Simple destiny lost a lot of their player base they needed to do something to draw everyone back for the expansion. If they kept caydes death secret then a lot of people would not buy the expansion because it didn't interest them. Because of this people are now going to buy the game to see what led up to caydes death as well as getting revenge for cayde. They did good on the trailer it showed just enough to have us hungering for more but not enough that we know the entire game. It gave us a lot of unanswered questions that we have to wait for. It was honestly an amazing market ploy.

I disagree . By doing it now the buzz will die off by the time the game is out. Most people don’t pre-order. If instead when this dropped in September and everyone was like “WTF I got Forsaken last night and Cayde got killed!! The story is fing insane. You have to go get this now!”The hype would be at it peak and they would get more impulse/peer pressure sales that way.

What’s the point of buying it? I already know the biggest spoiler that’s going to happen. I 100% disagree that this was a good marketing ploy. I am less likely to buy it now. I really wish bungie would stop giving away spoilers, just to try and get people back into the game. Here’s a better marketing ploy, don’t make a shitty game, and you won’t need to give away huge spoilers 3 months early to try and lure people back in. We all know the story in most destiny expansions are garbage anyway. Cayde dying is probably 25% of the entire story anyway. I just want some mystery with these games. And I would also be willing to bet that cayde isn’t dead for good, which makes it even worse that this was spoiled already. No disrespect, but I absolutely disagree with you.
