And what I'm saying is you'd need to show engagement would go UP to make this a worthwhile change and I don't see that. It not going down is not a good enough reason for change IMO.
If I'm understanding correctly (now), I was wrong about tier 2-3 being obsolete, but why would you ever farm over tier 3 as a casual player with that system? Because assumedly you just get your roll on tier 1-2, get a T3 version to dump in the enhances everything and call it a day? What would be the difference in infusing a T3 into something vs a T5 if you're not getting extra perks? Just the effects, I guess?
Sure, T4-5 offers more perks, but if you've already got a fully enhanced 5/5, are you going to go back to farm for that same roll plus an extra couple perks? I'm guessing not, as it pertains to the playerbase as a whole.
I don't think the system we have is perfect. I think it needs changing. I just don't agree this is the right one, but sure, if Bungie did exactly this, I wouldn't be grabbing my pitchfork.
And what I'm saying is you'd need to show engagement would go UP to make this a worthwhile change and I don't see that. It not going down is not a good enough reason for change IMO.
If a system like this were in place I would be: Farming the raid more to earn weapons to eventually convert to T5 Farming comp before I start regularly getting T5 drops to try and get a good roll on the hand cannon I would have played trials much more last week because any God rolls I got wouldn't need to be earned a second time. I would consider that increased engagement in a range of more diverse activities.

Remove all the "I woulds" and give me provable facts that any majority or even a plurality of the community would be doing those things more and not just you, because as far as what I was saying you'd need to prove, your opinion or what you would be doing is completely irrelevant. Telling me you like an idea and then using what YOU would do as evidence of why it would be good doesn't make really any point. Of course YOU would be playing more under a system YOU like better than a current one. When I say that you'd need to show engagement would go up, I didn't mean specifically you lol. I feel like you know that though.

Your argument here is silly. You said it wouldn't drive up engagement and I pointed out three ways that it would drive up my engagement as an average player. Am I a perfect stand in for everyone? No, admittedly I'm not. But that doesn't negate the fact that I gave you three very tangible reasons why upgrading gear tier would give players, (I'm hardly unique here) incentive to engage more with the game.
-
No. You pointed out three ways it would drive up YOUR engagement. Are you seriously doing the every-man bit as if you are the sole representation of the average player? Seriously? lol
-
Why do you think your stance on what the average player actually wants is any more valid than Acrocanthus's? I happen to have a similar view to them as what would increase my engagement, so if we take the average of you, me and them, they're right. I'm not gonna claim to speak for the average player any more than them, and you shouldn't either. If you want to call out someone else's logical fallacy, don't be making exactly the same one yourself in your accusation....
-
I don't think that. I was literally just doing a mirror of his comment to show the absurdity. Like you seriously didn't get that? I literally say in the comment where I do that:
This is why anecdotal evidence is almost, if not entirely, useless when it comes to proving things. Just FYI
To pretend that my play pattern is completely unique is ridiculous. I also flat out said that I am not a perfect analogue and pointed out that based on likes more people agree than disagree here. I'm not a perfect representation, but people want change and more of them agree with me than you based on the like count of the original post.

Just to rebut your reasons, here's how the change would effect me. I would farm the raid less, since I'd just get red borders and leave as opposed to playing for rolls I want. I would play the same amount of comp and trials. Wow, sure looks like the change wouldn't do a whole lot for me, the average player, besides make me stop doing the raid once I have my 5 red boxes for the weapons I want. This is why anecdotal evidence is almost, if not entirely, useless when it comes to proving things. Just FYI.
