All of this, but I'm especially feeling this particular point right now: Forced Specialization & The Death of Balanced Builds. Bungie talks a lot about "trade offs" in this new expansion, but is that really something the players wanted? It doesn't feel great to use my Super once per run because I've invested in Weapons, it doesn't feel great to have a super long cooldown on my Class ability because I've invested in Melee; I guess I could only level my stats up to 100 and make a more balanced build, but that doesn't seem to be what the system or this expansion was designed around. Using abilities is fun; I love Destiny 2's hero moments, they're one of the things that drew me into the game, but now it feels like we're being asked to leave half or more of our kit in the closet. I like the idea of focused builds, but the trade off is pretty immense. Do I leave power on the table, or do I put up with excruciatingly long cooldowns for my off-spec abilities? Having one 200 point stat and everything else sitting at 30-60, it doesn't feel great. Maybe players who get Tier 5 gear will have more balanced loadouts, but I'm not sure I'll even get that far.

  • Still doesn't help. Tier 5 armor tops out around 90 points. So at best that's 100 points (with mods) across 5 pieces of armor. How many different stats do we have to invest in with 500 points to allocate, nevermind the RNG hell of getting prime optimization so points aren't wasted? At best we get a very, very marginal improvement if we spread out stats out equally across all of our stats... but odds are it's basically the same as before if not objectively weaker.

  • I completely agree. Man those Destiny 2 hero moments feel awesome but it seems now they are few and far between or at least until you spend all that time grinding for gear that will never feel as good as your earned balanced build. It just enrages me every time I see Bungie calling them "interesting trade-offs". I think we all know when you are using the word interesting its more like "look we know this is not as awesome as it was before but please do something with it or we will nerf your current build into the ground and force you to nerf yourself" Its not interesting its annoying and extremely frustrating.

  • It feels like the difficulty level is a contributing factor to those fewer and farther between hero moments, too; dying instantly, or almost instantly, doesn't feel heroic. Sometimes plays take time to set up, but we're so fragile this expansion that there isn't that breathing room, we don't get a grace period. Or I don't. I'm a pretty middling player, being -15 light levels puts me closer to a bad player. It's a trade off, I have higher level gear so I'm being put into harder content that makes me feel like I have lower level gear. It doesn't feel heroic to get two-shotted by a sniper Shank. I enjoyed the campaign, I enjoyed the early level grind, but now the reality is starting to set in. Harder and harder content, narrow builds, railroaded gearing, soft sunset weapons and armors, RNG on top of RNG, the wholesale end to crafted and enhanceable gear, it's kind of rough, like being thrown in the deep even when I just want to wade. I'd be having more fun if Bungie wasn't making so many choices for us.

  • I really like how you put that "I'd be having more fun if Bungie wasn't making so many choices for us." That's a great way to explain how it feels.

  • Destiny 2 is a toy box, and they're telling us which toys to play with, that's sort of how the Featured Gear feels right now.
