Reading some of these replies has me worried.
I think Bungie is probably going to cop out and make it so that skilled players will earn the loot faster but that even shitty players will be able to earn the gear if they play enough.
That's bull shit to be honest. What's the point of having an end game pvp activity if everyone can earn the gear? There's no ranking system in destiny. Having the trials gear will be the only thing to make skilled players stand out. But if everyone eventually is running around with it, there's nothing to distinguish a top 1% player from a bottom 25% player.
I really really hope Bungie has the balls to be ok with walling off a chunk of their player base from the gear by making it skill based earning.
Sadly, the more I think about it, the more I remember that the vast majority of the destiny player base sucks some major ass at pvp so Bungie is likely to cater to all those scrubs.
Sigh. What happened to competition in games? I miss it.

It's a videogame... everyone is supposed to get 100% at the end. In real life is where you should work hard and smart to be the best!
-
COD used to piss me off with leader boards ranked by overall score. I was friends with the number one player in kill confirmed. He was number one because he never slept and didn't work. Don't get me wrong. He was a damn good player but not having to have a life made him number one.
-
Add some perspective. How much of the destiny player base is actually good at pvp? You can't make a significant part of paid dlc only available to only 10% (I say 10% because after 1.5 k/d you're of in the top 10%) of the total player base. How long do you think it would take for the player numbers to drop? It's a game reliant on players being online, if you start excluding 90% of the players it would collapse.

Trials is free I think
-
Trials, prison, strike(s), missions are not free. The only thing free is social space and upgrading
-
I dont think so, seems though that most of the things people pay for get given to the everyone else eventually anyway. I bought the season pass so it doesn't bother me I'll be playing it either way.
-
I get it from a business perspective. I hate it from a gaming perspective.
-
Well as long as you see the sense in it. The good players will still get the shiny stuff before anyone else. I don't necessarily agree with the idea that there would some things that a person who paid the same as me simply can't get. I used to play world of warcraft and it was very exclusive that way. It's just kinda crappy. More to the point, this game is designed around the MMO concept and in order for an MMO to work you need a lot of players playing it otherwise it dies out.

In a loot based game and a game where you are supposed to "become legend" it's kind of hard when the scrubs get gear handed to them through time investment. Let's say I go into he trials, do really well with my team and get that hunter helm. "Guardian, you have demonstrated your pvp prowess and now wear the mantle of a god.." Scrublordxx69 goes into the trials, losses for two weeks straight and still gets the helmet. "Guardian, even though you are clearly inept and barely understand what you are doing... You paid to play so here have the mantle of a god..." Kind of takes away from how special the gear is doesn't it?

Some info on trails of Osiris guys https://www.bungie.net/ru/Forum/Post/117349318/0/0/1 That gives you an idea how it will work. You will definitely need to win.
-
I dunno. I'm still skeptical that it'll be purely win based loot, even thougn I would love that. Guess we'll find out tomorrow

Destiny was built on the sole emphasis of the PvE. The PvP element seems to be last minute resort included in the game as a demand by Activision. You can see it for yourself. The lag in the Crucible is terrible due to unoptimized servers, the matchmaking is terrible, PVE weapons breaking the balance, lack of leaderboards and the maps are so poorly designed that they favor shotgun encounters due to the many tight corners and narrow corridors etc. If you bought Destiny for the PvP element, you made a big mistake. The game was marketed to be a social experience where you would team up with players, play Raids, kill bosses and gain loot. If you want competition in competitive multiplayer play Battlefield, Call of Duty etc.
-
I agree that Destiny pvp has a long way to go. But I love it and I hope that Bungie works towards pushing it in a more competitive direction. Gear tied to skill would at least give it more of a competitive feel
-
Problem is that if the rewards are for someone winning then it won't take long for ppl to think '-blam!- that' and stop playing, I get the competition bit and the need for it, but if there's a chance for us to play 100 games and not receive anything then what's the point? There has to be a carrot or the donkey won't move!
-
Makes sense, totally agree!!
-
I still have come into games and won, and gotten nothing or rares. This game has really screwed me over with the RNG. In ToO I can't really compete with all this great gear even though I've played since day 1 and am lagging behind my brother like I started a week ago. I'm no bad player either, I've gotten great K/Ds in games. I wish ToO wasn't like iron banner. Takes some of the skill out and replaces it with gear bonuses.
-
Maybe improve and get better? The carrot is still there, you just have to improve to get to it as opposed to just investing time
-
It'll be sweaty lobby after sweaty lobby as there'll be no fodder in there like there is in crucible, competition like I said is good, but nobody will bother if there are zero prizes for at least coming in 2nd and 3rd.

Edited by I’m Dunn-4, Exo PDF File: 4/27/2015 9:52:01 PMWelcome to this generation of gaming. Adapt or die.
Well, I don't really mean you should adapt, I just mean "Deal with it." ... Unless you already have and right now, you're just talking about this topic.
Edited by Striker93175: 4/27/2015 8:12:17 PMWelcome to the same exact argument raiders have had since vog. Welcome to the fake 32 iron banner argument. Only. Now in reverse. It tickles me that I'll be able to afk in pvp for uncapped ethereal upgrade material drops since nightfall has a "chance" then a week wait for reset.
-
That's kind of gross. And don't clump me in with the "fake" iron banner people. I did my raids even though I prefer to do pvp and all three of my characters hit 30 and then when TDB came out they all can hit 32. At the time, I respected that the way to hit 32 was to do the raids. That gear was exclusive to raid completions and I respected that. I just hope Bungie makes Trials of Osiris gear tied to skill. And instead of respecting raid completions, the community will respect that it is skill that will earn you the loot
-
Edited by Striker93175: 4/27/2015 8:20:27 PMNever going to happen though. If they did, they would have to do the same for pve. Imagine how mad people would be if say... The only way you got xxx or yyy was a double flawless raider on both 34 vog and crota. Snowflake thing and whatnot. Hell as is there making it so both raids are totally irrelevant. A new player will be able to get to 20… do strikes... Buy 34. Buy 365 guns. What's a relic shield? What's a death singer liturgy. Doesn't matter because I'm a 34.
-
I think there should be multiple ways to hit the level cap but I don't even really care about levels. It's more about having the gear represent accomplishments like doing well in pvp, or doing well in the prison of elders. But sadly, like you said Bungie won't do that. The truth is, most destiny players are just bad at the game. Both pve and pvp. We've all seen it and we all know it's true. Most people struggle in at least one of those aspects of the game. So Bungie will make the loot easy for anyone to obtain so that everyone can feel like a destiny bad ass even if they are the furthest thing from one
-
We lost the raid, yet they get 1 new event, that last for 4 days, and complain.
-
I am good with there being special rewards for good PvP trial players. I would salute you as I see you stroll by in the tower.
