New class idea: Engineer

Okay so hear me out. Guardians' abilities rely on their light. What if there was a class that combines mostly tech and a little bit of light together. What I mean is a kind of engineering class that works with machines. Though these ideas would need to be tuned for balance I was thinking that this class could have unique grenades like a stick-able wall turret that would be active and help lock down areas or a grenade that you throw straight up and it turns into a small combat drone that fights near you. The last grenade idea is a green smoke grenade that can disorient enemies but marks the area for a strafing run by your ship with its guns and missiles. (though because of underground fighting this might change to a cluster bomb) For a jump, there would be jump jets near the feet that would have different functions based on the upgrade. These would also double as the class armor. For a super, you would be able to pull out a targeting laser and target the ground or large target for a bombing run also by your ship. (another idea suggested by people was a rocket launcher that when supper was not active be on your back, and when supper is activated the rocket launcher would come up and over your right-hand shoulder, lock into place and be able to fire rockets though while this is active no other weapons can be used, and the UI would change for targeting.) Upgrade for the super would change ordinance type and attack styles, including smaller missile barrages but in multiple targets areas. ( the rocket launcher idea would be similar with one granting napalm like damage, and other granting smaller missiles but they lock onto multiple targets) The melee for this class would either be a knife or a grappling hook that could help cross spaces, get to higher ground, or pull enemies closer to you, or you closer to them depending on their size. For class ability, they would upgrade their fireteam's weapons for a certain period of time. One path would be to increase the reload speed of the team's guns. Another path would be to increase the teams precision damage. Another class ability idea suggested by people was a turret that would either have high ROF low damage, or slow ROF high damage. Thoughts? These ideas are still a work in progress I am open for changes, criticism, and ideas. please DM me or comment your ideas so I can look at them, I am in need of other subclasses cause this one is most likely going to be solar Lets try to make this popular so Bungie can see this and at least consider it, and if anyone has contacts with youtubers let them know about this idea so it becomes even more popular

    • This all sounds cool, BUT, part of what makes Destiny Destiny is simplicity and adding more classes, especially with how unique and distinct the new subclasses feel, would just complicate things (I think). That said, I do think, if done simply, and they wanted to expand the subclasses, they would have to introduce a new class for three new subclasses to be housed in.

        I do have a few things I would change. First off i would make the class ability to drop a turret, one could be a powerful slow firing one the other could be a faster firing low damage one. I liked your grenade and super idea however I don't think it would work because you're underground a lot in destiny so I would make a cluster bomb grenade where instead of throwing a grenade you just throw cluster bombs like what you get from rocket launchers the super you could set up a explosive (like at countdown) except you can explode it any time you want. Overall I like your idea and I think it's the best class idea I heard yet. I would like to hear more about this idea.

          • That just wouldn't fit within the Destiny universe. It sounds great in a TF2-like game, but not here. Destiny has three classes. It's basically the holy number within Destiny. Some parts of Destiny follow the rule of multiples of 3. Strikes have 3 players. Raids have 6 players. Trials had 3 players. Trials had 9 wins. Our guardians each have 3 subclasses, and 3 elements. I think it would be really weird to introduce a whole new class. All of Destiny's classes basically cover every playstyle. Plus, you have to keep in mind that you have to make different subclasses for a new class.

            • I like it, the idea of a new class is always fun to consider. I like the support roll and feel the game could certainly benefit from it.

                • Idea 2: Super: Summons a grenade launcher arm. Grenade are 1 shot and have a AOE of The Arc Strider smash. Shorty after each grenade is launched (maybe 1 sec), 5 little bombs explode. These would deal damage, but they wouldn't 1-shot unless all 5 hit the target.

                  • Here's an idea: Digital Extremes and Bungie combine and make a mix between warframe and destiny.

Now that that's out of the way, I like the idea! How about a turret grenade you can place that shoots tracking darts so you can see enemies through walls for a brief period? Granted it would only be useful in pvp but still.

                          So basically the commando class from borderlands is what you want. Also seems odd that some guardians will only be given " a little light" it doesn't work like that your either a guardian with light or your not a guardian with no light.

                            The Engineer I am going to just focus on the suppers.. Gernades and melee's can be what ever Solar - an explosive ring with the engineer at the centre. Think human bomb (except you don't die) Arc - the storm caller's supper makes the most sense here. So, since we can't do that ... The only thing I can think of is actually a focuses laser beam just like cold hart's. Void. A shield wall. Tougher than the titan's bubble but it's a single wall, not a dome. The other super would be build a bridge. Instead of jumping a gap, you could create a void bride to run over the gap. That would allow you to cheese so many things, but technically that's what engineer's do, build bridges. I really like my solar idea. You could have descant ions where there's a cluster bomb effect and another where you leave a ring of fire.
