There is no point to anything until you have enough light level now because running the same activities at a higher level will automatically give you better rewards. There are a few areas where this isn't the case, but most of the game is like this. Trials, the portal, pretty much most of the game right now feels like you just need power level before you can do anything worth doing. Edit: I guess this is more a feeling that grinding a number is less fun than grinding drops.
