Stockpiling Engrams/Vanguard Packages Won't Work, But This Will -
Level all 5 factions (including cryptarch) to the point just before levelling up. If you do this right you will have 15 different packages to open on HoW day, after finishing the level off with bounties etc.
5 on each character including cryptarch levels. Assuming you have three characters. It will take some work but you should be able to do it in the three weeks or so before HoW drops.
In summary, level New Monarchy, Dead Orbit, Future War Cult, Vanguard and Cryptarch to just before levelling on each character.
Obviously there is still a chance you'll get nothing decent but at least it might give you a small head start.
Edit 1: I forgot Crucible as a few have mentioned, thanks for the reminder.
Also, some have mentioned saving engrams as that will help level Cryptarch, though you won't get any new gear from the engrams.

1 ReplyOr you can just play normally until it comes out. I thought about getting all my factions close to leveling up but instead I'd rather stock up on Commendations and exchange them for rep once HoW comes out.

1 ReplyFor new guns and armour sure. But packages wont get you to lvl 33 or 34 though. You will need to upgrade your exotics or use etheral? light to upgrade anything to light lvl 33/34 or 365 attack. My plan is to upgrade one exotic armour piece straight away = 32 and a half My first etheral light will be spent on a piece or ledgendary armour to get me to 33. Solo crota on HM without stress Happy days

packages do matter, they each give you 250 rep for the faction they are for if you are wearing that factions marks when opening

5 RepliesDon't get why everyone is always in such a rush...only then complain there's nothing to do :) To each their own I suppose. I plan to take my time, enjoy the new "richness" and variety of the changes. It needs to last for a good 6 months, yes?

1 ReplyFaction packages will drop engrams which can be handed in at the cryptarch to level up and get a new package which has new gear. With the crota dlc my packages and engrams resulted in 2 x new armor and 2 x new weapons.

Or you can just keep upgrading your fractions and gets those commendations. That's what I'm doing now lol.

Well you could also just power level through them and get commendations to burn through....10 apiece for each level.

2 RepliesAlso, stockpiling commendations is a great way to get rep too. Idk how many people know this but commendations are getting cut in the HoW release and all existing ones become consumables that give you 250 rep each.

7 RepliesI've heard that saving cryptarch packages is good cause you can get a legendary engram and since the package is time stamped and not the engrams, you can get some extra gear. Can anyone confirm or tell me if this sounds right?
