I think I may have an idea of why this game is so badly received by the long term fans of destiny...
Personally I believe it's all because of how we fell in love with destiny from day 1. The brand new experience of a new universe, game play and amazing scenery which caught us and kept us playing to even today. That's because you built up destiny 1, and kept building it. every expansion gave us numerous new things to do, new activities, new armour and weapons (no f***ing re-skins (seriously have you sacked your entire art department besides scenery?)), new characters with long term story impacts.
By the end of destiny 1 we had a huge game, HUGE.
... And then you threw it all away. Just like that. Gone. In it's place is a repeat of year 1 destiny... but this time the people who already loved your game expected something new, and you failed to deliver that. It's infuriating because yes, we understand you wanted to bring in more casual players and get them into the universe too but the community that worked so damn hard just to stand up and defend that first year of heavy, HEAVY criticism on destiny 1 aren't prepared to do it again for something that doesn't engage them anymore.
Destiny 2 was not aimed at the people who loved the franchise, and as a result we don't have a reason to replay activities. No reason to log in and do strikes. No faction we can grind consistently without having to wait a month between rallies (and tokens like an arcade instead of meaningful reputation (whoever came up with the token system should be shot)). No reason to jump into the crucible when the player pool is so small it's 3v3 now instead of 4v4 half the time. No reason to do the raids because we've done them a hundred times already. The game should have been an add on to the original instead of a standalone, like a new TTK expansion so we could keep all our old strikes, loot (which you now throw at us like it's a f***ing shower and it takes 10 minutes to get everything in the game) and locations so the game just got bigger.
It is too small now since we all came from the huge experience of Destiny 1 and we don't want to wait another 3 years to get there again. Maybe think about not making anymore standalone versions of the game? Maybe from here on out beside platform upgrades, just make the game bigger, even if you want to overhaul it all to make it new, just don't give us the world for years and then expect us to be happy when you give us an island.
That's my theory anyway, maybe people agree, maybe they don't. I'm going to keep playing anyway with my clan since I love the lore and it's the only reason i do log in now.
Just a few other notes:
- I love the new weapon system, kinetic energy, power. I just think some power weapons (shotguns, fusions and snipers) need there damage majorly increased. Pvp the weapon system is alot better than D1 for the skillful and tactical players, although the issue of time to kill being too long should still be addressed but we'll see in the sandbox update.
- New locations look amazing, just give more meaning to lost sectors, and let us rerun story missions as we want to, same with strikes.
-Crucible dedicated servers needs to be introduced. People are tired of connection issues in matches.
I hope this game gets bigger and bigger. I don't want a destiny 3, I want destiny 2 to keep expanding so we keep everything we have now for the rest of destiny's lifetime. No fresh starts where we just no longer have the ability to roam venus or the arcology. Just make the game bigger and better, don't take things away from us anymore.

I was with you all the way up to the new weapon system. Still don’t understand how anyone thinks it is better than D1s

13 RisposteI do not care for a majority of this community...all they do is whine about how broken something is even though it's simply due to them being bad at the game.

4 RisposteModificato da Juuha: 3/20/2018 1:59:50 PMI'm frustrated that I pre-paid $106 for what I thought was a Destiny sequel, but in actuality I paid $106 for an exercise in futility. Oh the new weapon system sucks...

6 RisposteDestiny had many things D2 doesn't have. Complex builds that create synergy to make a powerful character, hidden caves at the very edge of the maps that were difficult to find. Intriguing quests like No Time To Explain, a set of exotic swords that took us out of our comfort zones and into pvp to earn, little hidden ghosts and calcified fragments everywhere. D2 is not even close to a repeat of Y1 Destiny. It's like a pale shadow. There are no hidden things to find. There are no awesome quests(the mida quest was trash). I miss having to jump off a ledge and hover into a cave to search for ghosts. I miss killing that Taken Vex thing only to spend hours looking for the entrance to the lower portion. I miss having to kill that huge Taken Knight and looking at all that incredible world building. There is nothing like that in D2.

I agree completely but sadly, the contract negotiated for four separate games and that’s exactly what they’re going to do.

Destiny has always had a hell of a lot of potential. IMO it just takes the right people to actually explore that potential. Destiny went from having options to an extent to play how you wanted to play with a lot of incentive. To D2 to where now it feels like being controlled on how to play the way they want you to play with way too many limits, timers, major lack of incentive among other things. Personally I can't see how they even thought just the bata alone was good enough knowing they created D1. On top of it thought gamers would just be okay with this.

