The greatest thing you can do for the holidays is to go to the mall or wherever a "santa clause" is taking kids' Christmas wishes and tell them Santa isn't real. Santa Clause is a form of manipulation, a bastardized celebration of St. Nicholas, yet has little to nothing to do with the saint. By making kids realize they are putting their hopes in a "false god", if you will, they will focus on reality: nothing is free, everything costs money, which in this case, belongs to the parents. It puts the power back into the parents' hands, which is where it belongs.

I think I'll tell them stories about charities and philanthropists instead.

SANTA ISN'T REAL?!

I don't plan on telling my kids about Santa. I'm just gonna tell them from the start that it's me.
-
I wouldn't tell them at all, full stop.

My parents never told me about Santa when I was younger. All my gifts had cards on which something along the lines of "Merry Christmas! From Dad/Mum" was written.

All the euphoria in this thread. Honestly, kids grow out of Santa. Why would you confuse and hurt a three year old child? They'll find out when they get to kindergarten. Plus it's super cute. ^-^

4 RisposteTelling kids about Santa and letting them realize that he's fake is a great way to teach them to handle the same sort of process with the idea of god.

Or...let them have their fun and figure it out themselves when they grow up.

The same thing goes with God. Just like Santa Clause, he isn't real.

2 RisposteOr maybe just not tell them because it'll make them sad? You know I'm sure parents want their kids to be happy.
