• 27 by latest, also d3 will also never happen since its pointless for Sony to hire new management and devs for a dieing ip because that is what would need to be done.( carnt believe bungie thought it would be a good idea aswel to nerf the guardian game class item ,like wtf was the point of playing 🤣 🤣) Only choice Sony will have soon is to either liquidate bungie /sell them / or sit on the ip leave it on the backburner for years before trying again.

  • Maybe. BG management is definitely trying to kill the game. Destiny will only live if Sony swes the IP as Valuable.

  • No, they will complete the takeover and replace their board Resulting in layoffs and restructuring Plus shutting down the Halo developer would be a really bad PR move from Sony

    • No, but potentially in 2027 yes. Bungie are openly hard at work on future marathon seasons, likely to fill the next 12 months. The destiny June name change, & them dropping all raid & dungeon tiered loot in 1 go, something bungie never do, alongside the final retention bonuses being paid after June & mass staff exodus expected, suggests Sony have instructed bungie to leave both games in a finished state were they're functional & can still be sold & only require basic maintenance. This is smart, given they won't know what staff theyll have once people are paid big money & many decide to go, Sony can't stop them, so they've likely said how to leave both games before they go. Sony will likely make a plan, or simply let both games die over time. Player numbers & Seattle costs will absolutely see the studio make a loss over the next 12 months & then likely theyll likely be closed. Marathon is dropping 2k a week from its high weekly peaks (now just 25k) & raid tiered loot won't stop destiny numbers from crashing given there's very likely no more dlcs this year.

OP: To answer your question - possibly?! Sony are as bad as BHQ when it comes to ‘Radio Silence’…🧐 Golden Rule: keep your paying customers happy! Neither BHQ or Sony are doing this. 😡 My 2d worth: 1. Marathon is a good game for the niche group of hardcore Extraction Shooters who love it, apparently; but the numbers are dropping fast… 2. Statements from BHQ suggest they will double-down at every turn despite Marathon’s shrinking population…more hubris - again! 3. When the final tranche* of vested interests are paid out - is it around June?!…then a flight might ensue?! 4. Sony HQ - they must be fuming about that $3.6 billion 🍋 Moving on… 5. A subscription model for D2 might appear?! 6. As Destiny’s loyal and long-suffering player numbers plummet, the apathy will take root. Radio Silence…HUBRIS…GREED…lack of content - all the old favourites, will eventually seal Destiny’s fate. This old tortoise is hanging on by a few silken strands… That is all. Ease Springs! 🙄 *autobot correction

        • To be honest, the new people running Bungie have been bad at this for awhile. The last time Destiny was peak was when TWQ launched. I think Bungie getting shut down and PlayStation giving the remaining talent & Tiger engine to a studio that actually has passion for the IP & have a desire to produce Destiny would be the best thing that could happen to this franchise moving forward. But, they don’t have to shut down Bungie. Keeping the name on the building and replacing the people at the studio with people that have passion for the IP & desire to produce Destiny would be the same thing. The problem isn’t Bungie. Tge problem isn’t the IP or interest in the IP from fans. The problem is all the talent at Bungie has been let go, and the current people running Bungie are completely out of touch & have an agenda that seems to be at odds with what Destiny fans want.

          • I don’t think Bungie will get shut down, but I think that there’s a good chance that Sony takes direct control. The Bungie name goes a long way with casuals and that is 90% of what Sony paid for. See likely another wave of leadership drops replaced by Sony admins. This alongside a potential shuttering of Bungie’s campus -> potential move to a lower cost area and focus more on remote work. My expectation: - Marathon and D2 will go into maintenance mode late this year. - Ungoing updates for both games will largely be cosmetic driven with maybe some smaller gameplay tweaks and live events. - This will continue for about a year alongside some severe restructuring. After that (more guesswork than predictions) - Destiny 2 will re-launch as just Destiny -> gameplay being more along the lines of Final Shape. My guess would be around September 2027 at the earliest. This would be a middle ground to a full D3. - Marathon continues and finds its extraction niche with its first big annual expansion alongside overhauls to key systems + some additional modes that allow it to live outside the pure extraction shooter space. (Will never be incredibly mainstream, but will have a smaller dedicated audience that monetizes ongoing development)

I think Bungie will be absorbed into Sony at some point. I don't know what they were thinking with Marathon. I would have stuck with Destiny and tried to make improvements and repair the damage they made with their fans.

            • I don’t think Bungie will be shutdown but I do think they’ll be brought closer to Sony. Bungie will be downsized (partly due to staff leaving in June) with possible relocation to smaller/less costly offices or an existing Sony location with capacity.

            • If people keep buying enough -blam!- from eververse, then no. Sony will expect Bungie's operating margin to exceed a certain value. If they stay above that value, all good, otherwise more layoffs are likely at best. I don't know what that value is or what it takes to meet it. Just for some context, is not sufficient to only be not losing money. If you're not making a significant profit, the cost of doing business isn't worth the risk.

            • Whenever I see a comment like this I have to ask, what is your evidence? Please tell me, what is Bungie's daily operating costs? How much do they get from profit sharing with Cross Play? What percentage of money do they get from Silver sales? What is the markup on apparel at the Bungie store? How much profit do they get everytime they sell a soundtrack? If you respond I assume you will mention massive layoffs. Which would be fair evidence, but not tell the whole story. When the team is a Computer Science major, his cousin, that person's wife, and a friend from high school, 3 of those jobs are getting removed when Sony buys your company. Never forget this quote. "Sales from The taken ornament for the Whisper of the Worm alone paid for the entire Zero Hour mission."

              • No if and when they do they'll announce it ahead of time likey after putting both games on life support and closing in game stores to avoid legal trouble. As well as ensuring any content payed for is released and any deemed useful devs moved to other studios.