I've said it before and I'll gladly say it again, as many times as I need: I want Destiny to be good. I want it to be the best it can be. Both D1 and D2 have so much untapped potential still, and have one of the most interesting sci-fi settings out there, that not trying to make the most out of it all would be a crime. I'm genuinely hoping bungie can catch momentum again and move somewhere.

Well said, OP.

10 RisposteAnyone that expects a sequel to just be a major continuation of the former is just delusial and unable to cope with change. D2 is a reboot. New engine, additional platform (PC), and some critical character continuity. Period, end of story. D2 is it's own game. Love it or leave it. People whine about team shooting, but all I see here is team faux outrage is our new sport. This game is fine, it's false fans are the problem. I've made dozens of friends around the world and have someone to Fireteam with at any point in a 24hr cycle. Strikes, NFs, Raids....whatever. That's the real community of this game. No one at Bungie listens to your crying because they know who is and who is not playing the game. I meet new people to D2 everyday, help where and when I can. Paying forward the help I got from others. That's the real D2 community. We evolved from D1. Either you get in the fight or check out. Eyes up gaurdian!

8 Risposte“Theorising that one could have a clear vision of Destiny within his own lifetime, Luke Smith stepped into the Destiny accelerator and vanished... He woke to find himself trapped in the game, facing visions of Destiny that were not his own, and driven by an unknown force to change the game for the worse. His only guide on this journey is John Wisnewski, a PvP narcissist from his own time, who appears in the form of a hologram that only Luke can see and hear. And so Luke finds himself leaping from vision to vision, striving to put wrong what once went right, and hoping each time that his next leap will be the leap home…” “Oh boy…” – Luke Smith

4 RisposteI'll be the first to admit Bungie/Activision have messed up, but developer aside, the modern day gamer leaves.....something to be desired. I don't know at what point it became totally acceptable to blatantly demand immediate changes from a developer; and do it in such a way that it comes across as a child's temper tantrum.
We're frustrated because we care about this universe and it's community.
When someone complains about hating, say, the double primary system, they're totally thinking about themselves; not the community.

I think the same as you, besides not having dedicated servers is a delay, the pvp experience with servers per to per is disastrous and the games are not balanced, if they take another game and do not put dedicated servers directly I do not buy it.
-
1 RispondiTechnically...every weapon was a reskin in Destiny 1 because there was nothing to differentiate them other than stats. They might have had a nice new coat of paint, but it's almost identical. Not defending Destiny 2 on this, but Destiny 1 was no better. But what you said about this game essentially being year one again, I agree. It's the same issues, just with a different look.
-
3 RisposteI'm with you on every point, but with one small tweak: imo snipers, shotguns and fusion rifles should be placed in the Energy slot, not Power. Also, I don't know if they're addressing this, but the Guardians in PvE feel like they're made of glass. I played the Nightfall lastnight at around 320power and kept getting killed faster than the hobgoblins could say "omae wa".
-
2 RisposteThe problem is everyone expected some great halo scale awesomeness from the bungie name when they forget or don't care to realize bungie stopped being bungie well over 10 years ago. Now if everyone thought of bungo as a new upcoming developer there wouldnt be anywhere near this much backlash, and they probably wouldnt of even gotten a deal with acti.
because we care about this universe
Well, I did. It's less and less every day.

The destiny universe is dead. All the lies and the cash grab ruined the immersion beyond repair. They cannot fix this.
-
Modificato da Ironterror58: 3/20/2018 1:22:58 PMI agree. I was with Destiny 1 since Vanilla. Through the good and bad. I had some damn good times doing raids and strikes. I fully immersed myself in this universe that had so much potential. Destiny 1 ended on a great note. And Bungie through it ALL away for this cash grab which is uncompeling, uninteresting, just plain boring at times. I just don't have it in me to wait for Bungie to learn the same lessons again. Frankly, I have much better things to do nowadays than hope Bungie gets their shit together. If there is a D3 i will not buy it. Bungie and Activision do not deserve anymore money from my wallet.

1 RispondiTop notch post right here.

1 RispondiThat may have been the case, but now people just moan because they have nothing better to do.

BUNGIE think you are all just being entitled "jerks" Just keep throwing money at the screen and zzzzzzzip it.

2 RisposteThe new weapon layout is terrible. Period. Way less options, way less fun, half of d2 problem. 90% of the base would agree
