Heavy ammo is simply a mechanism that ruins the game altogether; it turns the dynamics of the game too vigorously. From competitive or casual games, it turns more into CoD due to the time to kill - which is why most Destiny play it for the slower time to kill.
Heavy ammo is great in PvE, it provides rare ammo that deals masses of damage. However, in PvP, it provides too much ammo: with a heavy machine gun, it provides 2 clips worth. That's the equivalent to approximate 15 kills on average before running out, long enough for the next heavy ammo to spawn.
Once, my team were 2000 - 7000 and we're losing a lot. Heavy came up and we won: that's broken. The enemy didn't stand a chance! Simply reduce the heavy spawned or eradicate it - it ruins the PvP side of it.
In my opinion, if they don't nerf it - there should be an option at least. Supers will only charge on kills/assists and heavy will be eradicated. In addition, points are scored a lot easier:
- Headshot 110 points
- Kill 100 points
- Assist 50
That's simple - that way games are won not from getting kills after dying or from super kills - you get the same points regardless how you kill them.
This gamemode would be a permanent 3 v 3 playlist, so people who like heavy have a chance to still utilise it whereas players who prefer Destiny to be more competitive don't. Win, win!
Also, heavy isn't necessarily the primary problem - it's the amount of machine gun ammunition you are provided with. Math Alert! Machine guns provided 62 ammo overall (from one crate): it's a four shot to kill a guardian. 62 divided by 4 = 15.5, so that secures 15 kills on average (may get a few clean-ups kills along the way). The average kill distance is 15sec, so if you do 15sec X 15kills = 225 seconds, which is the time you'll have your heavy for until it runs out (this is on average). 225 divided by 60 = 3.75 minutes you have heavy ammo available to you. Heavy spawns every 3 minutes, so you have enough heavy to supply you for next heavy round, allowing you to secure the next heavy ammo crate.
For the sake of correctly securing two boxes to then allow you to secure the next box afterwards is a too big of a penalty. Yes, it should change dynamics for a while, but not for the rest of the game. Machine guns should provided 30 bullets instead, so that's it's 7 kills (still potentially higher than rockets). That means heavy ammo wouldn't be around for so long, or players can save their ammo to secure the next heavy in hope they don't die so that's it a high risk, high reward. Now it's just a mess.
It's mainly heavy machine guns that are the issue here - rockets don't provide enough ammo to turn the tides too significantly. However, missing one heavy ammo crate shouldn't allow a penalty as big as that. Machine guns just need a small tweak at the ammo provided (less, obviously).
Then again, private matches would solve all this...

I agree, they should nerf fusion rifles.

No, Bungie is ruining this game.
-
1 ReplyThis is coming from a player with 2 heavy machine guns equipped as of now. This must be a case of "the gun they use beat mine so we need to remove it"
-
Seems fine both teams usually get heavy. They cancel each other out and if they get both super them
-
Crucibabies ruin PvP.
-
For -blam!-s sake... GET RID OF EVERYTHING IN PVP. Give all these nerf babies. and removal babies nothing to bitch about. Make it a pillow fight! Oh wait they'll still bitch that red pillow is better then blue pillow. and Red needs nerfed.
-
I'm not even going read all that crying. Heavy stays!

1 ReplyCruicibabies at it again

Only if you get hit by the heavy
-
Note to OP, actually the cry baby community ruined the game. Here's your card.

5 RepliesOoohhhh poor baby couldn't get to the heavy and got killed, hahahaha. I love killing the other team with my super and taking their heavy is epic.

Bungie ruins the game

5 RepliesIt's honestly not that hard to flank/surround/super/overwhelm somone that has a heavy machine gun. Get over it.
-
4 RepliesHeavy is there for specifically being the game-changer. There is nothing wrong with Heavy at all. Sorry you died.
-
2 RepliesThat's the point of heavy amp it's part of the game so you have to learn how to play with it. It doesn't ruin the game at all

1 ReplyNo. Many of us enjoy it. If you don't like a feature that many others enjoy--one that has been in the game since inception--why not stick to inferno? Or another game? What really ruins the game are blanket statements from loud people, which inspire sweeping changes that alter our pleasant experience.

2 RepliesI think it spices up what would other wise be the same old boring gun fights. Both the heavy and the supers/abilities is what makes destiny what it is. And not just another generic fps like so many others

Edited by NeverSeparate: 3/3/2016 1:59:34 PMMost play destiny because of the slower ttk? I play destiny because I like the game play. I like supers. I like crazy jumps. Ttk being equal, either higher or lower, destiny wins. Bad argument. Also, heavy spawns in 2 places, so both teams have an equal shot at it. It is meant to be game changing. That's why it only drops every few minutes. No nerfs. Stop it.

I have played where I am the sole person standing at heavy and my team of Randy's scatter like cockroaches when "heavy ammo available" rings in. Sure enough I watch the skulls pop up all over as each one bites it....one by one then they rush back to get owned by heavy again. "Heavy ammo available" is basically " free kills available". It is a 50-50 chance of turning the tide even if both teams are equally matched! Heavy ammo is like allot of things in life....you get it or you don't....even if you do it does not guarantee a win. Skill will still be the great determining factor and always should be. Eh hem....why people always try to save supers for heavy rounds. A team that plays well together will always prevail regardless of heavy and anything else for that matter.

1 ReplyI agree. With heavy ammo there is no way for this game to be a balanced competitive game in pvp.

3 RepliesMachine guns and rocket only need 2 rockets with field and 20 bullets at most with any archetype in PvP
