Dude, he was OP the second 343 Guilty Guilty Spark told Chief he had a Class 2 Combat Skin and should get at least a Class 12 to combat the Flood.

  • It was a cheap and gimmicky way to get rid of the Didact. Sure the boss fight in Halo 3 was easy (Halo 2 boss wasn't easy, it took a while to kill him). But they were better than QTE's

  • And it really bothers me how people try to make the Didact QTE something it isn't. It's not a boss fight, it's just an interactive cut scene to provide immersion. The original storyboard for the defeat of the Didact was just a traditional cutscene. While Halo 2 may have taken awhile, it was utterly simple and dull. Just because he's a bullet sponge doesn't make it better. Lastly, an actual boss fight against the Didact would have been a slap in the face to canon.

  • It didn't need to be a boss fight, but I think a cutscene would have worked, making it a qte made it feel like it could have been more. I understand it really couldn't have because of canon, but that's how QTE's make thinks feel. If they'd have made it a cutscene it would have worked a little better.

  • And I disagree. The point of 343i using QTE's rather than cutscenes was to empower the player as the Chief. You can't do acrobatic feats like he does in the book, or feel that personal struggle. And that personal struggle was something they wanted to emphasize as the Didact and Chief are personal nemesis' to each other.

I just felt like I was mashing buttons

  • Now that you understand what 343i was trying to accomplish, perhaps it'd be constructive to be offering how to accomplish what 343i wanted to do for you. What could 343i do in the future to convey the intimacy of character conflict and the Chief's acrobatic skill to you?

  • I honestly don't know, I never really wanted him to be like that, I liked him as the more or less silent character with not much emotion. However, since it's the road we're defiantly going this way, I may as well think about. Acrobatic wise:Give Chief more animations. Playing as him, or FPS games in general, it feels clunky. His arms stay in the same position constantly, if he's suppose to be acrobatic and fast, he shouldn't be like that, so more animation intro gameplay rather than the stiff feeling characters we're used to in fps games. Duel wielding would in a way help this. Possibly take inspiration from titanfall and have slight wall jumping, just not to their extreme, I don't know, nothing would really work, it would either be copied from another game and be complained about, or just be hard to implement. As for his emotion:I think they did ok at that honestly, he seemed like he had emotion in Halo 4, just put less button mashing and i'll be fine.
