Should Destiny stop supporting last-gen systems with updates and new content, starting with the 3rd DLC?

No. They should wait until Destiny 2 to phase out the last-gen systems.

Yes. The old systems are keeping it from its full potential.

Maybe, I haven't yet decided.

All consoles should be abandoned, all hail the PC master race.

If you check out the update today (3/26), you can see that vault expansion could only add a handful of slots due to memory limitations on last-gen systems. If Destiny wants to significantly improve, should it stop supporting old systems? I'm not asking if they should close the servers, just if they should stop releasing updates/making DLC for old hardware, so that they can aim to push the limits of the PS4/Xbox One rather than the increasingly obsolete PS3/Xbox 360. Tell me your thoughts!

  • If they dump the PS3 and 360 versions, they need to expedite a PC release. Maybe then we can get the game we all thought Destiny was going to be.

    • I believe that Bungie should have decided to go with current generation hardware instead of support for the last generation. I think if Bungie decides to fix this issue it will be making Destiny 2 current generation only.

      • I'm fine with them supporting the last gen consoles until Destiny 2 comes out. It's not like the current gen has been out long enough for developers to fully tap into their potential, and it gives time to people who can't drop $400 to upgrade yet.

        • Don't believe Bungie's excuse for their laziness. Last gen is not preventing vault space. There are many other games out on last gen that have more content, features, loot, and vault space than Destiny. Bungie is just piss poor at their job.

While it would be ideal to discontinue starting with DLC 3, it may create more issues in the long run. Excluding PSN exclusive stuffs, there is parity across all 4 consoles when it comes to NF, weekly heroic, daily story, Xur (and other vendors), and a few other things that I may be forgetting. To split console generations would then require a, for simplicity's sake, database split to have different content for previous gen vs next gen when DLC 3 drops. Not only would it have to change in game, but on b.net / companion app to ensure the correct info is in place for whichever console on which one is playing... There is also a subset of players that utilize the same character across console generations (whether by choice or not, doesn't matter). On paper, it could work. In practice, maybe not.

              • A game should not be taken out of a system if it can hold more. The vault should be more on next gen, and I don't see why they don't. I mean yeah us the last Gen would be mad. But we want content don't we? So I'm fine with having this much vault space. Even if it is gonna be less than next Gen. Mainly because next Gen can support more than last gen.

Destiny 2. Only because it will mean they've had PLENTY of time to enjoy the first game and to upgrade their systems before being dropped on that booty.

              • Bungie probably can't cut lose the PS3 or Xbox360 guys while Destiny is in decline. There aren't enough people playing Destiny these days to warrant cutting off a sizeable percentage of the overall customer base.

My initial instinct was no, because I consider that every last fen destiny owner paid their money and so deserve the game as much as we do. But then I realised that they paid for the game they reviewed. Yes Bungie have a responsibility to keep the servers up, but not necessarily to keep releasing additional content. If the game cannot be enhances because you have chosen not to upgrade your console that is not bungie's fault. Also, if memory constraints in old consoles effects even the vault, consider what it has meant for the size of the environments!!!

                    • I say phase them out. It'd be no different than when other games stop updating, like Mass Effect 3, NCAA Football 14, etc. For last gen users, it would just be like those games. No new content, but the servers stay up. It would unrestrain Bungie. As much as this game feels half-built, I don't blame them. For a last gen game, Destiny is light-years ahead of the competition. But in it's current state...imagine driving a brand new Ferrari that has the engine of a '94 Accord. That's what this game is--great design, but spoiled by limitations under the hood.

                    • So a game that has been in development since Halo ODST that was delayed for Reach and all fun shit. Then delayed even more for next gen., should "rule out the consoles" it was originally intended for....... But whatever.

                    • They can't massively build on Destiny 1 at this point (and even if they could, they wouldn't at this point). Better to phase out last gen in Destiny 2.
