It should be illegal to be transgender under the age of 24
People's brains aren't fully developed until the mid-twenties. Letting your 8 year old decide to get transgender surgery and destroy their body is extremely irresponsible. It is the parents job to raise and teach a child, not listen to a childs every want to be one of those cool new trans they heard about on buzzfeed.

3 RisposteI have watched this one documentary about trans kids. Its a fine line between wanting to be like the opposite sex or liking the same stuff as the opposite sex. A solution is to test that, kids don't know much about the sexes so letting them partake in stuff meant for the opposite sex. The show also did about stories where transgendered people regretting their change.

2 RisposteI think 18 is reasonable, maybe 21. But certainly, nothing shy of puberty. Until your hormones awaken, you don't really know for sure what you are. A "transgender" 8-year-old is probably not transgender. He/she's just poorly parented.

2 RisposteYou can't get the surgery. You can go on hormone blocks before puberty, get the oppisite sexes hormones at around 15-16 (I've heard), and must be 18 for the surgery. In the story you are siting, I believe the boy was and almost one hundred percent still on hormone blockers. Also, the scouts now allow Trans boys.

I see this as more of a parenting issue. Parents shouldn't facilitate a confused child's mindset and allow them free reign to do whatever the hell they think they want. Its nonsense.

can't disagree with this. i am convinced that a small fraction of the transgender population in north america actually feels like they are trapped in the wrong body and really just want the attention or want to be unique. i think that you should need to mature and be more secure with yourself before it being legal to make permanent physical changes to your body.
