The ending of Steven Universe shouldn’t be portrayed as a happy one. Yes, the Corrupted Gems were healed, and yes the Diamonds are taking steps to fix their broken family.
But, it’s also established that they cease conquering other worlds. This might seem like a good thing at first, but Gems are parasites; they cannot exist without absorbing the life force of other living creatures, and resources for growing new Gems were already dwindling as of Era 2*.
Now, yes, Gems don’t age, so the Gems that are alive now will be alive for a very long time, but they can die if their gems are broken. By ceasing any further colonization efforts, Gem-kind will slowly but surely go extinct.
Ultimately, not furthering expansion of the Gem Empire is a better ending than letting it continue, but it should have been portrayed as a bittersweet ending, rather than a happy one. Making the universe a better place, but at a great cost.
Though to be fair, the dismantling of the Gem Empire was a topic addressed more in Future, and Unleash the Light more than it was in SU itself—which put its focus on the healing of the Corrupted Gems—but it was very clearly Steven’s intention from the beginning**, and not mentioning the problem doesn’t make it disappear. And even in Future & UtL, it was also still portrayed as an entirely good thing.
[i]
*”Resources are dwindling on Homeworld. They just can’t make Gems like they used to. That’s why they give Era 2 Peridots technological enhancements.”

**”I’ll get [the Diamonds] all together in place..
And once we’re all together face to face..
I’ll show them all the error of their ways..
And stop their spread of terror across space!”
Also, the ending would have just been better on a whole if White Diamond wasn’t redeemed. Yellow & Blue getting redeemed I’m fine with, but White should have been evil to the end.
Steven Universe is at its best when it’s sending the message that everyone deserves a chance at redemption, but not everyone can be redeemed. Sure, Lapis, Peridot, the Cluster, and Yellow & Blue changed sides, but Jasper was consumed with revenge, the Rubies were loyal to the the end, Topaz gave into fear, and Aquamarine was just small and mean.
White should have been the ultimate example of this. That some people are just evil.
But no, she turns good. Future makes it even worse, where Jasper gets a redemption arc, the Rubies & Topaz presumably get redeemed come Era 3, and the whole “not everyone can be redeemed message” gets given solely to Bluebird Azurite, who literally only appears in one episode. (though I love Bluebird herself)
Man, Future kinda ruins everything. I can forgive it because the movie was perfect, though! <3
Edit: Though I guess it’s not entirely fair to pin Jasper’s redemption on Future. It was implied at the end of SU.
I consider this a byproduct of the larger issue of White Diamond’s redemption, though. They had clearly intended to drop the “not everyone can be redeemed” bit by then, as can be seen with White.

I’m finishing up a rewatch of Steven Universe, if it’s not obvious. I’m not actually expecting much of a counterargument, I just wanted to rant about the not-super-great ending to one of my favorite shows.
I don’t think they have any of the sun or anything else that you I can do for them that they would be able with you and I can do that I have a very bad idea of how they can get them out there for you and I don’t know what you want.
There are too many misleading mobile game advertisements.
The ad will show a really cool zombie prison break game where you solve puzzles to get new gear, open new paths and recruit allies... but when you download the app, it's just a generic cashgrab city builder! What's up with that? Isn't that illegal?
