'm not buying into the whole let the game before comparing because this game was supposed to have it all at launch unlike Destiny, at least according to the disgruntle Destiny players that were trying to use this game to bash Destiny. Unfortunately, The Division didn't live up to the hype and we're starting to see the fallout from it.

    • Pretty simple. They're comparing current Destiny with enhancements to Division without enhancements because they're either mentally retarded or they're setting up Division in their minds for failure.

      • I had just about zero interest in The Division until a couple friends traded in and did that $35 deal, so I decided to go for it. After a couple days I just wasn't figuring it out, wasn't enjoying it and just didn't feel the action. As there's been some patches and people getting braver the Darkzone is becoming more fun. At first I wasn't holding much hope on this game, but if they release solid DLC and can make the DZ a little more pvp action packed, this game could deliver a ton of great moments. The weapon, gear and crafting/mod elements are great. Once you hit 30 and find 2 more people you have fun with, this game will please you.

        • I just don't see how they are gonna make division more epic, I'm sure they'll add new areas (which are basically cut content just like destiny) but they can't really go any farther. Like what's the next boss gonna be "a really cool looking bullet sponge!!!"

            • That's because most people comparing the two games aren't interested in a fair comparison. They are either trying to defend Destiny/ trash The Division.... ...or Defend The Division/trash Destiny. The games are really very different games. The only thing they have in common is that they are both RPG shooters. But Destiny is an rpg-SHOOTER, where as The Division is an RPG-shooter. Where you fall on the two games really comes down to which half of that combination you prefer. Shooter gamers are going generally like Destiny more. RPG gamers are growing to like The Division more.

I would say it's comparable to Diablo 3. I just think The Division is Diablo 3 with guns.

The loot system is far more satisfying. Sure, it's grindy as hell, but at least you feel like you were fairly rewarded for your time invested. It also has optional matchmaking, in-game LFG, proximity chat and plenty of social areas. The developers' stance on matchmaking, and the horrible loot system were the two dealbreakers that made me quit Destiny. The only comparison between the two is that they both become much better when you're playing them with friends.

                • Haven't played enough division to really judge if I think it's good or not. First impression is that it's OK. But from what I can tell it feels like gears of War, cod and destiny sliced together.

The game just launched and it's being compared to destiny which has had 2 years now to correct glitches, errors, and add DLC.
Several reasons you may not fully be aware of: 1. Why would you compare a newly launched game to a game that no longer exists? Compare it to what you're currently competing with. 2. "But Destiny has had time to fix and adjust blah blah blah..." If Ubisoft sees Destiny as competition, then they've had time to adjust as well. The failures, successes, and adjustments of Destiny are public knowledge. Bungie isn't the only one learning from their experiences.

                    • The division gets boring fast. Zero pvp game modes other than free for all. You can't jump. You can't kneel. You can't go prone. Slow (tps cover based shooter. I get it) No enemy variety. Maybe 5-6 enemy character models including bosses. Very bland, very boring and on its best day it's only mediocre. I'd definitely wait for a price drop if anyone is interested in buying.

                      • What destiny and the division have in common are both are looter-shooters and have multiplayer options and endgame activities. Beyond that they are very different games. You can't use the same techniques in them. Destiny depends on more running/gunning/dodging. Try playing like that in the division and you won't last long. Some running and gunning can be accomplished but eventually you'll have to do some cover shooting and recover your health. I've played other cover shooters before so it didn't take too long to get the hang of it in the division. Many of my destiny friends had to learn the hard way that they can't get away with playing the division the same way they played destiny. Destiny and the division look different, feel different and the progression and acquisition of top tier gear is different. Many players who like destiny don't enjoy the division. The same is true the other way around. Perhaps what will be most important in comparison will be which company will be more successful in managing their always online game.

I think that people are comparing the wrong game to the division because many of Destiny's mechanics are not the same as the division and a game like Diablo 3 would be easily comparable to the division.

                      • And when Massive/Ubisoft adds the new content and raid next month it might surpass Destiny year 2 in my opinion. We will find out soon.

                        • They both have an unnecessary amount of game breaking bugs and patch exploits that help the player before patching the bugs.

                        • You are never going to get a fair comparison. Division fans are going to sway towards Division, Destiny fans are going to sway more towards Destiny and those in the middle don't give a shit so can't give a fair appraisal. At the en of the day, it's all opinion. It doesn't matter what anyone else says as long as you have fun with what you play.

                        • The comparison between Destiny and The Division is fair because both games exist as they are in the same market. It's the same with any games that share a genre. Truth is, there is only so large a pool of players that buy into loot and shoot games, and these players have only so much time to play either game. Players need to prioritize, and that means they need to have a favorite.

They smell any hint of distaste for their game from outsiders, and they attack like rabid squirrels. If you actually want a real discussion about games, you'll need to go elsewhere.
