It's their money, plus it undercuts the paid services. Of course it makes no sense, but I can see the dilemma.

It makes perfect sense. Unlocking Stasis on your other subclasses was absolute -blam!-. They know that. We know that. But instead of throwing us a bone or not making unlocking a subclass a time-gated, obnoxious thing, they will just rake over the idiots who will pay for this and laugh at the rest of us bored out of our minds playing an average campaign 3 times. Win/win for them.

That was probably going to be the biggest seller for paid services, I would imagine. I see their ads on my Google news feed all the time, someone's using them. Why not make it free? It's a live service game, they need us in there.
